1 St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club Volume Number 6 February 2012 CAP PROGRAM / LRB-3295 The CAP/STEP initiative, so vital to the future of Wisconsin s snowmobile program, has been officially introduced to members of the Legislature. Senator Luther Olsen is the sponsor. Call your legislators immediately and ask them to co-sponsor LRB-3295, the CAP/STEP bill. The toll-free number for the Legislative Hotline is Operators will direct you to the offices of your State Senator and State Representative based upon your home address. LRB-3295 Summary Introduced by Senator Luther Olsen, LRB-3295 makes registration of a snowmobile a one-time event rather than a requirement every two years. Annual trail passes would need to be purchased and displayed. LRB-3295 also sets the cost of an annual trail pass at $35.00, and essentially provides a credit of $20.00 to snowmobile club and AWSC members who have, on average paid that same amount in annual dues. The cost of an annual trail pass for these AWSC and club members would be $ This legislation is designed to generate revenue for the Snowmobile Program while providing an incentive for sled owners to become active members of local clubs. Call your legislators at Information for this article was obtained from the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Club s website. THANK YOU! We would like to thank everyone that helped out this year with the Snowmobile Safety Class. 2 President s Report On Tuesday, January 10, 2012 was our first general meeting for the New Year. It was held at the Sportsman s Chalet and was attended by 47 members old and new. Gary & Laurel and their staff did an excellent job of serving our members in a reasonable amount of time, and after dinner a short business meeting was held. Kay Schultz passed around a sign- up sheet for our next meeting at the Clearview Supper Club on Thursday, February 16, Please remember to call her with your choices if you haven t done so already. Also, remember that the date of the meeting is Thursday not Tuesday as normal due to Tuesday being Valentine s Day. Remember to get your Sweetie a card, flowers and a gift if you wish to remain in good standing at home, otherwise take your chances. We are still looking for help for the 15th Annual Groomer Show, February 1 & 2, 2012, 9 am to 3 pm both days. Contact Chairman Steve Soltwedel at (715) if you can help out. Baked goods are also needed both days. Our next event is the Radar Run & Ice Drags on February 3, 4 & 5, 2012, 9 am to 3 pm all three days, contact Chairman Paul Bohnen at (715) to reserve your time slot. These two events along with the Hall of Fame Round-Up in May are our biggest fund raisers of the year; please make an effort to help out at these two events. Gary Shambo is also asking for Trail Assistance people to help out with the Radar Run and Ice Drags. Call Gary if you can help out at (715) The Nominating Committee was selected and Roger Klein was appointed Chairman. Should you have any candidates you feel should serve on the Board please contact Roger at (715) so they can be presented at the next meeting. Remember this is your club, appoint the people you think will serve you best. Several Directorships are open, as well as, President, President-Elect, Treasurer and Secretary which are elected every year. Other than the above I can t think of anything else to mention except that the latest snow storm was greatly appreciated and with a month into the season we can only hope for more to finish out the 2012 season in a great Northwood s tradition. Let it snow, let it snow Rich Polaski The Membership Reports for 12/19/2011, 1/4/2012, and 1/9/2012 follow. We are at 439 memberships so far! The club membership database is kept in Microsoft Excel; mailings are done in Microsoft Word. Access to is also required. Membership updates and mailing information are given to the newsletter editor during publication months. 3 From the Secretary's desk It s election time again. There is information in this newsletter about the election which happens at the March Membership Meeting. If you can not attend, you can vote by absentee ballot by requesting one in writing (regular mail or ) from me (PO Box 192; St. Germain, WI or geby.four@gmail.com) before 4 pm on Tuesday, March 6, Recently, I had the pleasure of riding with one of our groomer drivers and I learned so much. Did you know these guys have regular 9-5 jobs and then in prime snow conditions are out grooming 6-7 hours a night, 4-5 nights a week and then are asked to come in on their own time once a week and do maintenance on our equipment to keep in in top notch condition? They give up time with their families not for the money (but every little bit counts during these economic times), but because they LOVE grooming and the sport of snowmobiling! Not just anyone can groom. It takes a real eye for the lay of the land and the knowledge of what your equipment is capable of doing. I was able to see a rutted up trail turned into a smooth A+ snowmobile trail, and the top of a hill that was bare was now painted with fresh snow. Thank you to our Trail Boss and groomer drivers for doing a great job on our trails! See you on the trails! Pam Please ride with care Election Information Officers are elected to a one-year term. Officer positions are President, President Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary. A President may serve for not more than two consecutive terms. There are two Director positions open each year. Directors are elected to fulfill a three-year term. The slate of candidates will be presented by the Nominating Committee at the February Membership meeting. Nominations from the floor will also be accepted at that time. A sample ballot and a statement from the candidates will be printed in the March newsletter. The election will take place at the membership meeting on March 13, The Tellers Committee will be provided with a membership list, and members attending the meeting will be asked to register with them and receive a ballot upon arrival. Voting will take place during the meeting, which follows the dinner, when the president calls for the ballots. The ballots are tabulated and the winners are announced before the end of the meeting. The new officers and directors take office and assume their duties at the April Board Meeting. Anyone wishing to vote by absentee ballot must request a ballot from the secretary, in writing ( will do), up to 7 days prior to the election. Absentee ballots must be returned in the envelope provided, sealed and mailed. No requests for absentee ballots will be accepted. Trail Boss Report A much better report for this month. Even though it is late, we finally have some snow to work with. We have been able to groom most evenings with the recent snow. The guys have been doing a great job with the limited amount of snow the season started with. The new Tucker is performing great and all equipment is running good. I think it is a good time to recognize the men that provide grooming services for our club. I do believe they receive a lot more criticism than praise which I believe is very unfair. The guys are professional and devoted and represent the club in the most positive way possible. Please remember we have the most beds and pit-stops hence the most ridden trails in the area. We are the main corridor going North/South and East/West. Thanks for all of your hard work guys! This year staff includes: SAYNER RUN-Adam Ruenger, Crew Chief, Mike Osbourne, and Tim Gebhardt; BUFFALO LAKE RUN- Mike Zainer, Crew Chief, Steve Hausner and Frank Lawrence; EAGLE RIVER RUN-John Vojta, Crew Chief, Matt Verseman, and Shaun Savel; TOWN RUN-Tom Marks, Crew Chief, Jay Pritzel and Mike McCormick; DAM LAKE RUN-Jim Wendt, Crew Chief, Todd Wiese, and Gary Jacobi; and our substitute driver is Chad Bacon. If you have a chance to thank one of our drivers it would be greatly appreciated. They really deserve it! Looking forward to more snow and the chance to put more hours on the groomers. All we need is SNOW! Happy Trails Jim Maintenance Monday s Groomer Drivers show up every Monday during Grooming Season and keep our equipment in tip-top shape. Thank you fella s!
