Mount Martha Life Saving Club Mount Martha Life Saving Club was founded on August 12, 1986 and since then has enjoyed a steady growth on members to become one of the largest and most successful life saving clubs in Victoria. We have trained thousands of people in life saving techniques, achieved some excellent results in competition and created a culture of acceptance and fun. MMLSC MMLSC is a member of Life Saving Victoria. As such we are a registered charity and all donations excluding membership are tax deductible. The reason for this success is that we welcome people of all abilities and ages, from all walks of life and encourage them to become active members of our club. All members contribute to the welcoming and have a go attitude that exists throughout the organisation. MISSION STATEMENT The Mount Martha Lifesaving Swimming and Youth Club Incorporated is about learning life saving skills and having fun. It has three main functions: 1. To provide beach patrols during the summer period 2. To educate children and adults in water safety 3. To provide a community venue for healthy lifestyles, personal fitness and competition. PO Box 462 Mount Martha mmlsc@bigpond.net.au COMMITTEE MEETINGS Committee meetings are held at 7pm on the third Tuesday of each month at the club rooms. All members are welcome to attend. The Annual General Meeting is held in May.

PRESIDENT S WELCOME The club AGM was held in May this year and again there was a bit of movement around the table. Some people stepped aside to let others take on the challenges of the club others stood down to focus on other interests within and out of the club. I was very happy to again be elected President. All but a few positions were filled on the night but unfortunately the role of Director of Junior Activates has stood vacant until late October. Luke Woods decided that he was up to the challenge and has taken on the role, I look forward to working with him and helping him where I can throughout the coming season. The most significant change to life saving over the past six months is the introduction of the High Visibility rash vest that will be mandatory for all events that have a water component whether at a carnival or training session. Mt Martha Life Saving Club has also acted upon a recommendation from Life Saving Victoria that whenever a club member enters the water at a training session sanctioned by the club or they are training privately with club equipment they wear their FLURO PINK High Visibility Rash Vest (HVRV). This ruling will be expected across all age groups. I expect that the tops will be available mid-november and can be purchased from the Club Merchandise shop for $15 each. The tops will be club branded I suggest that as soon as you purchase the top you put your child s name in it with a permanent marker that will be located in the merchandise room. This introduction of the HVRV has come about as a result of the second death in three years at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, fluro pink was the color decided on as it is the easiest color seen when submerged in deep rough water, all males and females will be expected to wear the fluro pink. If a member does not have their HVRV they will not be able to participate in water events. Many thanks to everyone involved in the membership renewal process this year, again it was a massive job but made so much easier by all the members that had remembered they login and password access codes. I understand that some still struggle with the process but on the whole everyone handled it a lot better this season. Those few who failed to nominate where they would like to help around the club will be allocated to various rosters. Those who nominated actions that do not complete them will be charged a further $100 on top of next year s renewal fees, the system is so specific that we are now able to pin point who has do what so please if you nominated to do something please comply with the club rules. I m very excited to see that again this season we are looking at record Nipper numbers, I apologise that not every new membership request could be accepted due to the limited places available within the Nipper program. The younger age groups had very few drop out from last season and the preseason wait list was quite large for the Under 6 s. The only way to increase these numbers would be to have at least another 20 parent helpers on the beach every Friday evening and a larger facility to house extra equipment required providing a program at the high standard we have already achieved. Nippers over the past few years have achieved outstanding results at carnivals and I want to wish each and every Nipper all the best for the coming season it doesn t matter if you don t win as long as you try your best on the day, have fun and finish with a smile. I have just come from the first of the three preliminary swim assessments at Mornington High School, I was somewhat surprised at the number of Nippers that turned up to complete the swim and float. Parents that are involved in the Junior Sub Committee, and a couple who just offered their help, kept the Nippers moving through at a steady rate. One other change is the open water competition swim (S Badge) will be timed. The times vary in each age group above Under 9 s and will be adjusted to suit the conditions on the day.

This season there will be five (5) junior carnivals 15 th December, 4 th January, 19 th January (Mt Martha), February 23 rd and March 16 th just before State Championships on the weekend of March 23rd/24th. We should be very excited about the 19 th January as it is the first regular carnival we have held for some years. We will have to put in a lot of work so I will be calling on more than just the usual helpers to get the day up and going as well as returning the beach back to its regular state after the carnival. I look forward to working very close to this season s new Junior Sub Committee which is headed by Luke Woods. We have a few new faces on the committee which is a great testament to those who have built up the program over the last sevem years. It s great to see new people wanting to get involved in the development of not only their own kids but the whole Nipper program. Seniors, well where do I start, some seniors have not stopped training all through the off season which will prepare them for a big season that consists of seven (7) carnivals starting on the 1 st of December and winding up on the 24 th February followed by State Titles and then Aussies April 15 th to 21 st Seniors have invaded the beach on Thursday evenings, so many new faces and names to remember. With the high numbers seniors should have an even better season than last year. They are a great group of kids who do their best for the club and themselves. Seniors support the Nippers program so much and without their help the program would struggle. They chip in with the coaching and are a huge presence on the water as the water safety component of the program. Anglesea SLSC will be the host for this season s Seniors camp which again should be great for team bonding amongst the group. Rescue 2012 is the first step for some of the Masters crew this season. Thirteen (13) Masters will take on the world s best in three disciplines, Beach Open water and Pool events in Adelaide between Thursday 8 th, and Sunday 11 th, of November. Good luck to all involved and show that Mt Martha spirit. Masters training will again be headed by the Doc, (Dr Scott Fifield) on a Wednesday evening. Sessions will run for about 90 mins weather dependent and on hot nights sessions will finish later. The club has four new surf skis on order which will be used quite a lot as more masters become interested in paddling. Under Scott s direction masters have shown that we older folk can still hold our own at all levels and will be pushing for another State Title this season. I encourage any member over the age of 30 to come down on a Wednesday and join in.it is a great way to meet other members if you are new to the area or club and it s great fun, no pressure just do what you can. Those brave souls we call the Icebergers were the only ones that didn t think this winter was cold due to them swimming in that very cold water on the weekends and during the week. It still amazes me how many take on the challenge each year. Again over the winter they had a swim off against the Brighton Icebergers at Lorne. The respect between the two groups is mutual. I just think they are nuts, too cold for this land lover, good luck to them I say. Scott Norman this season is the man in charge of the MMAD Swim. Again I m sure it will be an amazing event with the entry numbers being raised for the 5km swim by 50%. Last year s event was run so successfully that we now we have the resources to run a larger event this season. Weather willing the event will be another great spectacle on Australia Day Good luck to all who swim on the day. Darren Hood was inducted as the newest Life Member at the club dinner that was held at the Atrium in Safety Beach earlier this year. A great night was had by all. Darren appeared to be overwhelmed with the award and it took me ages to get the honour board back off him. Darren has been involved at MMLSC since 1998 and has held a numbers of key roles within the club over that time. This season Darren has become Gear Steward. He has named the boards and covers so they all match

up. This will help with keeping track of all gear and its use. Also a log book will be hanging in the board room so boards can be signed in and out to keep track of their use. As for the Building Project we have had some back and forward movement with all the relevant authorities and should be displaying the Yellow Board (notice of planning application) by the time you are reading this article. The design has changed a little, with a slight reduction in size but with a bit of rejigging of the floor plans we seem to have almost the same area that we wanted to achieve for the re-development. The design will be available for viewing in the near future. Remember if you are a patrolling member you are obliged to find someone to cover your shift if you are unable to attend yourself. Some patrolling members might be approached to help with the schools program during the remainder of this school year and at the start of the 2013 school year. This program has gone from grown over the years and has become a favourite program with many schools within our community and from way outside the Mt Martha area. With the club s continued support this program should keep growing from strength to strength. We are indebted to our sponsors whose vital funds allow us to invest in new equipment while maintaining our facility and programs to the best of our ability. In advance, I want to thank our existing sponsors who have supported us for many years and welcome the new businesses that have come onboard over the off season. As a volunteer organisation we rely heavily on your generosity and rest assure the funds and services that you provide not only benefit the Mt Martha Life Saving Club but also the wider community. Remember it s your club, enjoy everything about your club and its perfect location. See you on the beach! John Harvey MMLSC President

WELL BEING OFFICERS Mount Martha Life Saving Club fosters and facilitates an environment where all members feel welcome and desire to be involved in the Club. The positive attitudes and behaviours of all members create a safe and supportive environment ensuring every person involved in the Mount Martha Life Saving Club is treated with respect and dignity. At Mount Martha Life Saving Club we will treat all incidences of a wellbeing nature seriously, and will ensure complaints are dealt with promptly, impartially, and confidentially. The Club has appointed two Well Being Officers, Justine Lucas and Dave Verlinden as the first point of contact for anyone feeling their wellbeing has been infringed or breached. The Well Being Officers provide confidential information and support to the person reporting that theirs or a child s wellbeing has been compromised. The Well Being Officers can act as a sounding board and support the person in making decisions and taking actions that aim to restore wellbeing. Well being at the Mount Martha Life Saving Club commits to eliminating discrimination, harassment, child abuse and other forms of inappropriate behaviour. As part of this commitment, Mount Martha Life Saving Club will investigate any acts that infringe on a person s wellbeing whilst involved in any way with our Club. If discrimination or harassment is found to have taken place, action will be taken. Surf Life Saving Australia policy states that every person shall be protected from abuse, discrimination or harassment by other members or outside sources and have responsibility for cooperating in providing a discrimination, child abuse and harassment free SLSA environment. The Mount Martha Life Saving Club s Well Being approach is in line with SLSA and LSV policies and encompasses an equity policy to promote an environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, specifically the Club believes in: i. Social justice is about ensuring all people whether members of MMLSC or the community receive a fair go. ii. Equal opportunity is about ensuring every person is treated the same and has a similar chance to participate in Mount Martha Life Saving Club activities. iii. Harassment Free Environment (Harassment is offensive, humiliating and intimidating and is counter-productive conduct in the SLSA environment, and may occur in relation to a person s sex, race, religion, age, disability, pregnancy, marital status and sexual preference). There are several levels of sponsorship packages which cater for all sponsor needs and budgets. Supporting MMLSC offers sponsors a chance to market their business to a membership base of over 1000 and to a much larger audience through our clubs events, website and competition attendance. 22 PROVIDING BEACH PATROL DURING SUMMER

WHY BECOME A PATROL MEMBER FOR MMLSC? The primary and number one aim for MMLSC is to provide beach patrols during the summer period. MMLSC would not exist without providing this vital service. Patrol members are volunteers and are organised into patrol teams with each patrol team rostered to patrol approximately 9 days per summer period. For patrol members to be eligible to compete for MMLSC the Surf Rescue Certificate and or Life Saving Bronze Medallion (Certificate II Public Safety) must be attained however some patrol members can and will obtain awards like Advanced Resuscitation or Senior First Aid so they can still provide a service to the community and be part of a patrol team. There are many different awards patrol members can also be trained in Inflatable Rescue Boat Driver and or Crew, Advanced Resuscitation Techniques, Level II First Aid Certificate, Spinal Injury Management Basic Beach Management and Rescue Water Craft Operator. These awards once trained and completed will provide you with life skills that can be used both on and off the beach. Patrol uniform is provided and must be worn whilst on patrol and all other equipment that is required to provide a safe working environment is also provided by MMLSC. DHL is a major sponsor with SLSA and they currently fund new uniforms for all Australian patrolling surf lifesavers as well as a recognition program to promote excellence in the surf lifesaving movement. Patrol teams are made up of club members with wide and diverse backgrounds, a mix of ages and experience in lifesaving ranging from decades to new members getting involved for the first time.

INFLATABLE RESCUE BOAT (IRB) The club has three fully operational IRB s. Generally only one boat is left assembled, ready to go in case of urgent need, the other two are easily accessible and can be assembled quickly if required. Patrols should try to rotate motors so that they are all used equally. General Boating rules apply to IRB s, except in rescue situations. These include: 5 knot speed limit within 50m of swimmers 5 knots within 50m of another vessel 5 knots within 200m of water s edge Power boat gives way to sail boats Remember to log your IRB hours so that they can be acknowledged for boating awards. There will be at least one IRB training weekend during the season for awards. There must always be a certified IRB Driver in the boat. Bronze Medallion holders gaining hours for IRB awards may serve as crew. PFD s [Life jackets] are to be worn when the IRB is used out of sight of the club. Motors need to be rinsed with fresh water after use. Boats need to be rinsed of salt and sand after Sunday Patrols, as sand build is like sandpaper on the soft hull. Fuel cells need to be removed and stored in the fuel cabinet. The IRB Log Book should be referred to at the start of a patrol to ensure that craft are not malfunctioning. The Log Book needs to be completed after patrol and any problems reported to the IRB Captain. Low fuel levels should also be reported. If anyone is interested in competing in IRB competitions in the off season, please let me know. Jon Myers IRB Captain

EDUCATING CHILDREN AND ADULTS IN WATER SAFTEY

NIPPERS With over 400 Nippers it is almost impossible to comply with our legal responsibilities in respect to duty of care without significant parental support. In order to ensure that we provide the best possible program with the available resources all families who are participating in the Nippers program have been encouraged to join as an Active Family Membership. If there is insufficient commitment the program will have to be scaled back accordingly. All Nippers must be registered under a Family Membership with their parents/guardians. Note: all parents/guardians must obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) with BOTH Life Saving Victoria and Mount Martha Life Saving Club listed as your volunteer organisations before your Family Membership application can be accepted (and your child can participate in the Nippers program). For more information on WWCC and Information Sheet with instructions to update your existing WWCC or how to obtain a new WWCC to satisfy your membership requirements go to WWCC sub-heading under the Membership Registration tab at club website. AGE REQUIREMENTS The minimum age for children to participate in Nippers in Victoria is 5 years (U/6 up to maximum age of 13 years (U/14) on a season basis (age for season is determined as at midnight on 30th September at the commencement of that season). Birth certificates may be requested at time of registration. Each Nippers age group will have a maximum of 30 children. Nippers must stay in their relevant age groups of their age as at 30th September of current year. At Carnivals all Nippers must compete in the individual events in their own age group, but can go up one age group to make up teams in team events if required however priority is to compete for registered age group. JUNIOR (NIPPERS) PROGRAM The Junior (Nippers) Program was developed to equip children with the skills, confidence and knowledge to enjoy the beach environment safely. As well as beach and water awareness and surf sports, lifesaving develops essential life skills such as self confidence, reliability, resiliency and teamwork. The Nippers pathway teaches lessons and skills allowing them to continue in lifesaving and sport as they grow older. The program pathways learning towards the Surf Rescue Certificate which members can begin training towards from the age of 13 years

JUNIOR PRELIMINARY EVALUATION Many activities that will be completed by children as part of the junior activities will be conducted in the water. To ensure that all children have suitable swimming ability to allow them to participate in these activities, Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) has developed a Junior Preliminary Skills evaluation for each age group. All Nippers are required to participate in this preliminary evaluation, conducted by the club, prior to any junior water activity training or competition being undertaken. It includes a swim and a float which is progressively increased by age group. Preliminary Evaluation will normally occur during the month of October following completion of membership registration and must be completed before any water activity is undertaken. The intent of this is to conduct an evaluation of each junior member s own swimming and water survival ability for the information of the member, parent and age manager. Any child that does not meet the required evaluation level will not be able to be involved in any water based activities until such time as they do complete the preliminary skills evaluation competently. It does not preclude the child from becoming a member or participating in other Nipper beach activities. High Visibility Fluro Pink Lycra Vests We are committed to ensuring all surf sports events are run at the highest standard whilst ensuring the safety of competitor s remains paramount at all times. With this in mind we will be implementing an LSV policy requiring all competitors in senior and junior ocean-based lifesaving events held in Victoria to wear a Fluoro Pink High Visibility lycra competition vest, similar to a rash vest in singlet form. This policy also extends to training and using club equipment, as such all Nippers will be required to purchase and wear their individual vest in order to participate in the Nippers program (no exceptions). JUNIOR COMPETITION EVALUATION ( S BADGE) From the age of 8 (U/9) Nippers can begin to compete in inter-club competition. To ensure that all Nippers who wish to compete have the ability, strength and fitness standard, all Nippers must achieve the competition evaluation for their age group to be eligible to compete. The evaluation is based on the swim distances as set out in the Surf Sports Manual for that age group in the form of an open water swim. Age Managers will arrange for interested Nippers to complete Competition Evaluation prior to commencement of the Carnival season.

If your child wants to compete in carnivals during the season it will be a requirement that at least one parent/guardian holds accreditation (or working towards) as an Age Manager, Official, Water Safety or Coach to assist with Carnival events. It will not mean that you will be required at every Carnival but ensures that MMLSC has sufficient qualified members to fulfill Life Saving Victoria Carnival Official and Water Safety ratios to participants and that an Age Manager is available to effectively manage each age group competing. This is a Life Saving Victoria mandatory requirement and if not satisfied our Nippers cannot compete. No experience is required and MMLSC will provide training for all roles and pay the cost of any courses or awards. You may be required to purchase a training manual. Exception: if a family is attending carnivals for the first season they will not be required to complete above accreditation or assist at competing Carnival events to give them time to familiarise themselves with the Carnival workings. 42 SENIORS (14+) Over the past few seasons we have seen the Seniors Program grow into a well established and smooth running machine that has seen numerous kids enjoy the benefits of life saving and the social interaction that goes with it. This year s program will be a repeat of previous years with training nights remaining the same and the same suite of programs on offer. Once again we welcome back head coach Troy Cochrane who will coordinate both general training and board training. Troy will also be assisted by a host of dedicated coaches who will help keep the masses in control. If there s one thing the Seniors Program needs more of, it s parents who would like to get involved with coaching. Experience isn t necessary, just a willingness to get involved the rewards of helping these great kids is priceless! It s also worthy to note that Jamie Jack will head up the sprint coaching again this year and he has had a dedicated bunch of athletes training all winter. These sprint sessions on a Monday night are highly beneficial for anyone wishing to increase their running ability regardless of whether it s for life saving, athletics or team sport. Have a talk to Jamie and get involved, you won t be disappointed! A reminder to all Seniors participants that to compete you require 16 hours of patrol in the calendar year, you re also doing a great service for the club and even more importantly gaining a life saving award that may just help save a life it also looks great on your resume when applying for a job. Seniors Camp is scheduled for November 17 & 18 and will be held at Anglesea SLSC. The camp will consist of life saving training and team building exercises along with some free time to shop and surf. Aussies will be on the radar again for many of the Seniors again this season and the club will again be offering a points system (see below) to help subsidise the cost of travel and accommodation. Anyone who went last year will tell you what an amazing event this to attend and we re expecting to take an even bigger team in Points for the subsidy are accrued by attending training, patrolling, providing water safety or assisting at club events such as the MMAD swim. Keep mid April free and start saving it will be fantastic! We will also be looking to field a strong team at the State Championships so stay tuned for dates and accommodation details. Finally, this season will be all about having fun, staying fit and hanging out with great people. We will endeavour to cater for everybody s needs and provide a worthwhile program that we can all take positives away from. We ask everyone taking part to join in with a Can Do attitude and help ensure MMLSC remains a great place to spend a summer.

MASTERS Wednesday night is Masters training night. Attendees range in age from mid 20 s to 60 s though there are no formal age limits. All ranges of fitness and craft skills are catered for, from novices to elite competitors. All that is required is enthusiasm and a desire to improve fitness in an aquatic environment. Talk to any experienced club member for some perspective on what we do. Our activities include swimming, running on the sand, flags, ski s and mal paddling. Masters training continues to be more about participation than competition although we cater for the latter as well. Each year a number of Masters competitors take part in State, Australian and sometimes World championships and any qualified person is able to enter these events. Mount Martha Masters have won the last three Masters State Championships at Lorne and have done so as much through depth as through talent. The next Masters carnival is at Lorne on Saturday 9 February. A Masters vs Seniors challenge occurs each year and generates much friendly rivalry. This tradition will continue, at least until such time as the Masters win! All appropriate club members are welcome to attend next season each Wednesday night from 6-7:30pm from the start of daylight saving. If you like the idea of having a run on the sand, a paddle on or a swim in the sea, then come and give it a try! - all the while enjoying the supportive atmosphere provided by your peers. No prior craft skills are required though a willingness to get wet is expected. If you are considering coming along next season and would like to know more about what we do, contact Scott at sfifield@netspace.net.au

WORLD LIFESAVING CHAMPIONSHIPS Rescue 2012, the Lifesaving World Championships, is the largest international lifesaving sport competition in the world and in recent years has attracted between 3,000 and 4,000 competitors. Adelaide will host the event in November Fifteen masters lifesavers from Mt Martha will be heading over to compete in the ocean, beach and pool events and to official at this event. MOUNT MARTHA ICEBERGERS The Mt Martha LSC Icebergers have completed its sixth winter and continues to grow in both participants and support crew. At present there are 29 Icebergers. Congratulations to Collin Shugg and Rod Shaw who completed the 2012 winter challenge to join the Icebergers. The group met every Saturday and Sunday with swim times starting at 7am through to 8am and most mid-week mornings as well as afternoons with times varying depending on sunrise and sunset. All swims usually finished with a coffee and chat session at the local cafes. Swim times and distances vary depending on ability, weather, water temperature and the flow of the estuary with safety being paramount whenever open water swimming is undertaken. It is important that common sense rules and to stay well within your physical limits and capabilities. Aside from the regular weekly sessions there are also several one off and impromptu swims to keep the season interesting. The pre-christmas swim to Fisherman s Beach from the club followed by a pizza dinner is always popular event. These are usually organised by or text and you are more than welcome to have your name added to the list. One swim well worth adding to the calendar is the Lorne winter swim in July, which makes for a great weekend away as we join the Brighton Icebergers in a fun and challenging experience. The Iceberger group were involved in the following events and activities:- In May the annual Master Masters Golf Tournament organised by Paul Goldsmith was held at the Mt Martha Golf Course. The 2012 winner was David Verlinden. They assisted in raising well needed money for the Salvation Army 2012 Red Shield Appeal. They celebrated the beginning of the winter season in June with a dinner at South Beach Café where Iceberger Rookie certificates were presented to those willing to take up the 2012winter challenge. They assisted with water safty, RWC fort The Winter Lorne Pier to Pub with the Brighton Icebergers Kaye Jarrott 1 st female and Dave Unwin 1 st Male from Mt Martha Icebergers across the line.

They celebrated the end of the winter season in November with food and drinks at "Mr Curtis" in Mt Martha Iceberger certificates were presented to new icebereger swimmers and Iceberger of the Year presented to Kaye Jarrott. Their names were added to the Iceberger Honour Board and Rebecca B rown s framed bathers. In early December they successfully trialled the five-kilometre course that was introduced into the 2012 MMAD swim program organised with the help of Dr Melinda Kemp. Dave Verlinden took part in the Giants of the Bay a 42 kilometre corporate team swim event on March the 10 th and 11 th 2012 raising money for Autism Spectrum Disorder. In April 2012 we had a number of simmers represented the Mt Martha Icebergers in the Battle of the Bay against the Peninsula Pirates and the Brighton Icebergers at Brighton. The Icebergers are very fortunate to have Vanessa and Nick Wootton and Croft Wootton Construction and John Harvey of Polar Brickwork as sponsors. The Mt Martha group wishes to thank Grant and Bec Gibbs for their ongoing support from the outset of the icebergers, as they embark on a new adventure in Western Australia with their family. Please check the water before entering, and we look forward to the Rock nest swim in March You will be missed. If you are interested in taking up the 2013 winter challenge or you would like your name and mobile added to the swimmers and support crew list call David Verlinden on or verdel14@bigpond.com Or if you would like more information and/ or advice on Iceberger swimming you are welcome to call David Verlinden on or Jodie Shanahan on Remember. There is no such thing as a bad swim, some are just better than other swims. See you in the water.

PROVIDING A COMMUNITY VENUE FOR HEALTHY LIFESTYLES, PERSONAL FITNESS AND COMPETITION

MMAD 2013 A terrific event for our Mt Martha Life Saving club, the Mt Martha Australia Day Swim is a great way to celebrate Australia Day and provides great entertainment for the local community and the many visitors to our region. The MMAD Swim sees so many club members and friends volunteering their time to support our Life Saving Club and to assist with the success of our largest annual club event. The MMAD Swim remains as one of the most popular swim events in the Great Victorian Swim Series. The "Great Victorian Swim Series" is coordinated by Cousins Tours & Travel and is an ocean swim series for the thousands of recreational swimmers who take part in individual swims over summer. The aim of the series is to encourage more people to be active and take part in these great community events that help raise money for our surf life saving clubs. The MMAD Swim continues to grow in popularity each year, with swimmers travelling from all over Victoria to take their place in our great event. The 2012 MMAD Swim also saw an increase in team entries, from clubs and swimming groups, with further team entries encouraged again this year. The 2013 MMAD Swim event will consist of: 5 km Crazy Swim 1.2 km MMAD Swim 400m Novice Swim 200m Nipper Swim The option of the Crazy Combo for swimmers who wish to swim both the 5km and 1.2km swims will again be provided this year. The 5km swim was so successful last year that the number of participants has been increased in 2013 however limited places still remain so register early to avoid missing out! The MMAD Swim is supported by a fantastic group of local businesses who contribute to the swim s success. It is a terrific way to profile the MMLSC as an organisation of great strength within the community and is the largest single event held in Mt Martha annually. The water safety team bringing in the last swimmer is a very proud moment for our club. All club members are encouraged to support the swim on this day and the Nipper swim is also a highlight for our younger members as they work their way towards the senior event.
