1 P A G E 1 Chats News M A R C H There is no such thing as away. When we throw anything away it must go somewhere - Annie Leonard Today I sadly packed up an old but solid printer/fax machine that had been sitting in my garage for the last 5 years. It was shiny and sleek and cost $ when it was purchased in It had stopped working and I believed that I would be able to resurrect it when I had the time. Ah that is the magic word 'time'. Where has it gone! I made my way with my treasure to the Recycling centre in Jackson Street, Glenorchy. The tip shop itself is a hoarder s delight. I deposited my shiny printer on the counter in front of a friendly looking guy. He took a look at it and said regretfully I am sorry. Nobody wants printers these days. A new one is so cheap. Feeling thoroughly deflated I carried the printer back to my car. Not wanting to go straight home I decided to investigate the area. I drove past the tip shop and went further up to the landfill. It was nothing like I had expected. No mounts of rubbish. Just miles of bare clean earth with a tiny portion covered with glinting silver. They must be crushed cans I thought. I drove back home and after all the emotional upheaval I had gone through to part with my printer I decided I had to get rid of it. I placed it on the grass verge outside my hedge and went back into my house. Every minute for 5 minutes I kept peering out to see if it had gone. I went to get a glass of water and then came back to my peering spot. Imagine my shock when I realised it had gone! My husband from whom I had saved the printer was absolutely delighted. Here is part of the lyrics of a song I found on the internet. If you're going to the market to buy some juice You've got to bring your own bags and you learn to reduce your waste And if your brother or your sister's got some cool clothes You could try them on before you buy some more of those Reuse, we've got to learn to reuse And if the first two r's don't work out And if you've got to make some trash Don't throw it out Reduce, reuse, recycle ~ Merry The Chats Office Number: For weekend and afterhours transport emergencies call (please note that this phone is only manned when an activity is running) Chats Office: Level 5, Quay Building, 31 Cambridge Rd, Bellerive

4 P A G E 4 Simple strength, balance and flexibility exercises to do at home Have you ever lost your footing on wet or icy footpath causing you to fling your arms in the air and sending your heart into high gear? If you have, then you know how frightening loosing your balance can be. As many as 28% to 45% of older people fall each year due to elderly balance decline as we age. 5 Aromatherapy with Aileen Wright Tuesday 20 March 10.30am - 12noon Lifeline Conference Room Come along and find out about essential oils and what they can do for you. Some essential oils come from seeds while many others are extracted from the leaves of the plant. Because essential oils are so highly concentrated it takes a large amount of plant to produce just one oil. Essential oils are incredibly powerful due to this high concentration, so a little bit goes a long way. Good-quality essential oils are claimed to help with, congestion, memory loss, pain, inflammation, headaches, nausea, killing bacteria, viruses and fungus, stimulating the immune system, skin issues and many more ailments and concerns. U65 Port Arthur Historic Site Port Arthur is a village and historic site in southern Tasmania. Sitting on the Tasman Peninsula, it was a 19th-century penal settlement and is now an open-air museum. Ruins include the huge penitentiary and the remaining shell of the Convict Church, which was built by inmates. Solitary confinement cells in the Separate Prison building were used to inflict mental punishment in place of floggings. Please note that although there are buggies to transport participants around the village, there is a lot of walking/standing involved. (Cost: Free entry, own purchases and $5 co-payment applies) Thursday 15 March, 9am-5pm Lunch at the Port Arthur Historic Site Cafe Dinner at one of Australia's oldest pubs, Ocean Child Inn has been a fixture in Hobart since Perfectly located amongst the city's busiest attractions, it's one minute from the shopping precinct and five minutes from Salamanca and the waterfront area. The Ocean Child has a cool art deco exterior and a nautical-themed interior that give a sense of its heritage. Its bistro serves Moz-Oz pub grub and, of course, the bar is well-stocked..(cost: Own purchases and $5 co-payment applies) Wednesday 28 March, 5pm - 8:30pm Dinner booking: 6pm U65 Ocean Child Inn Chats Taxi Bookings Managing the costs of running the Chats Program can be difficult. One way to help is by using your Transport Access Scheme card in our taxi bookings. These permit the customer to a 50% fare discount which really helps Chats out. In order to be able to use the Transport Access card, the card holder must be in the car on the completion of the fare to receive a discount. If you would be interested in accessing this scheme, you will need to discuss this with your GP. Please let the office know if you have the discount card. Thank you.

There are 2 ducks in front of 2 other ducks. There are 2 ducks behind 2 other ducks. There are 2 ducks besides 2 other ducks. How many ducks are there? Question #2. I have no voice, yet I speak to you. I tell of all things in the world that people do. I have leaves, but I am not a tree. I have pages, but I am not a bride. I have a spine, but I am not a man. I have hinges, but I am not a door. I have told you all. I cannot tell you more. What am I? Question #3. A man is on a game show. There are also two men in front of the doors, and they know which door leads to the millions. One wears a black hat, and the other wears a white hat. The host explains that one of the men is a liar, and will always lie, and the other man will always tell the truth but you do not know which is which. You can ask only one of the men only one question. What is the question, and which man do you ask to ensure you win the money? Answers for the answers, please turn the page upside down Question #4.
