That s what you and your friends can have at the Poland Swim Club in 2015! We are again hard at work putting together the behind the scenes work for a smooth opening and a great summer. New faces on the board include: Kim Brant, Kiersten Lattanzio, Stav Diamandis, Carrie Ogden and Michelle Elia. They have jumped in with new ideas and a great work ethic...welcome! Our manager, Joe Paris, and his staff of Jake Corbett and Nicole Petro will man the organization of the pool once again. The club will open on Saturday May 23th, Memorial Day weekend at 12:00 noon (10am for the toddler pool) and be open to Labor Day. We will make some adjustments to the hours as the school's schedule is announced. We did implement some new ideas that we will continue this year. The first one is a Club Clean-Up Day, this is set for Saturday May 2nd from If we need to do another one, the following Saturday will be used. If we get a great turnout, we won't need to come back. We will also have some adult socials that we are getting together and Friday Night Lights, where we will keep the pool open to 11:00 each Friday night, weather permitting. Message from the President Our outstanding swim and tennis teams will again be led by our returning coaches with years of experience and knowledge. So look to sign up your kids for excitement and fun. We are always open for suggestions so don't hesitate to fill a form out and submit to us. We will have a tennis players council so that we make sure their needs are met this year. To help offset the rising costs of maintenance, chemicals and an increase in the sales tax rate and minimum wage rate, we are raising our dues to a total of $ /Family, $390.00/Couple, $280.00/Single and $235.00/Senior. Thanks for your understanding. We are still one of the best bargains in town. Over the past several months, the board has discussed the opportunity of selling off some land that is not being utilized by the club. We do not anticipate any future PSC development on this land. In addition, I cannot recall a time when this land has been used for anything except some overflow parking once or twice a year. We would save in excess of $1500 per year in taxes and land maintenance. This money would benefit the club in numerous ways in the years to come. Please make sure to submit your vote by April 27th. In the past two years over $11,000 has been raised from our Annual Wine Taste. The monies have been spent on a new fence, landscape rock, and shade for the baby pool. This year we hope to add a slide for the kids' enjoyment. The hard work and dedication of the wine taste committee is a prime example of paying forward in our community. The following members made up the committee for the past two years: Beth Bodine, Tammy Sabrin, Kim Brant, Stephanie Hann, Jacey Henderson, Chris Eich and myself. Now it is time for a new group to step up and continue this tradition. Please contact any board member or former wine taste committee member to see where you can fit in. 2 Pay Annual Dues by May 15 All annual dues payments are due by May 15. The 2015 Dues Statement was sent in the mail in April. If you did not receive it, you may complete the last page of this newsletter, or send your name, certificate number, mailing address and address along with your check payable to the Poland Swim Club to: P.J. Canter, Treasurer, P.O. Box 5127, Poland, Ohio Please refer to the bylaws for information on consequences if annual dues, including any late fee assessments, are not paid by July 1st. Club Financial Statements Any member who wishes to receive electronic copies of the financial statements through March 31 should send an request to PSC Secretary, Carrie Ogden These documents are intended for members use only. Membership Information Newsletter Welcome to all of the new members who have joined PSC since the close of the 2014 swim season! Our 2015 season begins Saturday May 23th and ends Labor Day Sept.7th. Operating hours are from 12 noon to 9pm daily. The Toddler Pool opens at 10am. We are excited to announce that we are running the "no initiation fee" special again this year. The $1000 initiation fee is being waived once again. New members can join for a $100 application fee, $800 stock fee, and annual dues. Help spread the word to your friends and family so we can fill our openings and fulfill our membership goals. Any member wishing to sell their membership will need to provide their stock certificate, signed and dated on the back. If you are unable to locate your original stock certificate, you will need to provide a notarized letter stating your intent to sell and including your full name(s) and membership number. 3 Pool Hours Opening Day May 23 Sept 7 12pm-9pm Daily (Toddler Pool opens at 10am daily) 7pm closing: May May 31-June 4 June 7-9 4pm closing on Home Swim Meet Days: June 17, July 1, 8, 22 Guest Fees Guests (local or out-of-town) are charged $5 per person per visit or $20 per family when accompanied by a member, and are limited to six visits per season. House guest families of four or more can purchase a family guest ticket for $20 per week. Local grandchildren passes may be obtained. These allow each grandchild 14 visits per season with a charge of $5 per visit. Grandparents must accompany their grandchildren. Swim Team April 27: Swim Suit & Tennis Uniform Try-On Monday, April 27 is the first of two opportunities to sign up for the Swim Team but this day is the only opportunity to try on team suits for swim. We will be using a new suit this season. Swim Team Registration Dates Our registration procedure remains as last year with two in-person registration dates. The times and locations are as follows: Monday April 27 Saturday May p.m. Poland Presbyterian Church 9-11 a.m. Poland Library Please complete the PDF on the following page or download the swim team registration form at PolandSwimClub.com (look for Swim Team tab) and bring your completed form and check to registration. Late registration (after May 15) is $45 (Maximum of $135 per family). Parents should indicate their preferred committee assignment on the registration form. As in the past, we will do our best to honor these requests. The fee in lieu of volunteering at meets is $100. Parents Meeting: May 31 Sunday May 31 is the date of the Swim Team and Tennis Team Parent Meetings. The tennis team meeting takes place at 5 p.m.; swim team meeting at 6:00 p.m. We are very pleased to announce that head coach Kendra Paul is returning as well as assistant head coach Kelli Hunter and assistant Anthony Lattanzio. 5 Tennis Ladies Tennis There will be ladies round-robin tennis every Tuesday starting May 26 at 7 p.m. for a fun, social, non-competitive evening. All ladies interested in the Penn-Ohio competitive league should contact Lisa Lasko at or Diana Edwards at Ladies Team Tennis practices are Monday and Wednesday at 11 a.m. starting May 27. Matches are Thursday mornings. There is a one-time fee of $5. Men s Tennis Men s night is Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. starting June 1. 1 This is a non-competitive, social evening of round-robin tennis. Mixed Doubles Tennis Mixed Doubles Tennis is a non-competitive evening where all levels are welcome. Matches take place Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. Get your beach body here: Did you know you can burn 600 calories per hour with Cardio Tennis? Cardio Tennis is a fun, social, group tennisfitness program for people of all ages and abilities. It s more about getting a full body, high-energy workout than pure tennis technique. You don t have to be Serena or Rafael to enjoy an energizing workout of Cardio Tennis! Constant movement is the focus as Coach Noah guides you through a series of fun and heart-pumping drills that cater to all abilities and fitness levels. No tennis experience is necessary. This program is designed for players of all levels, from total beginners to advanced players. If you like exercising in a group, then you will find Cardio Tennis the perfect motivator. Tuesdays 10-11am 11am Fee: $36 Six sessions: June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 July 7 Evening: Wednesdays 6:30pm Fee: $18 Three sessions: June 3, 10, 17 Book reservations and remit class fee before June 2 to Coach Noah Weiss (330) Junior Tennis Our head tennis coach, Noah Weiss, is returning along with our assistant coaches Lindsay Kirkland-Olsen and Anthony Ricciardi. They bring many years of experience to our program and enjoy working with kids and adults. Each year, our program continues to advance the level of play and enjoyment of the game of tennis. Youth Tennis Clinics (ages 8 and up) Learn tennis basics. One hour clinics will be every Monday and Thursday at 3pm beginning June 11. No sign-up needed, pay as you go, $7 per clinic. Tyro Tennis (5-7-year-old). This class uses special equipment designed for their developmental abilities. Tyro Tennis is a version of tennis designed for children that uses large, slow-moving foam balls, smaller racquets, lower nets and smaller courts. Each lesson will focus on agility, balance, coordination and speed. Racquets will be provided. Students will need to wear tennis shoes and bring a cold drink. Parents of 5 year olds are asked to stay nearby during the lesson. Six half-hour sessions will be Monday and Wednesday at 10:30 am, June 15 thru July 1. Class Fee: $30 Book reservations and remit class fee before June 15 to Coach Noah Weiss (330) Team Tennis Few sports can compete with tennis in delivering overall physical, mental and emotional benefits. Teaching kids how to play tennis can also teach them to: develop a proper work ethic; be able to manage mistakes and failure; accept responsibility; manage adversity; handle; learn teamwork; and develop social skills. All these benefits make tennis the ideal sport for kids to learn early in life. Typically, lessons from a tennis instructor cost $40 per hour. The cost of learning on the PSC Tennis Team is less than you will see anywhere else. Don t miss this unique opportunity to learn the lifelong sport of tennis. Uniform Try-On April 27 We will have a uniform try-on Monday, April 27 at the Poland Presbyterian Church from 5 to 7 p.m. You ll find us in a room next door to the swim team tryon. You will be able to order and purchase your uniform at this time. The uniforms, which are optional, are the same as last year. Parents Meeting: May 31 Newsletter The Parents Meeting with Coach Noah Weiss is Sunday, May 31 at 5 p.m. in the tennis pavilion. We will go over the challenge week rules and answer questions. Two-Week Pre Season Practice There will be practice with Coach Noah beginning Tuesday, May 26 through Wednesday, June 10 after school from 4-5 p.m. for players 12 & under and from 5-6 p.m. for players over age 12. Please try to attend when you can. We will begin team try-outs and challenge matches during the week of June 1st. Challenge Matches We will be working on Challenge Matches June 1 thru June 10. All players will play each other within their age and gender group. The final day for finishing Pre -Season Challenge Matches will be June 11. The weekly Challenge Matches will be held on Wednesdays this year with the first one on June 17.

Co Auditor s Market Value $23,480 Lot # (0.362 acres, zoned duplex housing-mah. Co Auditor s Market Value $22,660) These lots cost the club $1,100 per year in taxes and $500 in lawn maintenance expenses. The proposal is that the lots be offered for sale for 90 days at current market value; be sold to the highest bidder; and not be sold for an amount less than the current Mahoning County Auditor s Market Value. At the discretion of the Board of Directors, any unsold lot(s) could be offered for sale under this directive for a period of 5 years. Ballot The proceeds would be used for improvement of the club facilities and replacement of old equipment. The reduction of space would still leave a strip of land approximately 10 feet along the edge of the parking lot as well as a very large lawn area to the East of the hard surface. Club Bylaws require that major decisions to be approved by two-thirds of the ballots cast, and a minimum number of ballots representing 20 percent of the membership should be cast.
