Wieuca Road Survey Question: 4 Narrative Responses QUESTION: 4. We understand that the APS has announced the policy that bus service will not be provided to students living within one mile of the school. (Link to new school's location using Google maps - get driving directions to see how far you are from the new 42 survey respondent comments Respondent #001 (Loridans Dr NBCA member): According to map 1.1 miles but depends on ruling. Respondent #003 (Ivy Knoll NBCA member): School buses should be provided for all students, even if they live within a 1-mile radius of the school, because students and family members would need to cross a very busy road (Wieuca) in order to get to school. Respondent #006 (Wieuca Trce NBCA member): I will have one child who will have to walk to the new school while I wait on Wieuca for another to come home by bus from the old campus. Respondent #010 (Potters Walk NBCA member): The Atlanta School Board needs to make an exception in this case and allow the school bus to pick up all the kids on Loridans from Wieuca to the GA 400 overpass. The bus will pass all these houses and may as well pick up these kids. Respondent #013 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): According to google maps, we live 1.1 miles away. Also, we are not sure whether our children will attend Sarah Smith when they are older, but that was not an option for question #2. Respondent #014 (Stovall Blvd NBCA member): I am concerned about the safety of my child walking down Wieuca to school. There are only sidewalks on the other side of Weiuca so he will have to cross Wiecua, walk to school, and cross back over Wieuca. Respondent #019 (Glengary Dr NBCA member): We live 1 mi from the new campus via Mountain Way (however, I've heard there will be no left turns into campus off Wieuca, so we're more than a mile away via the N. Stratford route). We are less than a mile away if there were to be a pedestrian way under and along 400 to the back side of the school, and we would consider using this route if it existed. This would be even more attractive if the PTA set up a "walking bus" system. Respondent #020 (Wieuca Ter NBCA former member): Without Sidewalks this is impossible. Respondent #026 (Valley Green Dr NBCA member): We live 1.1 mile from school. I would prefer my son to ride the bus considering the conditions of Wieuca Road. If the road changes, I would consider him walking with friends to school. My other 2 children would ride the bus to the main campus. Respondent #055 (Midvale Dr NBCA member): According to Google maps we are exactly 1 mile from the new school. Page 1 of 4 Narrative - Page 2 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 4 Narrative Responses Respondent #061 ( NBCA former member): not many people living w/i one mile walk at this moment. maybe 20 kids? most parents use carpool. i would never take a walk on wieuca, even with calming measures. people just ignore them. if you drive 30mph, you get passed. Respondent #070 (Loridans Dr NBCA member): We believe we are.9 of a mile away - we've no idea how APS will make it's calculations. Respondent #096 (Rickenbacker Dr NBCA member): APS NEEDS to provide bus service for everyone. I do not live within 1 mile radius but i STRONGLY believe everyone is entitle to bus service. what happens if a family lives within 1 mile of one campus but further from the other? How can you be home to meet the bus from one campus and in carpool line at the other? You cannot be in two places at once. There needs to be separate buses for each campus. Respondent #114 (Emma Ln NBCA former member): Very concerned about how we will safely cross Wieuca Road. Respondent #116 (Danube Rd NBCA member): We live just around the sharp curve from the new campus going toward Roswell Road. There are no sidewalks on our side of the Wieuca Rd. My granddaughter would have to cross Wieuca Rd. twice to get to school. Respondent #131 (Herrington Dr NBCA member): It would be hazardous for an adult to walk there! There is so much speeding on Wieuca people's mailboxes and fences get taken out daily. This is a scary situation for the children. Respondent #149 (Arden Way NBCA member): I am concerned that at 0.8 miles my 8 year girl will be denied bus service. Especially when there are not serviceable sidewalks to the school. Respondent #155 (Stovall Ter NBCA member): We live.85 miles from the Wieuca Rd campus. Respondent #160 (Glengary Dr NBCA former member): I believe that we do and I have also served on the Transportation committee for SRS (buses) for the past three years. I am very familiar with SRS bus issues. Respondent #164 (Whittington Dr NBCA former member): Our home is directly across the street from the new Wieuca school Respondent #171 (Wieuca Rd NBCA former member): We will walk to and from school if safe measures can be utilized. Respondent #178 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): I believe we live within 1 mi. or it's very close to that...we drop off via carpool in the morning and use the afterschool program in the afternoons. Respondent #184 (Wieuca Trce NBCA member): walking to the school via sidewalk will require crossing wieuca rd twice - with no crosswalks for either crossing. Respondent #199 (Lakemoore Dr NBCA member): I do not feel that it is safe to cross Weiuca Road for my child to go to school even w/ crossing guards. The road is very congested. I think it would be more child in mind if the bus service continued w/in a mile of the school. Page 2 of 4 Narrative - Page 3 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 4 Narrative Responses Respondent #201 (Glengary Dr NBCA former member): I live 0.9 miles Respondent #212 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): We live.6 miles from the new school and are located on the same side of the school. Crossing Wieuca during busy times is extremely difficult. I have stood at the top of my driveway in horrible disgust as I watch traffic zoom by me and my three children at speed of 55+ mph. It is totally unacceptable. I would love to have my children be able to walk to school, but in the current atmosphere it would be unthinkable. Do we have to wait for someone to get killed before people will listen?!? Respondent #233 (Ivy Rd NBCA member): This law needs to change. It was made for rual areas not highly populated urban areas. Respondent #250 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): We live within 1.1 miles; so we're pretty close! Respondent #255 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member):.9 miles Respondent #256 (Valley Green Dr NBCA former member): Just barely over 1 mile. Respondent #258 (Stovall Ter NBCA former member): I am at.9 miles. I am very concerned about this. I do not feel safe allowing my child walking along Wieuca Rd. Respondent #260 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): Raises concerns about walking safety and driving traffic Respondent #261 (Loridans Dr NBCA member): In my opinion, APS should not adhere to that policy unless a safe environment is in place (sidewalks within 1 mile of school are available AND any bridges in immediate area allow for pedestrain travel). Respondent #264 (Mountain Dr NBCA member): I live.9 miles away??? Pretty close to one mile. Respondent #271 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): We live a few block from the school and directly on a very dangerous curve on Wieuca Road. Respondent #273 (Whittington Dr NBCA member): Yes, I live on Whittington Drive, a "cut through" street leading to the flashing yellow light at the top of the Whittington at Wieuca. Whittington MUST BE IMPROVED WITH SPEED BUMPS! Coming down Whittington from the new Campus/flashing yellow light at Wieuca is a severe hill where speeding occurs - plus there is a BLIND CURVE at the bottom of the speed hill. SPEED BUMPS and SIDEWALKS ARE A MUST. Respondent #280 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): According to GoogleMaps. Respondent #288 (Midvale Dr NBCA member): We are probably just one mile away. Respondent #295 (North Ivy Rd NBCA member): 1.0 Miles away so unclear whether children will be eligible. Respondent #298 (Wieuca Rd NBCA former member): Without sidewalks and without bus options we will be forced to do car pool for both of our children who will be at two different campuses. Page 3 of 4 Narrative - Page 4 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 5 Narrative Responses QUESTION: 5. Would you let your child walk to/from the new Sarah Smith school at the Wieuca campus, assuming adequate sidewalks, signals and crosswalks were installed for the school on Wieuca Road and a parent or chaperone, if needed, accompanied them? 55 survey respondent comments Respondent #003 (Ivy Knoll NBCA member): Absolutely! As long as our family feels the area is safe, we would definitely walk to and from the school. Respondent #006 (Wieuca Trce NBCA member): as long as my child never has to cross Wieuca - we live on the school side of Wieuca. Also, the traffic MUST be slower on Wieuca. Respondent #014 (Stovall Blvd NBCA member): He would walk every day in that situation. Respondent #019 (Glengary Dr NBCA member): I would really like to have sidewalks installed on the school side of Wieuca in order to minimize any crossing of the busy street. Respondent #020 (Wieuca Ter NBCA former member): This would take too long to get to school in the morning and get home in the afternoon, not to mention how this would work in inclimate weather. Respondent #022 (N Ivy Rd non-member): As long as she were not walking alone, by the time she is in 3rd grade she could walk Respondent #038 (Mayfair Rd NBCA member): I would never let my child walk alone to school. We live very close to the Old Ivy campus and I would let her walk alone there either. It is not safe to let children walk alone to school for many reasons. Respondent #055 (Midvale Dr NBCA member): My answer is based on current Wieuca conditions, and having noticed excessive speeders in the 4 1/2 years we've lived here. Respondent #067 (Springside Ct non-member): We live too far away Respondent #068 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): Drivers routinely drive in excess of the speed limit on Wieuca and rarely is the speed limit enforced. There have been several accidents on the street and am concerned for the safety of young children walking to school. Respondent #070 (Loridans Dr NBCA member): Assuming adequate sidewalks, signals and crosswalks were installed. Respondent #077 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): An adult will always accompany her Respondent #107 (Old Ivy Rd NBCA member): In addition, a traffic/crosswalk officer would need to be present for me to allow my child to walk to/from the new Sarah Smith school. Page 1 of 4 Narrative - Page 5 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 5 Narrative Responses Respondent #114 (Emma Ln NBCA former member): We moved to Atlanta in 2004 from a walkable community in Michigan and really miss the opportunity to walk to our neighborhood schools. Respondent #116 (Danube Rd NBCA member): Only if sidewalks are placed on the school side of Wieuca Rd. and signals and crosswalks are installed to slow the traffic. Respondent #131 (Herrington Dr NBCA member): Not the way it is now! HUGE changes would be needed! Respondent #142 (Wieuca Rd NBCA former member): Yes, I would provided that there were sidewalks, crosswalks, stop signs and signals. Respondent #144 (Land O Lakes Dr NBCA former member): I do not live within one mile of the new campus, but rather less than one mile from the existing campus. We do walk home from school now that sidewalks have been in place. Previously I did not for safety purposes. It was upsetting that I had to drive and sit in a grueling carpool line. I even contacted the Clean Air Coalition. However, it would take a whole lot more traffic calming measures for me to walk on Wieuca, and that is coming from a former E. Wesley resident. I Respondent #145 (Ivy Rd NBCA member): with the caveat that all of the above safety measures were taken Respondent #149 (Arden Way NBCA member): A few issues. First, there are no serviceable sidewalks to get to Wieuca. I like the idea of a chaperone but it seems doubtful that my child would receive a chaperone all the way to our home which would be concering. Respondent #160 (Glengary Dr NBCA former member): If all measures were in place and enforced every day and not just at the beginning of the school year as is the case now. I would also be walking with them. Respondent #164 (Whittington Dr NBCA former member): I would allow them to walk only if I were accompanying them or an adult I knew was accompanying them. I think my wife and I would always be involved in walking them at their current age. Respondent #171 (Wieuca Rd NBCA former member): MOST DEFINITELY!!! THIS IS WHAT WE NEED!!!!! Respondent #178 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): We might walk occasionally if the appropriate sidewalks were in place along Wieuca Road. Respondent #184 (Wieuca Trce NBCA member): it will be much faster to walk than drive seeing there will be significant traffic at the school entrance. Respondent #187 (Tree Haven Dr NBCA member): Only if there was a parent/chaperone and a solution was in place to reduce vehicle speeds on the road. Respondent #191 (Statewood Rd non-member): Would definitely prefer there be sidewalks on the new campus side of wieuca-but if not hoping for traffic lights/crossing lites Respondent #199 (Lakemoore Dr NBCA member): There has to be a lot of safety measures put into place & w/ adequate supervision that is monitored & maintained. Page 2 of 4 Narrative - Page 6 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 5 Narrative Responses Respondent #201 (Glengary Dr NBCA former member): if within an eight 1/8 maybe...no chance we will ever let a 4th grader walk to school for a mile Respondent #208 (Arden Way NBCA member): If there were sidewalks, I would love the idea of walking with my children to school. Respondent #209 (Land O Lakes Dr NBCA former member): Providing my child is accompanied by an adult, I would let her walk along Wieuca. But given that we do not live within walking distance, I don't foresee many occasions when we will need to. Respondent #212 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): I would prefer my children walk to school. I walked as a child and not only is it good exercise, but it is good for the environment. I know it is really expensive, but I think we need all of the things that are mentioned above to be executed in order to make it safe for our children. Respondent #233 (Ivy Rd NBCA member): Only if they have sidewalks on both sides of Wieuca good signals with cross walks. City should consider the crosswalks used on UGA campus that allows the walker to push a buttom and numerous lights in the road start flashing to get the drivers attention. Respondent #238 (N Stratford Rd NBCA former member): I have to drive my kids in the morning. We can't get it together early enough to walk and we live about.8 miles door to door. Respondent #244 (Stovall Blvd NBCA former member): We would however walk WITH our child to school on occasion. We have other children that will be a different campuses so we will probably not have time to walk with our child every day so I expect that we will use carpool. Bus, if available, might be an option when our children are in the 3rd grade and up. Respondent #246 (Statewood Rd non-member): Once I feel my child is responsible enough to do so; I would like to see a crosswalk at Statewood especially if their is going to be a sidewalk between Ivy and Statewood. Respondent #250 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): I would let me child walk but only if accompanied. Respondent #255 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): I would only trust myself or my husband. and all of the above mentioned items would have to be in place. Respondent #258 (Stovall Ter NBCA former member): Not only is it not safe, it seems too far for her to walk....9 miles. Respondent #260 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): Speed on Wieuca is a problem. Drivers are careless and forget they are on a neighborhood street. Business traffic, cell phone useage, lead to issues with children using the streets. Police are able to give speeding tickets on Old Ivy which is also a 25mph, why the problems with Wieuca? Respondent #264 (Mountain Dr NBCA member): too busy of a street. Only if my wife or I walked with them. Respondent #267 (Danube Rd NBCA member): I would walk with my child, but not let my child go alone. The traffic is way too dangerous. HOWEVER, if there are no sidewalks, signals and crosswalks, we will never walk. I'll have to drive, thereby congesting traffic even more. Page 3 of 4 Narrative - Page 7 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 5 Narrative Responses Respondent #268 (Ivy Knoll NBCA member): We currently walk to the Old Ivy campus and have done so for the past 4 years Respondent #272 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): The new school is about a half mile from our home, but on the same side of the street. If we had sidewalks, kids could walk to school, without them, there is no way children could walk to school safely. The speed of traffic, and lack of clear lines of sight (due to the corners and hills in the street) would make it impossible to safely cross the street. Respondent #273 (Whittington Dr NBCA member): BUT THERE MUST BE SPEED RESTRICTORS (Speed Bumps) ON WHITTINGTON. Whittington is already a "cut through" street - it will only get worse. Respondent #280 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): Assuming the proper sidewalks and signals were in place. I would also expect enforcement of the speeding and other traffic laws before I let my child walk on Wieuca. The current speeds (and illegal passing) that go on in the area are frightening, and should not be allowed to continue under the new plan. Respondent #285 (Anonymous): We will walk just as it is. Respondent #287 (Stovall Ter NBCA member): Weather permitting Respondent #288 (Midvale Dr NBCA member): I would let my child walke to school if we were closer and had a chaperone. I'm very reluctant due to child safety issues overall. Respondent #289 (Loridans Dr NBCA member): As long as there remedies to the speeding on Wieuca. Respondent #295 (North Ivy Rd NBCA member): Traffic is too fast along Wieuca. Location is terrible! Whoever thought it would be a good idea to build a new primary school along a busy commuter artery - and on a corner to boot - is clearly someone who doesn't have young children. Respondent #308 (N Stratford Rd NBCA former member): We would walk in the morning often ONLY if there were sidewalks along our entire route (which currently we do not have on North Stratford or Wieuca). Respondent #318 (Ivy Knoll NBCA member): Yes we will walk. Respondent #331 (Whittington Dr NBCA member): if sidewalks were installed and stop lights and crossing guards Respondent #336 (Land O Lakes Dr NBCA member): We live 2 miles away. There is very heavy traffice around the school. With the recent bus incident walking with some other parent concerns me. End of this section. 55 respondent entries reported. Page 4 of 4 Narrative - Page 8 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 9 Narrative Responses QUESTION: 9. What other specific improvements do you think are needed on Wieuca Road for school students?(check as many as apply) 111 survey respondent comments Respondent #001 (Loridans Dr NBCA member): Cars go way too fast along Wieuca to make riding a bike available. Respondent #003 (Ivy Knoll NBCA member): Perhaps a traffic signal that operates ONLY during school rush hours: 7:30-8:00am and 2:30-3:00pm. Street signs with flashing yellow lights that instruct drivers to slow to 25mph during school rush hours. Respondent #005 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): Pedestrian bridge ould be too expensive. Need to raise speed to 30 MPH and radar speeders and give tickets Respondent #006 (Wieuca Trce NBCA member): There must be a stop sign at Loridans and Wieuca and a stop sign somewhere on Wieuca between Peachtree and the new school - in order to slow traffic down, provide needed breaks in the traffic and make it less desirable as a fast road to get from Peachtree to Roswell Rd. The school is in a blind curve and I do not trust cars to pay attention to the blinking lights as they frequently drive past my bus as it is unloading at Wieuca/Wieuca TR. Respondent #007 (Emma Ln NBCA member): A traffic signal on Wieuca Road should only be operated between 7:30 and 8:00 AM and 2:30 and 3:00 PM. There is no need for a light 24/7 in this spot; just during school arrival and dismissal. Respondent #018 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): Unsure about the traffic signal. Will have to see how left hand turn issues develop. Respondent #019 (Glengary Dr NBCA member): I'm marking "don't care" for railings along some sidewalks as I'm unclear where these would go, and also unclear about how safe they'd make anything--for pedestrians, bicyles or motorized vehicles. Couldn't find a reference in the source materials about this. Respondent #023 (Statewood Rd NBCA member): Pedestrian actuated signals should be located at the intersections of Ivy Wieuca and at Wieuca to ensure safer crossing for students and others. Respondent #026 (Valley Green Dr NBCA member): not sure what the "railings" entail, where, how high, near roadway? Respondent #035 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): OF ALL OF THESE WE NEED AGGRESSIVE POLICE PRESENCE AND TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT OF THE SPEED LIMITS Page 1 of 9 Narrative - Page 9 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 9 Narrative Responses Respondent #036 (Whittington Dr NBCA member): $ will of course be the big problem, but the dangers of walking along Wieuca, and the need to accept that some will walk, should walk, or must walk, bring us to the common sense realization that the above accommodations are necessary. Respondent #038 (Mayfair Rd NBCA member): In addition, there should be traffic caution signals over the road flashing about.5 to.25 miles from campus on either side to slow down traffic during school hours. Respondent #040 (Stovall Blvd non-member): I believe that to make this effective and safe for children that there should be at least one red light installed Respondent #043 (Statewood Rd NBCA member): I am shocked that most of this wasn't worked out by the city at the time they planned to place a school here. Their continued lack of planning is the main reason we moved our daughter to a private school. Respondent #044 (Creek Wood Close NBCA member): at some locations, existing sidewalks (on the west side of Wieuca) could potentially be used in lieu of new sidewalks----but STOP signs would be required at locations to transition from west side to east side Respondent #046 (Skyland Dr NBCA member): If the above needed items are implemented, then additional sidewalks may not be needed, although crossing Wieuca at Loridans is an issue. Respondent #050 (Pinecrest Rd NBCA member): A pedestrian bridge (..add ped. bridge..) is VERY essential; without it pedestrians are st the mercy of all vehicles. Respondent #055 (Midvale Dr NBCA member): The lack of sidewalks on the bridges is what's kept me from walking or running on Wieuca as an adult, much less allow a child to walk there. The bridges also occur at/near curves in the road, and seem extremely unsafe for pedestrians. Respondent #058 (Haven Oaks Ct NBCA member): all of the above are needed. i do not think it is safe to walk on existing sidewalks and many improvements need to be made. Respondent #063 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): Wieuca road should be a 3 lane road from Roswell to Peachtree. This will accommodate turn lanes to minimize traffic congestion throughout the day. Respondent #064 (Stovall Ter NBCA member): We need to calm traffic on Wieuca Road in as many ways as possible. I drive the 25 miles per hour to slow down traffic and am always tailgated by an impatient cut through driver. I would support several stopsigns/traffic lights on this road to slow people down. Respondent #067 (Springside Ct non-member): Maybe a 3 way stop sign at Whittington? To slow down traffic? Respondent #068 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): The pedestrian bridge option is ambiguous. Respondent #070 (Loridans Dr NBCA member): Some sort of pedestrian button/traffic signal at Loridans and Wieuca. The sidwalk currently on Loridans is on the north side, children have to cross to the south side of Loridans to use, what would be a new sidewalk. If no new sidewalk is built, they would need to cross Wieuca to existing sidewalk...then again, I doubt parents would have their children walk if that were the case. Mine won't. Page 2 of 9 Narrative - Page 10 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 9 Narrative Responses Respondent #076 (Valley Green Dr NBCA member): More important than adding new sidewalks on the east side of Wieuca, is improving existing sidewalk and putting in adequate and safe crossing areas. I assume they are adding sidewalk in front of the school already. Respondent #077 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): traffic calming devices are needed to slow cars down around the curve and along the 400 bridge straightaway. Respondent #078 (McClatchey Cir NBCA former member): Major speed reduction enforced by police will be needed. People speed all over this area constantly. Un safe for children to walk. Respondent #079 (Whittington Dr non-member): traffic signal needed for Whittington and Ivy Respondent #080 (Ivy Pkwy NBCA member): The sidewalk on the East side towards 400 is quite overgrown and broken in spots. A crossing guard may be necessary until drivers become accustomed to the traffic signal. Not seeing creek btwn Mountain Way and Loridans on google map. Respondent #083 (Woods Cir non-member): I would support the traffic signal if it were pedestrian button ONLY - not full time traffic signal Respondent #091 (Statewood Rd NBCA former member): We need to slow the cars down before they get to place children will be crossing. How about traffic signals around school that function during school beginning and ending times only. Respondent #092 (Stovall Pl NBCA member): Don't have school age children. Have concern for other children who could walk to school and I enjoy walking myself and sometimes the speeding traffic is a little scary! Respondent #094 (Glengary Dr NBCA member): I would like to see more traffic signals ( stop signs and/or lights) on Wieuca Rd. Respondent #095 (Valley Green Dr NBCA member): In addition to repairing existing sidewalks, some consideration should be given to keeping both sidewalks free from debris - the current sidewalk is often almost impassable with leaves and weeds. Respondent #096 (Rickenbacker Dr NBCA member): At the moment, it is dangerous to walk to the new campus. Wieuca is too busy to cross without adequate signals, sidewalks and crossing guards. Respondent #100 (Pinecrest Rd NBCA member): If some of the sidewalks are impossible, there should be crossing guards at other intersections, north, and south. Respondent #106 (Ivy Park Ln NBCA member): I think traffic guard during hours that students are walking would be sufficient until it is proven otherwise. My concern would be a signal that is used other than during school opening and closing. Respondent #109 (Valley Green Dr NBCA member): NEED to make Loridans/Wieuca an allway stop! Respondent #110 (Skyland Dr NBCA member): Currently there is no safe way for children to cross from the west to the east side of Wieuca Road. If students within 1 mile cannot utilize Page 3 of 9 Narrative - Page 11 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 9 Narrative Responses buses, then they must be offered a safe way to walk to school (because it's just silly to ask parents within 1 mile to drive!). Respondent #112 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): I think railings would add safety but I'd rather see landscaping and a raised, walled sidewalk. I can imagine railings being hit by cars and not repaired. It would be better than nothing if the sidewalks are right on the street. Respondent #114 (Emma Ln NBCA former member): Children as well as adults cannot currently safely walk to the new school. The current sidewalks are not kept free of debris or maintained properly and new sidewalks are needed. Please do not wait for an accident to injure or kill one of our children before taking action to make this a safe way for children to get to school. Respondent #115 (Pinecrest Rd non-member): Crossing guard during pedestrian hours before and after school should be non-negotiable if children are walking. Respondent #116 (Danube Rd NBCA member): Wieuca Rd. is a narrow, dangerous, curvy road. We have lived on Danube Rd. for 42 years and could not count the accidents at Wieuca/Danube because of speeding. Our children/grandchildren should be able to walk to school safely. Respondent #119 (Stephens Mill Run NBCA member): Sidewalks should be available on both sides of Wieuca between about Mountain Way to North Stratford (or thereabouts). Respondent #121 (N Ivy Rd NBCA member): First the new sidewalks should not have tlephone and power poles in the middle of them as the existing sidewoalks do. In liu of a traffice signal at the school I think crossing guards are more desireable. Children will cross the street less then one hour per day and to put traffic lights in that will interrupt traffic 24 hours a day is not ecologically justified. I wlaked over a mile to school as a child and the exercise will be good for the children. Respondent #123 (Wieuca Trce NBCA member): I believe we should have two crossings across Wieuca Rd to the new school: one at the new driveway to the school, another on the north end of the property, leading to stairs up to the school. Also, we will need other traffic calming measures right around the school Respondent #128 (Danube Rd NBCA member): The cars need to be slowed down on Weica, they drive very very fast Respondent #129 (Anonymous): The traffic signal will also help to slow the traffic on Wieuca without unreasonably (speed humps, lower speed limit, etc) impeding the flow of traffic. Sidewalks must be safe and adequately wide enough to accommodate foot traffic. Respondent #130 (Danube Rd NBCA former member): School zone flashing lights Speed measurement light to tell people they are going too fast. Stop signs at Danube, Whittington, and N. Ivy to slow people down. Respondent #131 (Herrington Dr NBCA member): The side streets like Herrington will also need new sidewalks! Respondent #142 (Wieuca Rd NBCA former member): Without these much needed traffic calming plans in place this school will be complicated to use: students won't literally be able to get there on foot. Plus, the speeding traffic won't stop for buses or parents dropping off. Page 4 of 9 Narrative - Page 12 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 9 Narrative Responses Respondent #144 (Land O Lakes Dr NBCA former member): A crossing guard would not only help the safety of the pedestrians, but would also help to manage the traffic on the road as drivers enter and exit the school during carpool times. Respondent #148 (Ivy Ln NBCA former member): increase speed limits on Wieuca. Respondent #149 (Arden Way NBCA member): These our children, they need as many protections from a busy road as possible. Respondent #153 (Arden Way NBCA member): We need to make Wieuca as safe as possible for the children walking to school. I also like the idea of raising the speed limit to 30 if the APD can start monitoring speed and give tickets. Respondent #155 (Stovall Ter NBCA member): The more sidewalks the better for the school and for our community. I would prefer a pedestrian activated signal at Wieuca Rd and the school which stayed green always unless activiated by a pedestrian (or school bus, crossing guard, etc.). Respondent #159 (Rickenbacker Way NBCA member): we need to NOT create a traffic stopage on wieuca with too many lights or stop signs. it needs to move to get the traffic out of the neighborhoods that are surely going to see much more cut through traffic. kids today need to walk more and exercise. i walked to school in the 5th grade. Respondent #160 (Glengary Dr NBCA former member): Sidewalks must be in place on both sides two and from the school down those streets indicated above. Wieuca Road is a dangerous road for pedestrians now, we can not put children on it and wait for a tragedy to occur. Many students walk and ride to the campus now, you can not take that away. The road will not support the increase in cars and the bus system does not work as well as in the past due to cut backs this year. I would be willing to talk to you about this further since I have first Respondent #161 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): This road is a major cut through from Peachtree to Roswell. Cars fly along totally ignoring the speed limit. If we want the children to be safe, major steps, such as those named above, must be taken. Respondent #164 (Whittington Dr NBCA former member): I think the safety of the children is the priority here and anything and everything to insure this is vital. Our tax dollars should pay for this. To me, sidewalks and traffic slowing devices are an improvement for everyone regardless of whether or not a homeowner has children. As a real estate agent, I know this adds value to everyone's property. Respondent #167 (Old Ivy Ln NBCA member): I've never understood why APS/Sarah Smith does not provide a crossing guard at the current school, either. Respondent #168 (Loridans Dr NBCA member): 4-way stop signs at Loridans Dr. + Wieuca so students can use Loridans sidewalk + cross at Wieuca to use Wieuca sidewalk to school Respondent #171 (Wieuca Rd NBCA former member): We MUST have crossing guards! Respondent #172 (N Ivy Rd NBCA member): I hope the neighborhood and parents will donate to help pay for crossing guards at both Sarah Smith campuses. Or, they could volunteer to be a crossing guard, which would be even better. Page 5 of 9 Narrative - Page 13 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 9 Narrative Responses Respondent #176 (Rickenbacker Way NBCA member): Sidewalks on Wieuca Road need to be maintained and cleaned on a regular basis. Respondent #178 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): I would also support a speed limit that could be enforced by local law enforcement...many cars drive way to fast on Wieuca. Respondent #182 (Skyland Dr NBCA member): We do not need overkill here. Most students are brought by their moms and that will not change. I do not want major disruption to Wieuca just because of a new school. Put in flashing school lights and repair sidewalks. NO STOP SIGNS! Respondent #184 (Wieuca Trce NBCA member): Pedestrian stairs going up the hill on the Sarah Smith property across from Wittington should be considered. This would alleviate kids having to walk up the driveway amongst all of the cars. Crossing guard should be at Wittington and Wieuca. Existing sidewalks need to be cleared of plant overgrowth. Respondent #185 (Midvale Dr NBCA member): People travel too fast on Wieuca Road and without changes there will be problems! Respondent #186 (Park Ave NBCA member): Safety of all students, adult walkers/runners and drivers is paramount. Wieuca Rd. at Phipps Blvd. is very dangerous, as well. Respondent #188 (Carmain Dr NBCA member): I learned how to drive on these roadways. It is my opinion that student pedestrians should be permitted to walk to the new elementary school from streets IN BETWEEN Loridans Dr and North Stratford Rd. In addition to adding a traffic signal at Loridans Dr and at the school, there should be a public awareness campaign to alert drivers who use Weiuca as a cut through. It should be well announced on all news channels and in the papers. Smart Speed Limit s Respondent #189 (Carmain Dr NBCA former member): I think the safety of the children should always be the main focus. Respondent #191 (Statewood Rd non-member): If sidewalks are NOT put in (on the East side of Wieuca)Traffic signals might be needed at statewood Road - as there is a blind spot if you are coming from Roswell Road towards Peachtree - cars come whipping around that corner and if you ar etryign to cross - you have to run to get around safely! Respondent #197 (Glengary Way NBCA member): Not sure where railings would go. Students should be able to walk to & from school safely. Respondent #201 (Glengary Dr NBCA former member): Nobody will walk without these improvements...period Respondent #202 (Olde Ivy Sq NBCA member): I think all of these are good ideas, but without question there should be a crossing guard at the school. Depending on how many children walk to school maybe more crossing guards could be at other places along Wieuca. Page 6 of 9 Narrative - Page 14 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 9 Narrative Responses Respondent #205 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): The bridge at creek MUST be repaired to be safe for our children. Respondent #208 (Arden Way NBCA member): I'm sure many of the suggestions would add incredible value, but without sidewalks, the rest seems to be a moot point. A think given how well travelled Wiecua Rd. is a crossing guard is a must. Respondent #216 (Sheldon Dr NBCA member): we live on Sheldon in between the two campuses. We have a FEW speed humps and does little to deter speeding. Respondent #219 (Mountain Way NBCA member): I believe there should be a green development walking trail on the east side of Wieuca. This is a porous surface so is better for the trees growth. It is made of grass with integrated plastic or concrete web structure so that grass can still grow. In shaded areas it is either pea stone or mulch surface. It is like a path that can weave in and out of existing trees so maybe none have to be cut down. It should be located as close as possible next to the edge of the right-of-way. Respondent #229 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): Crosswalks are needed for every street intersecting with Wieuca Road from the school side. If students can safely cross Wieuca Road to the existing sidewalk, no new sidewalk is needed. Properly design crosswalks will not only provide access to the existing sidewalk they will slow the vehicular traffic. Respondent #236 (N Ivy Rd NBCA member): Safety first for the children and parents to be able to walk. We walk on Wieuca on the sidewalks all the time and never feel very safe-speed of traffic is the biggest issues. Respondent #241 ( NBCA former member): Walking along Wieuca always feels dangerous to me -everything possible needs to be done to make it safe for children that young. They need to be accompanied by an adult. Respondent #243 (Loridans Dr NBCA member): make Loridans at Wieuca a 3 way stop. Respondent #244 (Stovall Blvd NBCA former member): My comment really is "not sure" about some of these options. I would like to know more about costs, viability and success rate and would like to comapare different options. Are there back roads that could be walked to school other than down Wieuca? Perhaps some type of path that could be cut? Also I think you could do more about speeding--either radar or more police. At least periodically until people slow down. Respondent #249 (Glengary Dr NBCA former member): A very small percentage of the community have children going to this new school and I don't think the rest of the neighborhood should be taxed with more lights, stop signs, etc. It will slow down traffic too much on Wieuca. At the same time, I want to see that the children have safety measures in place. Respondent #258 (Stovall Ter NBCA former member): There needs to be sidewalk on both sides of Wieuca. Respondent #259 (Land O Lakes Dr NBCA former member): I also think some sort of traffic calming is needed. Having people drive 40+ MPH around a school located on a curvy road where children are potentially walking to school is unacceptable. SIdewalks, traffic signals, etc. will not make it safer without some slowdown of traffic. Page 7 of 9 Narrative - Page 15 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 9 Narrative Responses Respondent #260 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): RAiling can be a concern for sidewalk useage other than school children - i.e. walking with a stroller / double stroller. Improvements should be adequate for school children and neighborhood useage. Respondent #261 (Loridans Dr NBCA member): Have not seen status of existing sidewalks along Wieuca Road so am not able to answer regarding repairs. Would prefer a traffic light at school to crossing guard (will also slow speed along Wieuca Rd) Respondent #262 (Park Regency Pl NBCA member): Shouldn't have all this to be considered before school was built? What ever happened to an impact study that usually precedes such an endeavor? Respondent #268 (Ivy Knoll NBCA member): We need every possible safety consideration made to protect the walkers to BOTH campuses. Respondent #272 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): I hate to even call these issues "improvements". They should ahve been required, anticipated, and fully funded as part of the new school. Respondent #273 (Whittington Dr NBCA member): Whittington Drive is being overlooked - There MUST be sidewalks and SPEED BUMPS to slow the new traffic count that will occur. Respondent #277 (Brookhaven Springs Dr NBCA member): Although I believe sidewalks on both sides of the road would be best, sidewalks need to at least be consistently on one side of the road so children don't have to cross back and forth to stay on a sidewalk, as is the case on Peachtree Dunwoody Road. Respondent #280 (N Stratford Rd NBCA member): ENFORCEMENT of speed and other traffic laws. All the improvements in the world won't mean anything when an SUV hits a child after speeding up to 50mph as they do today. Respondent #281 (Tree Haven Dr NBCA member): Stop sign or traffic light at Loridans and Wieuca. Respondent #285 (Anonymous): A cross walk is need at the school to connect ot the other side of Wieuca. This is not listed above. It should be included with the button. The choice is not clear. Respondent #288 (Midvale Dr NBCA member): The Mtn Way and Loridans pedestrian bridge needs a red light since it is a blind curve. Respondent #289 (Loridans Dr NBCA member): Excessive speeding on wieuca and Loridans needs to be addressed. Respondent #293 (Sheldon Dr non-member): As many sidewalks as we can get are better. It seems the exact placement should where their is the more people. We have got to figure a way for less car traffic around both new and old Sarah Smith locations. Respondent #295 (North Ivy Rd NBCA member): Speed Bumps Buffer between sidewalk and road Respondent #298 (Wieuca Rd NBCA former member): Safety for all children should be the top priority. Page 8 of 9 Narrative - Page 16 of 84

Wieuca Road Survey Question: 9 Narrative Responses Respondent #307 (Wieuca Rd NBCA former member): What kind of railings. Some of them are really tacky. Respondent #312 (Herrington Dr NBCA member): Don't understand pedestrian bridge idea (where located, etc.), but current bridge is clearly not safe for pedestrians. Respondent #314 (McClatchey Cir non-member): just slow things down at start and end of school only Respondent #318 (Ivy Knoll NBCA member): Need 4-way stops to slow traffic Respondent #323 (Wieuca RD NBCA member): This School should not have been built in this location.therefore, the pearants are responcible for the safety of getting their children to and from school, not the tax payers. Respondent #330 (pinecrest rd NBCA member): sidewalks need to be widened/wide enough to accommodate parents with children, pets and strollers Taking up the bike lane for safer non car traffic with cut ins for bikes to migrate to sidewalk in heavy traffic if necessary (note we are runners, walkers and cyclists) Respondent #331 (Whittington Dr NBCA member): please also address the traffic issue that is going to occur on Whittington Drive. We currently have 25 children under the age of five. many blind spots and a large hill are present on the road - we NEED speed bumps and no cut through sings to ensure the safety of everyone on the street!!!!! Respondent #336 (Land O Lakes Dr NBCA member): I use these sidewalks now and they are not wide enough for young children to walk on with others. They are to narrow and not in good condition. 20 Wieuca Road Survey Question: 10 Narrative Responses QUESTION: 10. What improvements do you think are needed on roads other than Wieuca Road? Please specify location in Comments.(Check as many as apply and specify street name(s) in the comments section.) 105 survey respondent comments Respondent #003 (Ivy Knoll NBCA member): In general, the sidewalks in North Buckhead all need repair. Sidewalks are absolutely necessary on the East side of Wieuca road. Crosswalks would show students/families exactly where they should cross Wieuca. Respondent #007 (Emma Ln NBCA member): The sidewalk along Wieuca is very poorly maintained. In some places it is impassable due to vegetation growth. Respondent #010 (Potters Walk NBCA member): Need more stop signs on Loridans, as well as multiple traffic calming devices, especially coming down the hill headed towards Wieuca. Very dangerous, down hill blind curves. Respondent #019 (Glengary Dr NBCA member): Mountain Way at Wiecua needs crosswalks and traffic signal with ped. button. Sidewalks all along Mountain Way would be great, but probably too much to hope for with fiscal constraints. Bypassing most of Mountain Way with a pedestrian easement under and along 400 to go in the back way to school would be safer and probably cheaper than adding sidewalks along Mountain Way, especially if a parent chaperone system were implemented. Respondent #021 (Stovall Blvd NBCA member): Measures to facilitate traffic exiting driveway from new office building Respondent #026 (Valley Green Dr NBCA member): Loridans Dr sidewalks are practically on the street and are narrow. They should be repaired. Respondent #031 (Valley Green Dr NBCA member): At Loridans and W Weiuca definitely! Respondent #035 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): NONE OF THE OPTION ABOVE WILL IMPACT ANYTHING UNLESS THERE IS AGGRESSIVE, HIGHLY VISIBLE AND PERMANENT POLICE ENFORCEMENT OF THE SPEED LIMIT Respondent #036 (Whittington Dr NBCA member): I am thinking of Loridans. It is the next major collector, in effect, and gets a lot of auto traffic. Respondent #038 (Mayfair Rd NBCA member): Enforcement of stop sign at corner of Ivy and Old Ivy. Cars run this stop sigh=n all the time. Add a three way stop at Allison and Old Ivy to slow traffic down. Respondent #041 (Wieuca Rd NBCA member): any streets within a mile of the new school.
