1 1 WELCOME! Thank you for coming to the Information Session! Please provide us with your comments and ideas. We will use your input to inform the visioning process and creation of the framework for the park s future. This is the first of two public sessions for this process. WHAT IS HAPPENING? We are looking closely at the Town Centre Park and thinking of its future. The objective is to create a comprehensive plan to guide the future development of Town Centre Park in a way that builds on its current success and accommodates both active and passive uses. 2 2 THE HISTORY With a strong vision, any place, even a gravel pit, can become a jewel and a pride of the City. IT WAS A GRAVEL PIT. Town Centre Park was originally a gravel quarry operated by Lafarge with the land being leased from the Province of BC. IT WAS TRANSFORMED. The transformation from resource recovery site to recreation and leisure facility took place gradually. IT WAS ENVISIONED. In 1995 a Town Centre Park Master Plan was developed to guide the future development of Town Centre Park. IT BECAME A DESTINATION. Town Centre Park is expected to experience a substantial increase in the number of users of the facilities and amenities within the park.

7 7 THE PARK ACTIVE VS. PASSIVE The park site has a long history and over the years development of the site has evolved to accommodate many needs and uses, both passive and active.
