Bridie Ritchie - Co-founder Sprout Hub WELCOME Welcome to 2018, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and holiday season. The year of 2018 will be an exciting time for Alkimos Beach.

We have listened to your feedback and are very excited to confirm that one of these parks will have a fitness focus, so you can put those New Year s resolutions into practice!

We will be implementing strategies to minimise impact to all residents but if you do have any issues please get in touch with our customer service centre on the number below.

Many of you will have been part of our local consultations, including the art workshops held at the Alkimos Beach Primary School.

As detailed in the Sprout article (opposite), Sprout Hub Alkimos Beach will now remain until the end of 2018.

You will see your community grow and develop further, with more retail outlets opening at the Gateway Shopping Precinct, two new residential precincts under construction and creation of new parklands. We have listened to your feedback and are very excited to confirm that one of these parks will have a fitness focus, so you can put those New Year s resolutions into practice! This does mean a significant amount of construction work will be taking place around your Alkimos Beach community. We will be implementing strategies to minimise impact to all residents but if you do have any issues please get in touch with our customer service centre on the number below. Another exciting project taking place at Alkimos Beach is the development of interpretive signage and hike and bike trails. Many of you will have been part of our local consultations, including the art workshops held at the Alkimos Beach Primary School. Learning and implementing what you want to see included in your local area is fundamental to the project being a success; it s what will create a lasting legacy at Alkimos Beach. As detailed in the Sprout article (opposite), Sprout Hub Alkimos Beach will now remain until the end of We understand how important Sprout Hub has been in helping to create this amazing community and it is great that it will be staying a little while longer before moving just down the road to Alkimos Vista for the next chapter. Speaking of Alkimos Vista, Lendlease is extremely proud to be partnering with LandCorp on this new development, located to the north across Marmion Avenue. We will be bringing the same commitment to Vista as to Beach, and will continue to develop the best places in the northern corridor. Lastly, congratulations to the Alkimos Surf Life Saving Club for holding an amazing surf life saving carnival to kick off the summer. Over 400 Nippers descended on Alkimos Beach and had an amazing day. See photos of all the action in the following pages of this issue. The white walls and pristine interior were a source of pride for myself and co-founders Lachy and Kate. We were ready to create a welcoming place for future locals, and thrilled to meet the early residents, who encouraged us with their relief to, finally have some good coffee up here!. Visiting now, you can barely see those white walls through the artwork, plants, event posters, business cards, and local makers items for sale. The space is no longer pristine and unmarked but lovingly worn in. So much has changed, but one thing remains: we still get told we make the best coffee around! But as you all know, the hub is much more than coffee, this year we hosted 118 events with 2265 people coming along. The café has raised $8,052 for local community groups and combined with Lendlease and LandCorp contributions this has helped support 6 local groups, clubs and projects. And my personal favorite, 63% of people who visited the space said they met someone new or made a new friend there. These are all wonderful outcomes, and the reason we all come to work everyday! This year in June marked the 3-year point of the project- wow that happened fast. This was when the hub was supposed to be moving but thanks to the project partners and overwhelming support from the community, the project was extended until March, And now we have the fantastic news that we will, in fact, be staying in the park until December 2018, with some exciting things in the pipeline for Sprout Hub 2.0 at Alkimos Vista in I speak for all of the Sprout team in inviting each and every one of you to get involved this year, our final year in Escarpment Park. Follow our social media channels to find out about great events and workshops, engage with the Seedling Fund by applying or voting to decide how to spend locally raised funds (the next round is opening in Feb 2018). Or just bring a friend in for a coffee or come and make a new one. After all, we are a little place for a little while, and although we are staying a little while longer, we won t be in the park forever. Gateway Street Fair On Saturday 18 November, the Alkimos Beach community hosted more than 2000 people at its second annual Gateway Street Fair. The sun was shining as bright bouncy castles, fairies and music kept families entertained, and a strong presence of community groups showcased the vibrancy of the community. With the support of Ecorp, the developers of the Gateway Shopping Precinct, a host of new retailers opened their doors for the day, giving visitors a taste of what is to come at the exciting new shopping precinct. Stage one of The Gateway Shopping Precinct is now complete, offering a diverse range of amenities and services to the fastgrowing Alkimos Beach community. At Alkimos Beach we are passionate about creating a welcoming community where neighbours can get to know each other through community groups and activities, said Anthony Rowbottam, General Manager of Communities WA. It s these sorts of activities that create such a vibrant community at Alkimos Beach.

The vision for Alkimos Vista is to become a community that embraces an energetic and vibrant lifestyle. It s where kids can run, explore and create and families can grow.

Alkimos Vista is located north of Alkimos Beach and east of Marmion Avenue (south of Shorehaven).

Construction of Stage 1 is now underway, with the first residents expected to move in, in early 2019.

By now, most of you would have seen the new brightly coloured signage on Marmion Avenue which I am sure has sparked some interested as to what Alkimos Vista will be all about. The vision for Alkimos Vista is to become a community that embraces an energetic and vibrant lifestyle. It s where kids can run, explore and create and families can grow. It s where loving the outdoors is a way of life and a place that is inspired by a creative spirit, designed to surprise and delight. Alkimos Vista is located north of Alkimos Beach and east of Marmion Avenue (south of Shorehaven). It s on the doorstep of the future Alkimos Central, a development by LandCorp, which will offer an array of transport, retail, entertainment and education precincts. Construction of Stage 1 is now underway, with the first residents expected to move in, in early This will also coincide with the opening of a large new parkland and playground at the entry to the community which will contain your favourite Sprout Hub, along with passive and active spaces for all ages. Laura Swinton Development Manager Alkimos Vista News from the Alkimos Beach Progress Association The Alkimos Beach Progress Association provides a voice for the community to directly influence ideas and decisions within Alkimos Beach and the wider Alkimos region. The Association meets at 7pm on the first Monday of each month at the St James Anglican School Church Hall. Everyone who is a resident of Alkimos Beach is welcome to attend and no formal membership is required. The meetings are the perfect opportunity to hear about what is planned for Alkimos Beach in the immediate and long term as well as hear from guest speakers who have an interest in the development of a strong and supportive community at Alkimos Beach. The Association has had a bit of a break over the holiday season and return for their first meeting of 2018 on Monday February 5th at 7pm. At this upcoming meeting you can hear from Lendlease representatives about the new Alkimos Vista development and the extension of the Sprout Hub at Alkimos Beach. You can contact the Progress Association at alkimosbchprogressassociation@gmail.com or President Chris White on Alkimos Surf Life Saving Club hosts nippers carnival Over 400 nippers from across Perth descended on Alkimos Beach earlier this month for the Junior Surf Life Saving Carnival. Surf Life Saving WA Chief Executive Officer, James O Toole, said it was fantastic to see Alkimos Beach host such a successful event in only its second year as a club. Feedback from participating clubs was overwhelmingly positive with many commenting on how smoothly the event ran, he said. Alkimos Surf Life Saving Club was founded in June 2017 through a partnership with Lendlease, LandCorp and Surf Life Saving WA. As part of the partnership, an award-winning temporary surf club was delivered, providing a vibrant new facility for the community. It will remain the club s base until a permanent facility is built by the City of Wanneroo. Alkimos Surf Life Saving Club President, Maren Scriven, said the Nippers event was the perfect way to showcase the growth of the club over the last 12 months. We have come a long way in such a short time with already 200 members signed up. We are looking forward to seeing where the next twelve months will take us, she said. For the rest of the year the club and its members will remain busy with Nippers activities, adult programs and carnivals on the agenda, as well as fundraising events to allow the club to purchase additional equipment. General Manager of Communities WA, Anthony Rowbottam, said the Surf Life Saving Club has become an important community hub within Alkimos Beach. The club delivers integral water safety programs for residents but it also provides a place for new members of our community to meet and bond over shared interests which is essential for a well-connected community, he said. Family film nights On Friday the 15th of December, the Christmas film Elf lit up the big screen at the Sprout Hub, the first family film night of the season. 59% of residents voted for the 2003 comedy. The evening started with the sizzle of sausages, and even Santa made an appearance, before residents settled down on blankets and cushions to enjoy the show. The family film night series will continue into summer, with screenings on Saturday the 17th of February and Saturday the 17th March. Explore technology in a safe and fun environment: join the fun every Wednesday and learn to build websites or apps. The program offers a fun environment where kids can be kids and adults can enjoy play time too!
