2 2011 Tennessee Junior Livestock Exposition was 40 th Consecutive The 2011 Tennessee Junior Livestock Exposition was the 40 th annual one. Four hundred ninety nine (499) 4 H and FFA members from 66 Tennessee counties exhibited 1573 cattle and sheep in Junior livestock events. Junior exhibitors competed in 198 different competitions and activities. This included the exhibition of Cattle, Market Steer Roundup, Top Ten Carcass, Sheep, as well as competition in Showmanship, Premier Exhibitor and Skillathon in both cattle and sheep areas. In addition, a public speaking and wool show were available for the sheep exhibitors. The beef events were held at the Tennessee Livestock Center, in Murfreesboro, July 5 7 and the sheep events were conducted at Hyder Burks Pavilion at Cookeville, July Following are brief narratives of the various shows and the winners. 6 Top Ten Market Steer Carcass Awards As the steers were weighed for the show, they were ultrasounded for carcass traits and were also visually evaluated by livestock market specialists for dressing percent and internal fat. These values were used to determine carcass value. The exhibitors of the top ten carcasses are listed below. 11 Registered Junior Beef Heifer Show July 7, 2011 Number of Counties: 51 Number of Animals Exhibited: 350 Number of Exhibitors: 173 The Registered Beef Heifer Show was conducted July 7 at the Tennessee Livestock Center, Murfreesboro, Tennessee. One hundred seventy three (173) Tennessee 4 H and FFA members from 51 counties exhibited 350 heifers. Fourteen breeds were exhibited in the show. 22 Sheep Show Totals Total Number of Counties: 42 Total Number of Animals Exhibited: 955 Total Number of Exhibitors: 253 The Sheep events of the 2011 Tennessee Junior Livestock Exposition consisted of a Registered Breeding Ewe Show, in which 13 different breeds were exhibited, a Commercial Ewe Show and a Market Lamb Show, a Wool Show and a public speaking contest.
