June finally got us to the first day of summer! The weather has been up and down and lots of rain. The pelicans are back and what a sight they offer from the Swan Room, in formation like dive bombers. With the rains and heavy runoff flocks of birds are feeding off the periphery of the brown plumbs from the Manitowoc and the Little Manitowoc rivers. The Swan room is great for watching the Lake fair or foul weather. Sails are back on the Lake! Steak Night in June was hosted by the Commodore and Army Vets. We had a good turnout! July s steak night will be hosted by the Klein s, but after that we ll need sponsors?? Someone step up? Ladies? Sailing? On a very good note was the return of indestructible Ron and unfaltering Dolly Stokes to the Club! God bless them both; keep them in your prayers! We are trying to get Ron on an Honor flight to Washington D.C. He is a WWII veteran and served in Europe at the end of the war and the Occupation. He has some great stories, you know Ron. Thank you Vice Commodore Paula Feest for filling in admirably while I was off enjoying Blake Shelton at Country USA in Oshkosh, great show in-between the scattered showers. But, a great show and if you like country music, you love Blake Shelton! Great birthday gift! Now speaking of meetings, listen folks this is YOUR club, get involved. We need help, we need new blood. We have had members doing jobs for a long time and it s time some of you old members and new, step up! The sailing committee will soon get out the details of an event that will take place in this issue Committee News July and August Calendars Upcoming Events August. Ludington will be launching a flotilla of 40 to 50 sail and powerboats to Manitowoc for a few days with the intent of next year Manitowoc returning the favor. We are looking to host them at the club with a brat fry and our hospitality. Final note, as a member when you invite guests into our Club you the member are responsible for their conduct. Don t put your membership in jeopardy by the acts of a guest. 4 th on the Shore, celebrate your freedom, buy a Vet a beer! Enjoy your Club! Ed

If the system detects motion within the club the police will be notified. Social Committee Paula Feest, Chairman I want to thank everyone for celebrating your July 4th at the club. What a great turnout. We had beautiful weather and great entertainment with the Gentlemen and the Dave Steffen Band. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day. I want to thank all the volunteers that signed up to help for this event. People volunteer for a wide variety of reasons, especially wanting to help others. Time is a precious commodity among all of us, and I truly appreciate your time. This event would have not been possible without the d e d i c a t i o n o f hardworking individuals like you. On behalf of everyone at the Yacht Club, thank you so much for your contributions! August 2 nd the Lundington Yacht Club will be sailing to the h a r b o r s o f Manitowoc. This is the first of a cross lake event Lundington/ M a n i t o w o c / B a d g e r Flotilla. The Manitowoc Yacht Club will welcome our guests by hosting a cook out on Aug 3 rd. This is a great time to open up our club and really showcase who we are and what we do. We hope to have a great turnout. This is open to members and guests. I would like to see a good turnout from our own. There are postings on the board about the event, along with a volunteer sign up sheet for workers. Summer time is a great time to relax with friends and family. Bring your family and friends down to the club to share our beautiful view of the lake or maybe simply bring them down to have dinner together on a Friday night. The patio is open and the weather has been gorgeous. This is your club, you should take advantage of what it has to offer. Enjoy your month of July!!!! See you at the Club! Paula

Be especially careful on personal watercrafts. Children younger than age 13 must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD while underway. Enroll in a boater education class. Don t overload your boat. Operate at a safe speed. Always have a passenger serve as a lookout in addition to the operator. Watch out for low water areas or submerged objects. Always Wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) or Life Jacket Most boating fatality victims were found (recovered) NOT wearing a PFD. Always carry extra PFD s in both adult and child sizes. Children younger than 13 years old must wear a PFD while underway. Avoid Alcohol The probability of being killed in a boating accident doubles when alcohol is involved. Operating a boat under the influence is just as dangerous as driving a car after you ve been drinking. Boating while intoxicated (BWI) is strictly enforced and carries penalties similar to driving while intoxicated penalties, including possible Driver s License suspension. Enroll in a Boater Education Course It s a good idea for the whole family to enroll in a boater education course. A majority (52%) vessels involved in boating accidents are operated by persons years of age. For information on classroom, home video and on-line course options, visit the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Boater Education Web pages or call (800) Stay informed: Attend the Monthly Membership Meetings! The 2nd to last Tuesday of every month at 7:30 pm. Be Especially Careful On Personal Watercraft (PWC) PWC operators and passengers must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD. Before you borrow or rent a PWC, take the time to learn how to operate the vessel and the rules of the waterway. Obey the 50-foot rule! Maintain a 50-foot distance from other PWC s, vessels, persons, shore, or stationary platform or other object unless operating at headway (idle) speed. Operate at a Safe Speed Although there are no numerical speed limits on the water, citations may be issued for excessive speed or reckless operation. Use common sense, and operate at a safe speed at all times especially in crowded areas.
