Third Place The top Freshman in the Nation, according to both Flo and Intermat, will be competing in the Keystone State this season as Beau Bartlett takes on the National Prep scene at Wyoming Seminary. Bartlett spent much of his childhood in Arizona but has strong ties to Pennsylvania. His father grew up in Pennsylvania and in 2014 Beau and his family moved to Kingston, PA where he enrolled at the Wyoming Seminary Lower School. Competing for the X-Caliber Wrestling Club the youth star continued to impress on the mat representing Team Pennsylvania. In 2015 Beau was simply perfect winning nearly every tournament

8 3 he entered. After finishing as a runner-up the previous two seasons Beau grabbed a Tulsa Nationals Championship at 101 lbs. and followed it up with a Schoolboy Pennsylvania State Championship in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman. The next feat Bartlett captured is considered one of the most significant achievements in a youth career; the USA Wrestling National Championship Triple Crown. The first leg was the USAW Folkstyle Schoolboy Nationals that he captured in sudden victory over Jacob Dado of Illinois. The second and third legs of the Triple Crown came slightly easier for Beau as he won all five matches in Freestyle by tech-fall without surrendering a single point. In Greco-Roman Bartlett earned three falls and a tech-fall en route to winning the Triple Crown Championship for the first time in his youth career. After finishing as the Super 32 Runner-up in 2014 Bartlett continued his dominance in 2015 capturing the Championship title with three falls, a major decision, and a tech-fall in the finals at 120 lbs. Beau Bartlett became a household name in January 2016 when the eighth grader turned heads at the Eastern States Classic when he dominated his way to a Championship at 113 lbs. Competing against high school wrestlers Beau picked up two falls and three technical-falls to advance into the finals where he faced Nationally ranked Tommy Cox. Bartlett downed Cox, a N.C. State recruit and 2016 New York State Champion, by a (12-5) score. Following the Championship Wyoming Seminary head coach Scott Green stated Beau Bartlett was the best wrestler in the gym which is an incredible compliment considering New York studs Yianni Diakomihalis and Vito Arujau were present. When asked about Bartlett s rookie season coach Green asserted Beau will step into our line-up immediately with the expectation that he will compete for a National Title. He is a tireless worker and a student of the sport. I can't imagine anyone more prepared for their high school career than Beau, and we are thrilled to have him joining us every weekend. Slated to compete at 120 lbs. this season Bartlett will be one of the top wrestlers in the Nation and as coach Green stated he will compete for a National Prep Championship. 2. Sam Hillegas North Hills District: 7 South West 120 lbs. Projected 17 Finish: PIAA State Medalist 2016: Phil Portuese NE Regional Freestyle (Cadet) 120 lbs. Runner-up 2010: PJW Area VII Tournament (8 & Under) 55 lbs. Champion A very close second follows up Bartlett with the most accomplished Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling freshman on the list. Sam The Bull Hillegas is a six-time PJW State Champion winning a title every year since Sammy s feats don t stop on the State level as he is a 3x Super 32 Middle School Champion capturing his first Championship in 2012 as a fifth grader. After finishing third in 2013 he bounced back to win back-to-back Super 32 Middle School Championships in 2014 and Hillegas got a taste of high school competition in October 2016 competing in the Super 32. In Greensboro, NC he knocked off senior PIAA State Medalist in Gavin Park (Brookville Area) and also earned revenge on the opponent who sent him into the consolations when he downed Lucas Revano (New Jersey) turning around a (5-3) defeat into a (3-2) victory. The Bull narrowly missed a spot in the top eight falling to Ryan Anderson (Bethlehem Catholic) in the blood-round (5-3). In 2015 Hillegas competed in the USAW Schoolboy Freestyle Nationals at 105 lbs. and finished third. At the Ohio Tournament of Champions Sam is a 4x Champion in the prestigious event in addition to owning a 2011 MAWA Eastern National Championship. Competing for North Hills High School in the WPIAL Sam may not be faced with an overwhelming schedule but the rookie will still be tested. Hillegas trains with the Quest School of Wrestling and head coach Jim Ackerly who himself was a 5x PJW State Champion. 4x PIAA State Medalist Gage Curry of North Hills is now down at American University and Sam will be a nice replacement in the light-weights. I expect Hillegas to end his rookie season with a PIAA State Medal and should push the top talent for a State Championship. Sam will likely start the season at 120 lbs. and it isn t out of the question if he drops to 113 lbs. for the post-season. Regardless of where he ends up Sam will be a force.

10 5 3. Gerrit Nijenhuis Canon-McMillan District: 7 South West 152 lbs. Projected 17 Finish: PIAA State Qualifier 2016: PJW State Tournament (Junior High) 147 lbs. Runner-up 2012: PJW Area IV Tournament (9 & 10) 90 lbs. Champion 2011: Ohio Tournament of Champions (Midget) 85 lbs. Champion 2011: PJW Area IV Tournament (9 & 10) 75 lbs. Champion 2010: PJW State Tournament (8 & Under) 70 lbs. Runner-up 2010: PJW Area IV Tournament (8 & Under) 70 lbs. Champion 2009: Ohio Tournament of Champions (Bantam) 72 lbs. Third Place #3 is Canon-McMillan stud Gerrit Nijenhuis who is a 5x PJW State Finalist and 2x PJW State Champion. In 2016 at the PJW State Championship Nijenhuis dominated the 147 lbs. bracket picking up two first periods falls, two technical-falls, and a (10-0) major decision in the Finals. It was not unlike 2015 when Gerrit dominated the 132 lbs. Junior High bracket as he earned four total falls in five wins including one in the finals over Scott Joll (Belle Vernon Area). In 2014 competing in the (11 & 12) Division at 115 lbs. Nijenhuis advanced into the State Finals where he faced Carter Starocci (Cathedral Prep) who in 2016 was a PIAA State Medalist his rookie season. Nijenhuis fell in ultimate tie-breaker (1-0) to Starocci. The middle-weight had a tremendous 2015 winning Championships at the PJW State Tournament, The Super 32 Challenge, the POWERade, and went undefeated (8-0) at the Heartland National Duals. In 2016 Gerrit won the prestigious Tulsa Nationals at 145 lbs. and in October 2016 he travelled to Greensboro, NC to compete in the Super 32 High School Tournament. Nijenhuis, although he didn t end up on the podium, had a solid performance competing at 152 lbs. going (3-2). Nijenhuis earned a very impressive decision

11 6 over 3x Florida State Champion and senior Jake Brindley (Lake Highland Prep) score (3-2). Like Hillegas before him Nijenhuis trains with the Quest School of Wrestling and will be competing for the historic WPIAL powerhouse Canon-McMillan. He will be tested early and often with multiple high profile Tournaments on the schedule including the CV Kick-Off Classic, POWERade, and Escape the Rock. 4. Gaige Garcia Southern Columbia Area AA District: 4 North East 170 lbs. Projected 17 Finish: PIAA State Medalist 2016: PJW State Tournament (Junior High) 167 lbs. Champion 2016: PJW Area X Tournament (Junior High) 167 lbs. Champion 2016: NHSCA Nationals (Middle School) 165 lbs. Champion 2014: PJW State Tournament (11 & 12) 100 lbs. Runner-up 2014: PJW Area X Tournament (11 & 12) 100 lbs. Champion 2012: PJW State Tournament (9 & 10) 85 lbs. Champion 2012: PJW Area X Tournament (9 & 10) 85 lbs. Champion 2011: MAWA Eastern Nationals (Midget) 80 lbs. Champion 2011: PJW State Tournament (9 & 10) 75 lbs. Champion 2011: PJW Area X Tournament (9 & 10) 75 lbs. Champion 2010: MAWA Eastern Nationals (Midget) 70 lbs. Third Place 2010: PJW State Tournament (8 & Under) 70 lbs. Runner-up 2010: PJW Area X Tournament (8 & Under) 70 lbs. Champion 2009: MAWA Eastern Nationals (Bantam) 60 lbs. Third Place Gaige Garcia is already making headlines for his efforts on the football field as the freshman is helping to lead the charge for the Southern Columbia Tigers at running back. Garcia has over 1,400 yards on the ground and 25 rushing touchdowns for the 2015 PIAA State Champion program. While Gaige is busy racking up stats on the gridiron he will soon be doing the same on the mat. Garcia has enormous shoes to fill as his father, Mike Garcia, is one of the most accomplished high school wrestlers from Pennsylvania. Garcia, a 1994 graduate of Mount Carmel High School, was a 3x PIAA State Champion recording a (144-9) career record. Known for being a hammer Mike Garcia physically imposed his will on opponents. After finishing in fifth place his freshman season Garcia only lost once in his final three seasons. He would go on to compete for Bucknell and was a 1996 NCAA Qualifier at 150 lbs. Gaige Garcia has already established himself on the mat advancing into five PJW State Tournament Finals with three PJW State Championships to his name. In 2016 Garcia simply destroyed the field en route to the 167 lbs. Championship. In five matches Garcia was only on the mat for a total of (6:46) as he picked up four falls all in under (0:51) seconds including a (0:26) second fall over #20 Dorian Crosby in the State finals. In

12 Garcia was a NHSCA Middle School National Champion and he also owns a MAWA Eastern National Champion. Garcia will attempt to match his father s feat to become a 3x PIAA State Champion and as a rookie will likely finish high on the podium. Depending on where Garcia s weight is following a football season, that could go well into December, Garcia may begin up at 182 lbs. but drop to 170 lbs. for the post-season. 5. Aurelius Dunbar Projected 17 Finish: Mercersburg Academy National Prep PAISAA 145 lbs. National Prep Medalist 2016: PJW State Tournament (Junior High) 140 lbs. Champion 2016: PJW Area IX Tournament (Junior High) 140 lbs. Champion 2016: McDonogh Duals 142 lbs. Record of (7-1) 2015: VACW National Holiday Duals (Middle School) 135 lbs. Third Place 2010: PJW Area IX Tournament (8 & Under) 70 lbs. Champion 2x PJW State Champion Aurelius Dunbar will attend Mercersburg Academy his freshman year and look to make an impact on the National scene straight away. The Greencastle, PA native has made seven trips to the PJW State Tournament finishing in third place three separate times and twice winning a State Championship. The 6x Area IX Champion was a 2015 MAWA Eastern National Champion and Ohio Tournament of Champions winner. Dunbar has continued to improve throughout his youth career and will only get better at Mercersburg with head coach Nathaniel Jacklin. Dunbar will likely compete at 145 lbs. with a possibility of dropping to 138 lbs. for the post-season.

13 8 6. Gage McClenahan Bald Eagle Area District: 6 North West 145 lbs. Projected 17 Finish: PIAA State Medalist 2016: PJW State Tournament (Junior High) 132 lbs. Champion 2010: PJW Area II Tournament (8 & Under) 55 lbs. Champion One of the most accomplished youth wrestlers on the list is 5x Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Champion Gage McClenahan who will compete for the always impressive Bald Eagle Area High School. Gage is a 7x PJW Area II Champion who will make an immediate impact on the State level. McClenahan will join an already stout middle-weight group for first year head coach Ron Guenot Jr. His training partners will include PIAA State Medalist Seth Koleno plus North West Regional Medalist Garrett Rigg. McClenahan has been absolutely flawless in his trips to the PJW State Tournament beginning in 2010 when he won the (8 & Under) State Championship at 55 lbs. In 2016 Gage defeated #12 Luke Nichter in a battle of two PJW State Champions at 132 lbs. winning the bout (7-0). On the National level McClenahan won a 2011 Tulsa National title and in 2015 was a Super 32 Junior High Eighth Place Medalist. He and Koleno will provide a nice one-two-punch in the middle with McClenahan likely competing at 145 lbs. or 138 lbs. The rookie is competing for the Bald Eagle varsity football team where he has made headlines for his tireless play on both sides of the ball. When he switches back to wrestling mode the rookie will be more than capable of earning a spot on the podium in Hershey.

14 9 7. Andrew Cerniglia Nazareth Area District: 11 North East 106 lbs. Projected 17 Finish: PIAA State Medalist 2016: NHSCA National Duals (High School) 109 lbs. Third Place 2014: District XI Tournament (Junior High) 80 lbs. - Champion The Nazareth Blue Eagles will be one of the top teams in the State in 2017 and should be a favorite to finish high in the PIAA State Dual Team Tournament. Much of that will depend on rookie Andrew Cerniglia who projects to be a hammer at 106 lbs. Andrew will only improve in the practice room with work-out partners that include Sean Pierson and Ryan O Grady. Over the last two years Andrew dedicated himself to wrestling all year round and the results are showing. In October 2015 Andrew competed in the Super 32 Junior High Challenge and was the runner-up falling to National youth star Carson Manville, but two months later he earned revenge defeating Manville at the VACW Holiday Duals (7-4). After finishing third in the 2015 PJW Junior Hugh State Tournament Cerniglia cruised to a 2016 PJW State Championship at 102 lbs. The rookie will benefit greatly from the Nazareth Wrestling room and like many Blue Eagles before him he will be in the hunt for hardware come March. 8. Champion One of the biggest names in the 2017 TIF Report is Kaden Cassidy who will be competing for the Bishop McCort Crushers his freshman season. From Bedford, PA the rookie is coming off a shoulder injury that required him to get labrum surgery. Likely out until December Kaden will return to the mat in full force for the first year program Bishop McCort. Cassidy will be tested by the top wrestlers in Pennsylvania and the Nation with a challenging schedule that includes King of the Mountain, POWERade, Escape the Rock, and the Ultimate Duals. Competing at 106 lbs. Kaden will likely be one of the top wrestlers in Class AA and has potential to finish high on the podium. In his youth career Kaden is a 7x PJW Area II Champion and a 6x PJW State Medalist. His sixth medal at the PJW State Tournament culminated in his first State Championship title at 97 lbs. Kaden picked up five victories in his run to the State Championship totaling a (55-4) point margin. He also owns a MAWA Eastern National Championship and was a 2015 USAW Fargo National All-American in Freestyle at 88 lbs. finishing fourth in the Cadet division. The 2x Mountain Conference Junior High Tournament Champion was also a 2015 PAWF State Champion in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman.

Runner-up 2x Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Champion AJ Tamburrino is the first District 1 wrestler on the list coming in at #9. AJ won back-to-back PJW State Championships in 2014 and 2015 but ran into #1 Beau Bartlett in 2016 finishing as the runner-up at 124 lbs. In 2015 Tamburrino knocked off 2016 TIF Jo-Jo Aragona (Delaware Valley) in the semifinals and Nick Coy (Penn Trafford) in the finals. Tamburrino will likely compete at 132 lbs. with the possibility to drop down to 126 lbs. in the post-season. William Tennent s schedule is not the most taxing but Tamburrino will have plenty of time to prove his worth in the post-season. His father Anthony Tamburrino is the head coach at William Tennent and has extensive experience in mixed martial arts. Tamburrino Sr. is also the director and head coach of Xtreme MMA Bucks Country Wrestling Club in Warminster, PA. I think AJ will have a Ryan Vulakh like freshmen season and grind his way to a PIAA State Medal. 10. Jonathan Miers Easton Area District: 11 North East 120 lbs. Projected 17 Finish: PIAA State Qualifier

Champion 2011: MAWA Eastern Nationals (Midget) 66 lbs. Runner-up First year head coach Jamar Billman will benefit from stud freshman Jonathan Miers who enters the historic Easton Area program with a loaded resume. Miers has already made headlines but not the kind you may expect. In July 2016 Lehigh Valley Live s Jim Deegan penned an article highlighting Miers off the mat activities that make him a truly special young man. Jonathan, who wrestles, runs cross country, and plays lacrosse, had been collecting thousands of soda can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Hershey, PA. On the mat Jonathan has proved to be a force steadily improving each and every season. A 4x PJW State Medalist and 2016 PJW State Champion Miers will add to an Easton Red Rover program that has historically produced talented light-weights. Competing in District XI Jonathan was a 2x Junior High Champion and was also a 2x MAWA Eastern National Champion. Miers projects to compete at either 113 lbs. or 120 lbs. during his rookie season and with a strong Easton schedule he will be tested early. 11. Champion 2011: MAWA Eastern Nationals (Midget) 70 lbs. Eighth Place Fans may not be accustomed to the school Saint Joseph Catholic Academy in Boalsburg, PA but they will be following this season. Caleb Dowling will be one of two Top Incoming Freshmen on the roster for head coach Pat Flynn. While only a few wrestlers make up the team that was established in 2013 rookie Caleb Dowling will make an impact along with #25 Evan Courts. In October 2016 Dowling competed in the Lock Haven Fall Classic where he captured the Championship title at 128 lbs. winning in the finals over fellow freshman #39 Kibwe McNair (Methacton) by major decision (12-1). The Juniata native was a 2016 PJW State Runner-up falling in the finals to #2 Sam Hillegas. It was Dowling s fourth time earning a spot on the PJW podium and his highest career finish. Caleb was also a 2013 MAWA Eastern National Champion and has competed in several National dual tournaments. The rookie will likely compete at either 126 lbs. or 120 lbs. this season and will benefit from having work-out partners like Evan Courts and Jacob Powers. Many will call it a stretch to predict a PIAA State Medal from Dowling in 2017 but if he drops to 120 lbs. in the post-season I think he has a solid shot at achieving that feat. 12. Luke Nichter Chambersburg Area District: 3 South Central 145 lbs. Projected 17 Finish: PIAA State Qualifier 2016: War at The Shore (Intermediate) 140 lbs. Runner-up Luke Nichter is a 2x PJW State Champion who will be a middle-weight contender in District 3 as a freshman. He joins a talented Chambersburg program that has been on a steady rise over the last decade. Although the Trojans are losing two TIF in Jack Wimmer and Cody Williams rookie Luke Nichter will make an immediate impact on District 3 and the State. In 2015 Luke won his second straight PJW State Championship capturing the Junior High Division 107 lbs. bracket over Colton Camacho (Franklin Regional) in the finals (6-1). His first State Championship came in 2014 in the (11 & 12) Division at 100 lbs. where he earned a medical forfeit over #4 Gaige Garcia in what would have been an interesting match-up. The 5x PJW Area IX Champion advanced into his third straight PJW State finals in 2016 but fell in the 132 lbs. finals to #6 Gage McClenahan. Nichter, also a 2x War at the Shore Champion, competed in the 2016 Super 32 Challenge at 152 lbs. in the high school division where he went (3-2) against top wrestlers. 13. Champion 2016 PJW State Champion Ed Scott is a strong wrestler who has a ton of upside for a freshman. The DuBois Area wrestler is a 4x PJW State Medalist who earned his first State Championship in 2016 at 107 lbs. Scott, who trains with Young Guns Wrestling Club, defeated youth star Zack Witmer (Bellefonte Area) in the State Finals (3-2). Most recently Ed Scott competed in the Lock Haven Fall Classic at 115 lbs. where he placed second falling to junior Wyatt Lutz (Montoursville Area) in the finals (3-2). On the National level Scott has participated in multiple National dual team tournaments and in 2014 was a USAW Schoolboy National Double All-American finishing fifth in Freestyle and sixth in Greco-Roman. Depending on his growth this season Ed Scott may be able to drop to 106 lbs. for the post-season but is likely to start the season up at 113/120 lbs. Competing in North Carolina at the 2016 Super 32 Ed went (1-2) but was in each match he lost and showed many bright spots. Ed will have several talented work-out partners with 2016 PIAA State Qualifier Dalton Woodrow and junior Kolby Ho. Don t be surprised if Scott ends up on the podium in Hershey. 14. The younger brother of Cody Kievman, a 2016 Lehigh graduate, Connor is an accomplished wrestler who will attend Wyoming Seminary his freshman year. At the PJW State Tournament Connor is a 3x PJW State Champion and in 2016 he was third at 112 lbs. Connor is a talented Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestler picking up multiple PAWF State titles along the way. Kievman will add another layer of depth to the Wyoming Seminary line-up that should compete for a National Prep Title. Connor has grown over the summer and will likely compete at 126 lbs. where he and #1 Beau Bartlett will provide head coach Scott Green with a considerable one-two-punch. 15. All three medalists higher on the podium are all TIF of 2017 ranked in the top 20. Kenny was also a 2015 POWERade Junior High Champion at 113 lbs and will add some much needed strength for head coach Jim Mulligan in the light-weights. 20. Dorian Crosby Cathedral Prep

29 24 Prematurely included on the 2016 TIF Report a year ago Jack Wimmer is now a freshman but it won t be at Chambersburg Area High School and instead The McDonogh School in Maryland. Wimmer has competed significantly in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman over his career. Twice Jack has earned medals in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman at the PAWF State Tournament. The upper weight rookie is a 3x PJW State Medalist including his first State Championship in 2016 at 212 lbs. Wimmer will likely compete at 220 lbs. but may drop to 195 lbs. his rookie season where he will be competing with training partner and friend #35 Cody Williams who also makes the move from Chambersburg to The McDonogh School. Wimmer is an experienced grappler who will be primed for a solid season competing on the National Prep level. 24. Evan Courts Saint Joseph Catholic Academy AA District: 6 South West 138 lbs. Third Place The second wrestler on TIF of 2017 from Saint Joseph Catholic Academy is Evan Courts. He was a 2016 PJW State Junior High Medalist finishing third at 132 lbs. After dropping a (4-0) bout in the semifinals against #12 Luke Nichter the rookie was able to bounce back to finish third earning a default win over #25 Roman Moser. In 2015 Courts was third at both the MAWA Eastern Nationals and POWERade Junior High Tournament. At the prestigious McDonogh Duals Courts went undefeated (8-0) competing at 132 lbs. for Young Guns. He and teammate #11 Caleb Dowling will benefit from each other in the practice room and I expect him to make it through a difficult South West Regional to qualify for the PIAA State Tournament. 25.
