2 Volunteers Needed! The ASA and the RNLI are working together on a project called Swim Safe. The 2013 pilot took place in Bude and was a fantastic success with over 2300 children taking part in the programme. In 2014 the programme will be expanding to 3 locations across the country between Monday 28 th July Tuesday 26 th August 2014 (please see below for site specific dates): 1. Bude Sea Pool, Bude, Cornwall 2. Boscombe Beach, Bournemouth 3. Sandhaven Beach, South Shields, Tyne and Wyre The programme offers free improver swimming lessons and beach safety advice for children aged Most young people learn to swim in an indoor pool which is a safe and familiar environment. Swim Safe gives young people the opportunity to test and improve their swimming ability in a different aquatic environment. Children are being offered the opportunity to attend the free 40 minute session which will include beach safety advice provided by RNLI lifeguards and up to 30 minutes in-water tuition with ASA accredited teachers. The programme is weather dependant and sessions will be adjusted accordingly. What volunteer roles are available? Booking and Customer Relations The main tasks of this role are: Manage all phone/on site bookings and swimmer registrations. Ensure all disclaimers have been signed for those booked onto a session. Provide bookings lists to all operational team prior to the start of the lessons. Preparing goody bags. Skills required: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Basic IT skills word/excel/ Organisational skills Basic Admin

3 Participant Coordinator The main tasks of this role are: Liaising with swimming delivery staff. Checking booking list with teachers and placing participant in correct groups. Assisting with children putting on wetsuits / swimming caps and distributing swimming equipment. Ensure participants are at correct positions (RNLI talk / lesson). Distributing goody bags on completion of the session. Ensuring participants are returned to responsible adults. Carry out research questionnaires Skills required: Friendly and approachable Enthusiastic and motivated Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Good time management Promotional Staff The main tasks of this role are: Local promotion of lessons by distributing flyers on beaches, in shops, local campsites and supermarkets. Handling enquiries and answering questions. Directing people to the Swim Safe registration desk. Skills required: Good Influencing, tack and diplomacy skills Friendly and approachable Enthusiastic and motivated Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment Training and Support Training to fulfil your volunteer role will be provided if required. The ASA will provide a reference for you if requested. Please not a DBS check will be carried out on all volunteers who require it for their role.
