Online registration begins Wednesday August 5th at 5:00 AM for most classes. 2. Mail-in registration must be postmarked and will be processed at random. 3. No notification will be given unless class is cancelled or full. 6. Classes may be cancelled due to lack of enrollment. Fees will be returned. 7. Inclement Weather Policy When Arlington Public Schools have a delayed opening the Club will open at 11:30 AM and conduct afternoon and evening programs as scheduled. When Arlington Public Schools are closed the Club will ATTEMPT to open at 11:30 AM and conduct afternoon programs weather permitting. 3 SPECIAL EVENTS SPECIAL EVENTS Special Events Fall Family Festival October 9th at 5:30 PM Join us for the 5th Annual Fall Family Festival featuring short movies, face painting, pumpkin decorating, balloon art & a moon bounce. Festivities will run 5:30-8:00pm. Bring your taste buds & participate in the 5th Annual Chili Cookoff. Tickets are $1 each for food and prices range from $1 to $3. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza and baked goods available for purchase. Chili Cookoff October 9th All interested parties are required to complete and submit a signed copy of the rules and registration form with the entry fee of $10 by October 6th. No late registrations will be accepted. Space is limited and entries will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Prize for first place will be given to the Chili that receives the most votes. 37th Annual Golf Classic Winchester Country Club Monday October 19th: The day includes eighteen holes of golf at Winchester Country Club with cart, lunch, buffet supper and golf memento bag. All proceeds from the tournament will go directly to support youth programs at the Club. Our programs help young people succeed in school, stay healthy, learn important life skills, pursue interests in the arts, sports and explore vocational choices. Winter Brochure Cover Photo Contest Calling all photographers: The club is looking for a picture for the front cover of the Winter 2015 Brochure. Pictures should include children and or scenery that depict the fun of Winter. First Prize will be $100 gift certificate to the Club! All photos submitted to the contest are the property of the Arlington Boys & Girls Club to use for club purposes only. Photo Requirements: Image must be 2600 pixels wide x 1500 pixels tall or larger. Photos must be submitted to gduddy@abgclub.org by Friday October 2.

4 GENERAL INFORMATION General Info for those 17 & under Annual Child Membership - $25 Memembership is required prior to enrolling in classes. Children ages 6-17 can participate in the supervised Club Kids Program (see Club Kids information on page 3). MEMBERS must bring their card and check in each time they come to the Club. Members may bring a guest (must be 8 years of age). Guests 8-17 years are $5. Guests must be accompanied by a current member. Limit of 1 visit before membership required. Membership Benefits: Family Swim Tuesdays 10:30-11:15 AM (limited 25 people), Fridays 5:30-6:15 PM or 6:15-7:00 PM (limited to 75 people) Open to all members and immediate family. Children must be accompanied by a parent in the water. One person in the family must be a current member of the club. Suggested admission is a donation to the Arlington Food Pantry. No Swim October 9. Parent Tot Connection Ages 1-4 This drop in playgroup meets on Fridays from 9:30 to 11 AM. An adult must attend. The program provides participants an opportunity to play together and with others. Age appropriate activities including music and movement and crafts will be offered each week. This program is offered with support from Thom Mystic Valley Early Intervention. Begins Friday September 25. No play group on October 30 & November 27. Tot Seasonal Parties Members can join in seasonal celebrations held on Friday October 30 and December 18 at 10 am. Featuring a sing along and special crafts. Adult supervision is required. 5 CLUB KIDS PROGRAM INFORMATION Club Kids Information A yearly non-refundable membership fee of $25 is required of all members. This fee allows members ages 6-17 access to the Club during Club hours to participate in daily games, learning center, tournaments, open gym, free swim and special events. Membership fees are renewable one year from date of purchase. Members, ages 6-17, are supervised at the Club. The Club has an open door policy, which means members may go in and out of the building as they please. Parents should limit how far their children can stray from the Club. Children not mature enough to handle this responsibility should enroll in other programs with direct supervision. Please refer to our website at for a monthly calendar of activities and events. This Boys & Girls Club of America program strives to improve the overall health of Club member s ages 6-17 by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships. Triple Play activities will be held Tuesday - Saturday. CLUB KIDS PROGRAM INFORMATION Club Kids Questions Ages 6-17: 1. Are my children Safe? There are staff members located in all program areas. All Staff have background checks performed annually and have CPR and first aid training. 2. Can my child go outside? While participating in Club sponsored programs and activities, members age 6-17 are supervised by Club staff and volunteers. However, the Club has an open door policy, which means that any member may enter or exit the building as they please during open hours. The club relies on parents to set appropriate limits and grant permission to be on Club grounds. It is imperative that you establish and enforce rules about whether your chidren may leave the Club alone, or with other children. If your children are not allowed to leave the Club alone or with others, please plan to come inside the Club to pick up your children. The Club cannot be responsible for children prior to their arrival at the Club or if they voluntarily leave the Club. 3. What should my child bring to the Club? Children should bring a bathing suit, towel and a snack or money for snacks. Snack machines and drink machines are available. If your child brings money please check the money in at the bank at the front desk. Money can be taken out as needed. Please take all money out at the end of the day. 4. What shouldn t my child bring to the Club? Please do not bring PSPs, Ipods, Game Boys or any other expensive items. The Club is not responsible for lost items. 6 CLUB KIDS PROGRAM INFORMATION Project Learn Project Learn reinforces the academic enrichment and school engagement of young people during the time they spend at the Club. This is funded by a grant from the Cummings Foundation $100K for 100 program. Through Project Learn, Club staff use all the areas and programs in the Club to create opportunities for these high yield learning activities, which include reading and writing activities, discussions with knowledgeable adults, helping others, homework help, tutoring and games that develop young people s cognitive skills. Project Learn also encourages collaboration between Club and school professionals and parents in creating the best after-school learning environment for Club members ages 6 to 17. Project Learn Program Descriptions High-yield activities (HYAs) provide youth with fun experiences that are hands-on, interactive and intentionally develop critical thinking or other skills. Money Matters promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members ages by building their basic money management skills. Power Hour: Making Minutes Count helps Club members ages 6-17 achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring and high-yield learning activities and encouraging members to become self-directed learners. Diplomas to Degrees (d2d): This program provides a range of services to guide teens as they work toward high school graduation and prepare for post-secondary education and career success. Dec 2 Goals for Chinese food dinner, 6-7 PM. SMART Girls is a small-group health, fitness, prevention/ education and self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of girls. Club Tech was created to ensure that youth of all ages and circumstances have access to the same resources and skills to help them discover their world; expand creativity; perform better in school; and eventually take their technology knowhow into the workplace. Youth Swim Classes Swim Class Registration: limited to one swim class per session. 1. A waitlist will be established once classes are filled. 2. Participants must be at least six years of age to register for youth level classes. Locker Room Safety Rules 1. Food, gum, beverages and glass items are NOT allowed. 2. Do NOT stand on the benches. 3. NO Running or Chasing in the Locker Room. 4. Shower before entering the pool. 5. Use of a cell phone in any of the locker room areas is NOT allowed. 6. The Club is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items. 7. Report all losses or injury to the Front Desk Staff. 8. Please help to keep our locker rooms looking great by picking up after yourself. 9. All contents removed daily from lockers will be held for period of up to two weeks; unclaimed items will be given to charity. 10. Lockers may not be used to store items overnight. Personal locks will be cut off and discarded and items will be confiscated. Locker Room access 1. Children five years of age or younger may enter the locker room of the opposite gender. 2. Children age six or older are not allowed in the locker room of the opposite gender; the family changing room is available. 3. Children age six or older may enter the appropriate locker room without adult supervision. 4. Use of family changing room is encouraged; please see front desk staff for key to use the family changing room. Family Changing Room Policies YOUTH SWIM CLASSES 1. Priority use for the Family Changing Rooms is for families with young children of the opposite sex of the parent, who cannot utilize the locker rooms to assist their children in changing into swim gear. 2. 9 YOUTH SPORTS CLASSES Intramural Swim Team Ages 6-12 This is a great option for children ages 6-12 that want a swim team experience. Choose from either the Mystic Valley Marlins or Broadway Barracudas. Each team will feature stroke development & refinement, turn/diving drills, timed swims and Wacky Water Sports. Two swim meets are scheduled, dates TBA. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards of the pool. Children learn self-respect, respect for others and their surroundings, and a love for learning. We are licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and our staff members are experienced, EEC-certified, and trained in first aid/cpr. Our classrooms are bright, self-contained, and air conditioned with a beautiful view overlooking Spy Pond. All programs include water adjustment in the club s heated pool, regularly scheduled times in the expansive gymnasium, and an introduction to computers in the learning center using age-appropriate software. Outside play areas include a private fenced in playground, a basketball court and ball fields adjacent to the club. ABC Preschool offers a variety of schedules at affordable prices. These include two, three, and five day preschool programs and a pre-k program which meets five days a week.
