She had a match-high 21 kills and 14 digs in a win over the then 10-1 Huskies while adding three blocks. Obras then followed with 30 kills, 24 digs and four assists in a fivegame win over the Rockets. It was her 11th consecutive kill-dig double-double and marked the third time this year she has posted 30 or more kills. MAC West Division Player of the Week Sept Tera Lobdell, Northern Illinois Sept Sarah Obras, Ball State Sept Tera Lobdell, Northern Illinois Sept Jennifer Nighswander, Eastern Michigan Sept Sarah Obras, Ball State FOUR PERFECT AFTER FIRST WEEKEND: Four teams came away in the first weekend of conference play unblemished, three of which went 2-0. Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Ball State all went 2-0 while Ohio won its lone league match. Only the Cardinals were at home, increasing their homecourt win streak against conference opponents to 57 following victories over Northern Illinois and Toledo. EMU opened 2-0 in the MAC for the third consecutive season and fourth time in the last five years, while WMU is 2-0 for the first time since BSU S OBRAS CONTINUES TO PRODUCE: Ball State s Sarah Obras had another big week for the Cardinals, averaging 6.38 kills, 4.75 digs and 6.75 points per game against Northern Illinois and Toledo. She had a match-high 21 kills and 14 digs against the Huskies, then followed with her second 30-plus kills/ 20-plus digs match of the season vs. Toledo (30 kills and 24 digs) for her 11th straight kill-dig double-double of the season. Only a sophomore, Obras has recorded 793 career kills -- which includes a league-best 295 kills in to rank 15th on BSU s career kills chart. Obras needs just 123 more kills to break into the top 10 in BSU history. HAGEMAN SETS SCHOOL BLOCK MARK: Ohio s Laura Hageman recorded three blocks in the Bobcats win over Marshall and now has 469 in her career which is also 12th all-time in MAC history. That total moves her into first place in school history, eclipsing the 467 mark by Katie Mullen. She is only 10 assisted blocks (365) behind Mullen (375) for that alltime record as well. The block assists total is 13th in league history. AKRON S BLOCKING DUO: The blocking duo of Monica Morlock and Lindsey Sullenberger is starting to pay dividends on the court for Akron. Morlock, who ranks as one of the league s best blockers, has taken the newcomer under her wing and has helped to give the Zips a formidable front court. Morlock led the Zips this past weekend with 13 blocks, with Sullenberger right on her heels with 12 blocks. Morlock is eighth in the league in blocks, averaging 1.14 per game. Over the weekend, Morlock became only the 30th player in MAC history to register 400- plus total blocks. RENNAU TO THE RESCUE FOR BGSU: With the graduation of Kristen Gamby, who is 10th all-time in Bowling Green history with 1,024 kills, the Falcons were looking to find someone to replace the offensive output that Gamby produced. Senior Samantha Rennau has apparently answered that call. In 2002 Rennau had 51 total kills and a.102 hitting percentage. This past week alone Rennau had 32 kills and 25 digs. For the season she has 175 kills and is averaging 3.37 kills per game, which is 14th in the league. KANIM IS ONE WIN AWAY FROM 100: Head coach Mora Kanim needs one more win to become the first Kent State volleyball coach to record 100 wins. In her seventh season at KSU, Kanim has compiled a (.508) coaching record. BRONCOS ENJOY CAREER MATCHES: Western Michigan had a number of career highs and season highs versus Bowling Green. Carman Malone had and Kristy Ramsey each recorded career highs in kills with 25 and 17, respectively, while Schea Fissel

KSU S BUTTS NEARS 2,000 ASSISTS: With seven more assists, sophomore setter Anne Butts will become only the third Kent State player to reach 2,000 assists. She currently ranks third in the MAC with assists per game. Last season, Butts set the KSU single-season assists mark with 1,505 assists as a freshman. KELLER NEARS BSU DIGS RECORD: The digs keep coming for Ball State junior libero Stephanie Keller as she recorded a team-best 60 digs in the Cardinals two matches last week for a 7.50 digs per game average. Her 37 digs vs. Toledo were a career-high -- tied for the ninth highest output in league history -- and marked the fourth time this season she has recorded 30-plus digs in a match. In addition, Keller moved into third on BSU s all-time career digs list with 1,163. She needs just 88 digs to break BSU s all-time record of 1,250 set by Jennifer Schilling. SUCCESS IN NON-CONFERENCE MATCHES: After five weeks of play in the 2003 season, MAC teams were (.565) against non-conference competition. In each of the previous two seasons, the MAC has found success facing non-conference foes. Last year, the league was (.588) against non-mac teams, while in 2001 the conference produced a (.600) mark. NIU HAS FIVE HIT DOUBLE DIGITS: Five different Northern Illinois players reached double-digits in the kill column in the Huskies 3-1 victory over Miami. Of that quintet, three players posted kill-dig doubles-doubles as well led by Tera Lobdell s 15 put-aways and 14 digs -- the junior s eighth doubledouble of the season. Senior Brooke Dodson led the team with 18 kills and added 11 digs while Amanda Newlin chipped in with 15 kills and 10 digs. MIAMI DUO HAS A BLOCK PARTY: Redshirt freshman middle hitter Lauren Slusser and sophomore outside hitter Kristen Walters opened MAC play for Miami averaging 1.29 and 1.14 blocks per game respectively. Each knocked down a career-high six block assists against Northern Illinois. Slusser posted eight block assists and one solo block over the weekend, while Walters notched eight block assists. CMU JOINS THE BLOCK PARTY AS WELL: Freshman Meghan Moore and senior Liz Passen were dominant at the net in last week s matches for Central Michigan. Moore exploded for a career-high 10 blocks on Friday versus Akron. She had a careerhigh three solo and seven block assists. She finished the week with 20 blocks in three matches. Passen had six blocks in each of the conference matches over the weekend. PAIR CONTINUES TO PACE TOLEDO: Sophomore middle blockers Corrie Magnus and Kelsey Culver continue to lead the Rockets offensively while Culver also made some noise defensively over the weekend. Magnus is leading the MAC with a.359 attack percentage, while Culver ranks ninth in the conference with a.298 mark. Culver also is tied for fourth in the MAC in aces per game (0.50) and nearly helped the Rockets pull off an upset at Ball State with 12 blocks to equal the third most in a match in school history. SENIORS HAVE STRONG STRETCH: Marshall seniors Ashley Barnard and Nicole Michal have put together the best five-match stretch of their careers, logging 97 digs and 69 kills, respectively, from the Sept. 19 thru the Sept. 26 match with Ohio. Barnard recorded a career-high 32 digs vs. Morehead State, with Michal s highest kill output of the stretch was a 17-kill night in the home opener vs. Eastern Kentucky. Over that period, Barnard averaged 4.41 digs per game while Michal averaged 3.14 kills, 2.55 digs and 1.00 blocks per game. EMU HAS THE UPPER HAND: Eastern Michigan is dominating the opposition on both sides of the net. The Eagles have outhit their opponents by 120 percentage points (.234 to.114) and is outdigging them by over 2.2 digs per game. EMU, winners of six straight matches, also holds an advantage behind the service line, as they average 2.0 aces per game to just 1.3 for their opponents. The Eagles have also only gone beyond the minimum three-games just three times this season, going 2-1 in those matches.
