1 ober - December A Newsletter and Programme in Middlesbrough and of Health Walks Redcar & Cleveland Hello everyone! On rd ober I will have been the co-ordinator of Healthy Stepping for years - how time flies! May I take this opportunity to thank all of you, old and new, who continue to attend our health walks and for supporting the Walking for Health scheme and helping make it such a popular success. There are many of you still coming along to the walks who were already members and whom I met during the first week in my post! Of course, hundreds more have joined us since then but it s wonderful to see so many of you returning year after year. Between us, over the years, we ve walked thousands of miles to help improve our health and fitness. It s also pleasing to know that so many of you have met new friends through our scheme. After all, the social benefits of the walking groups are just as important as the physical gains. So spread the word and tell as many friends and family members about the Healthy Stepping scheme and how much healthier and happier you are for being part of it! Don Burluraux Health Walks Co-ordinator Health Improvement Service South Tees NHS Foundation Trust Langbaurgh House Bow Street Guisborough TS4 7AA Tel: Mobile: don.burluraux@stees.nhs.uk Need inspiration to walk? Read the stories below If you need more inspiration to go out walking the following quotes are from regular Walking for Health participants: I discovered all the beautiful walks and scenery in the area I had lived in all my life. Not being able to see the lovely views out of my car window, I never knew it existed before. It has been one of the best things I have ever done, I feel like I have found the real me again. Joining my local group has given me the confidence to enjoy all the wonderful green spaces that I didn t even know existed. I feel liberated! I have made lots of lovely new friends. I m healthier, fitter, happier, more confident and finally on the way to losing that last stubborn stone in weight. I love the away day walks and seeing our beautiful local countryside. Now I walk for enjoyment, not just around the supermarket. If an overweight diabetic with high blood pressure, thyroid and cholesterol problems who has had cancer can still walk - there is hope for anyone!
