1 Newsletter April 2018 Poland Swim Club, Inc. * PO Box 5127 * Poland, OH * President s Message Who s ready for summer? Right now it looks a lot like winter rather than spring. Sunshine and higher temperatures will be here before you know it. The PSC officers are ready to get this season started! I d like to take a moment to say thank you to our exiting board member and coaches, Kim Brant, Anthony Lattanzio, Rocky Jeswald, and Lauren Pepperney. Thank you all for everything you ve done for our swim club. You guys will be missed! Vicky Kindinis will be taking over our membership duties, and Bob OBruba be taking over landscaping and maintenance at the club. As many of you know, Poland hosted the YSL League Championships last July. It was a huge success! We did receive numerous compliments and thank you s from other swim clubs regarding how smoothly everything ran. A huge thanks goes out to everyone who helped make this event happen. We couldn t have done it without you! As successful as champs was for our club that s not to say we didn t have Welcome to Summer 2018!! some hurdles to overcome. The pool pump did fail toward the end of the summer which forced us to close for a few days. Thankfully Morrone Mechanical was there to help get it fixed and get our pool back opened. I am so happy to see that our swim and tennis team is expanding. It s awesome to watch all the young swimmers and tennis players compete! If you haven t yet, please consider signing up for one of our teams or both. Check out the newsletter for registration details. Our social calendar was pretty full last summer. S'mores galore made a triumphant return as well as the family movie night. Both of events were well attended. We did host a new event, an adult only social night, The PSC Cook Off. Each member prepared their best dish and brought it to share with those in attendance. We also had a live band that helped make this night one to remember. If you haven t been able to make it to any of the special events, take a look in the newsletter. We already have the dates set. We d love to see you there! We are always trying to improve the look of the club. We purchased the rest of the lounge chairs and umbrellas. We did buy some soccer nets, as well as new tennis nets, for the kids enjoyment. We did add a gas grill in the main pavilion. It can be used anytime, so bring the hot dogs and hamburgers and fire it up. I d like to see our Poland Swim Club family grow. We have wonderful things to offer our members. Go ahead and start making plans to attend our various family events and book your babysitters now for our adult only cook off. 2 Newsletter - April 2018 Pay Annual Dues By May 15 All annual dues payments are due by May 15. The 2018 Dues Statement was sent in the mail in April. If you did not receive it, you may complete the last page of this newsletter, or send your name, certificate number, mailing address and address along with your check payable to the Poland Swim Club to: Noelle Matiste, Treasurer, P.O. Box 5127, Poland, Ohio Please refer to the bylaws for information on consequences if annual dues, including any late fee assessments, are not paid by July 1st. Club Financial Statements Any member who wishes to receive electronic copies of the financial statements through March 31 should send an request to PSC Secretary (carrie_ogden@yahoo.com). These documents are intended for members use only. Membership Information Welcome to all the new members who have joined PSC since the close of the 2017 swim season! Our 2018 season begins Saturday May 26th and ends Labor Day Sept.3rd. Operating hours are from 12 noon to 9pm daily. The Toddler Pool opens at 10am. New members can join for a $300 initiation fee, $800 stock fee, and annual dues. Help spread the word to your friends and family so we can fill our openings and fulfill our membership goals. We had a successful season last year with a significant increase in new members - let's do it again this year! Any member wishing to sell their membership will need to provide their stock certificate, signed and dated on the back. If you are unable to locate your original stock certificate, you will need to provide a notarized letter stating your intent to sell and including your full name(s) and membership number. This information should be mailed to Vicki Kindinis, 7765 Eastbrooke Trail, Poland, Ohio Please submit any stock certificates before May 15th (the deadline for annual dues). Please be aware that you have the option to sell your stock privately as opposed to through the swim club. Contact Vicki Kindinis as listed above with any questions. 3 Newsletter - April 2018 Pool Hours Opening Day May 26!! - 12pm-9pm Normal Daily Hours - 4pm-8pm Reduced Hours (May 29, 30, 31, Jun 1, 4, 5, Aug 20-24, 27-31) - Toddler Pool opens at 10am daily - Friday Night Lights! 11pm Closing! (Jun/Jul) - Sundays Float Night! Starting at 5pm - 4pm Closing: Adult Event * Aug 10-4pm Closing: (Home Swim Meet): * June 20, 27, July 3, 25 Closing Day - Sept 3 Guest Fees Guests (local or out-of-town) are charged $5 per person per visit or $20 per family when accompanied by a member, and are limited to six visits per season. House guest families of four or more can purchase a family guest ticket for $20 per week. Local grandchildren passes may be obtained. These allow each grandchild 14 visits per season with a charge of $5 per visit. Grandparents must accompany their grandchildren. Guests will not be admitted unless the member signing them in is at the pool. Party Pavilion Rentals Party Pavilion Rentals are $75 for members and $150 for non-members. All fees must be prepaid in order to reserve the pavilion. Staffing We re pleased to welcome back returning Pool Managers and Lifeguards for the 2018 Season. It s always great to start the season fully staffed with experienced and committed people! Swim Team April 23: Swim Suit & Tennis Uniform Try-On Monday, April 23 is the first of two opportunities to sign up for the Swim Team, but this day is the only opportunity to try on team suits for swim. We will be using a new suit this season. Swim Team Registration Dates Our registration procedure remains as last year with two in-person registration dates. The times and locations are as follows: Monday April pm Poland Presbyterian Church ** You can also register for Tennis Saturday May am Poland Library, Cafe Please complete the PDF on the following page or download the swim team registration form at PolandSwimClub.com (look for Swim Team tab) and bring your completed form and check to registration. Or mail to: Tammy Sabrin, 4595 Olde Charted Trail, Poland, OH, The cost of registration is $50 per swimmer (Maximum of $140 per family). This includes a swim team T-shirt. Late registration (after May 15) is $55 (Maximum of $155 per family). Parents should indicate their preferred committee assignment on the registration form. As in the past, we will do our best to honor these requests. The fee in lieu of volunteering at meets is $100. Parents Meeting: June 3 Sunday June 3 is the date of the Swim Team and Tennis Team Parent Meetings. The tennis team meeting takes place at 5 p.m.; swim team meeting at 6 p.m. If you have any questions regarding the aquatics program, please feel free to contact one of us. 5 Tennis Ladies Tennis There will be ladies round-robin tennis every Tuesday starting May 29 at 7pm for a fun, social, noncompetitive evening. All Ladies interested in the league should contact LISA LASKO AT OR DIANA EDWARDS AT Ladies team Tennis practices are Monday and Wednesday at 11 am starting May 30. Matches are Thursday mornings. There is a one time fee of $5. Men s Tennis Men's Night is Monday evenings at 6:30pm starting June 4. This is a non-competitive, social evening of round- robin tennis. Mixed Doubles Tennis Mixed Doubles Tennis is a non-competitive evening where all levels are welcome. Matches take place Sunday evenings at 6pm. Tyro Tennis Tyro tennis is a class that uses special equipment designed for their developmental abilities. Tyro Tennis is a version of tennis designed for children that uses large, slow-moving foam balls, smaller racquets, lower nets and smaller courts. Each lesson will focus on agility, balance, coordination and speed. Students will need to wear tennis shoes, bring a racquet, and bring a cold drink. Parents of 5 yr olds are asked to stay nearby during the lesson. Newsletter - April 2018 Uniform Try-On and Registration April 23 We will have a uniform try-on Monday, April 23 at the Poland Presbyterian Church from 5 to 7 p.m. You ll find us in a room next door to the swim team try- on. You will be able to order and purchase your uniform at this time. The uniforms, which are optional, are the same as last year. You may also register for tennis at this time. Parents Meeting: June 3 The Parents meeting is Sunday June 3 at 5pm before swim team in the Tennis Pavilion. Team Tennis 1. A fee of $50 for the first child/$45 each additional child, completed signup form and emergency medical information is required before the first match. 2. Children are permitted to play YTL matches as long as they can get their serve in consistently and can keep score. 3. Challenge matches will help the coaches determine their position on the roster for YTL matches. 4. The day before each scheduled YTL match, the coaches will let you know if you are playing and what time you need to be there. 5. In case of RAIN : we will use REMIND ME to send text messages regarding rain delays or cancellations. Tennis courts can dry within 15 minutes after rain. We will often wait until min before a practice to cancel, so please DO NOT CONTACT us asking about a cancellation or rain delay. If you have not received a message, it means that we are still try to determine the playability of the courts. Even if a light rain occurs, clay courts are playable. Challenge Matches We will be working on Challenge matches June 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. All players will play each other in their age and gender group. At the June 3 meeting we will give all players a Practice schedule, Challenge match schedule and Match schedule. Six half hour sessions will be Monday and Wednesday at 10:30 am: JUNE 11 THRU JUNE 27. CLASS FEE IS $30 PLEASE PAY AT FIRST SESSION OR BEFORE AT TENNIS MEETING ON JUNE 3 AT 5PM.
