1 PRESIDENT S FOREWORD What a very tiring and busy last week it s been for our clubbies, and on so many fronts too! Firstly, a huge shout out to all our very dedicated and committed volunteers who spent their past weekend helping with both the Tin Shake and Noosa Triathlon. To JAC Heather Mackay and your committee well done on rallying so many families to man the Sunshine Beach and Noosa Fair shops which saw our efforts raise just on $3,000. This is a great effort by all, but a very special thank you to all our awesome Nippers, because those smiling little faces certainly help put the coins in the tins! My thanks also to Michelle Smallman, Scott Summers and Jarrad Greentree for your efforts in coordinating all our volunteers who assisted with the water safety at the Noosa Triathlon over the weekend. To each of you my personal thanks, and a special mention to the Smallman crew in particular, with the entire family working spending their weekend at the Noosa Tri on behalf of our club, what a cracking effort indeed. It was also great to hear so many positive comments from over the weekend in regards to the team spirit, camaraderie and the enjoyment everyone had with their volunteering efforts. To hear comments like, "this is what makes Sunshine great when everyone comes together and helps out" is simply terrific and makes me so very proud to be surrounded by the many outstanding members we currently have in this club. I often use the slogan "Unity is Strength", well I'd certainly suggest that feeling resonated amongst all our clubbies over this past weekend. Once again, thank you everyone and well done!!! On the Surf Sports front, the cracking start to our season for so many of our dedicated competitors was never more obvious than when the Sunshine Coast Branch representative Team was announced last week. Sunshine Beach had an unprecedented 12 members chosen in the team which certainly reinforces that our club continues to be a Surf Sports powerhouse! Congratulations to Abbie Tolano, Lulu Korac, Francesca McKinley, Charlotte Crow, Carl Vaughan, Zac Bromage, Ruby Nolan, Katie Gleeson, Olivia Emanuel, Thomas Baker, Jonty Redwood and Max Moore (Res). I have no doubt each of you will do your selections justice in the coming weeks as you represent both your club and branch at the upcoming Qld Inter-Branch Titles. Now for a real change of pace, as one of our clubbies Rory "The Real Deal" Sanders dons the gloves at the upcoming "Contender Charity Boxing Event" with funds raised going to support our volunteer lifesaving program. I've always known Rory to be a cracking swimmer, so if he can "throw 'em" as well as he punches out the laps, then I'm predicting a knockout win for "The Real Deal"!!! I know Rory would love to see as many of our clubbies there on the night in support of him, so please make sure you get along to the Noosa Leisure Centre on Saturday the 19th of November from 6pm. Tickets available at the door from $30. I would also like to past on our best wishes to the Gleeson Family following the passing of Dave's father Keith during the week. On behalf of all our clubbies, our thoughts and prayers are with Dave and his family who head to Sydney this week for the funeral, RIP Keith. Unity is Strength! SURF RESCUE COMPETITION MEETING There will be a meeting on Sunday 6 th November at 8.00am after Nippers muster for anyone U14 Masters who would like to find out about Surf Rescue Competitions and maybe join our Surf Rescue Team this season. VOLUNTEER OFFICIALS NEEDED We are desperately short of officials to the point that we will have to limit the number of children attending Nippers Carnivals if we don t get more. If you have a child in Nippers and would like them to attend carnivals then please become an official. We need 1 official to every 8 kids competing so even if you currently assist in other roles please consider getting your officials award so we can be sure to cover requirements. 4 NIPPERS It was great to be on patrol on Sunday morning watching a sea of pink and orange rashies darting around!! From the sprint track to the ocean, there seemed to be a lot of energy abounding!! All members please check the calendar (to be found on the website if you don t have a copy) to see when your age group is on set up/pack up duties. When it is your turn, please be at the club by 7:15am. I know this is a cliché but it is true; many hands make light work. We need ALL hands on deck to help out to pack up afterwards! There are red boards for the Nippers to use on a Sunday morning if they don t have one or choose to leave their fiberglass board at home. Pease ensure that if your child uses one of these boards that they take it back up to the club after Nippers. There were way too many left on the beach last week (even one is too many!!) Our Tin Shake Appeal was a great success, with $2900 being raised! From our youngest Nipper to our oldest Active, our aim is to Help Save Lives, and these funds will be well utilized to that end. Unfortunately the wait for orders is out of our control; please rest assured that we will you all as soon as the stock arrives. We are at the shop from 7-9 Sunday mornings, so if you don t catch us before Nippers, pop in after the rush. Tara and Michelle SURF SPORTS Lots of fine results are now coming in. Met Caloundra teams carnival and the Summer of Surf showed off some amazing results and the talent our club has; results on Surf Sports web Page. Great to see everyone uphold the Sunshine Spirit. Improvement can only be achieved through hard work at training and attendance. Our u14 boys need a special mention here; their improvement has been out-of-sight. Thanks to our coaches Ryan, Pauline, Clint, Kerri, Alex and Tristan for helping out over the respective carnivals. Well done to Pauline Gleeson our sprint coach. Pauline is achieving some outstanding results with individuals and teams. Fastest Man on Sand round 1 was held last weekend with Katie Gleeson 3rd in flags and 3rd beach sprint whilst Tom Baker was 7th in beach sprint and 1st in the flags. Pauline is running a great program and the more the merrier. The Sunshine Coast Branch team (U13-17) has been selected and once again well done to those chosen and to everyone else who competed in the various trials. This is a very successful team and to have 12 team members is outstanding. Well done to: Abbie Tolano, Lulu Korac, Francesca McKinley, Charlotte Crow, Carl Vaughan, Ruby Nolan, Zachary Bromage, Jonty Redwood, Katie Gleeson, Thomas Baker, Olivia Emanuel & Max Moore (reserve). Congratulations also to Brock Redwood who will be the Pool Rescue coach and Lawsy the Team Manager. By all accounts our club dominated most age groups with outstanding results in the Arena 1000 and Run-Swim- Run at the Noosa Tri festival well done! This weekend Oceans 38 at Kirra, 22 competitors will line up from u14 to opens and it s great to see the bus full. A reminder to please kept track of carnival bulletins and nominations on the Surf Sports notice board, from u8 to masters; the nomination close date means closed, don't be the one to miss out. Please ensure if you nominate, you compete. We pay entries and there are no refunds to club for no shows. Carnival officials are an important component of our surf sports program, we simply cannot compete without them. For every 8 kids at a carnival we need one official for a whole day; if we try to split days that means we need 2 officials. So to all parents, older siblings and grandparents of competitors, it is incredibly important that we get lots of you to become officials. If you don't then it may be that your child won t be able to compete.
