Easter bunny and chick hunt at Priory Park 31 MARCH, 11AM The annual Easter hunts are back at Priory Park, open to all ages and there is no need to book. Free of charge. 11

12 Section 2 - Health and progression walks All our health walks are delivered in conjunction with Walking for Health a national initiative that helps people access short, free and friendly health walks in their local area. Our progression walks are harder and longer in duration, over 90 minutes or more. Many of our walks are possible thanks to the dedication and hard work of our volunteer walk leaders. It would greatly help our walk leaders if anyone new to the walk can arrive 20 minutes before the start time, (15 minutes for regular participants) to enable them to complete registration and start the walks on time. 12

13 Cotwall End Valley Monthly health walk Cotwall End Valley Local Nature Reserve offers unspoilt woodland, meadows, pools and streams and is home to a variety of wildlife. DATES: Third Saturday of every month (17 October, 21 November, 19 December, 16 January, 20 February, 19 March) TIME: 2 3pm MEETING POINT: Brockswood Animal Sanctuary car park, access from Cotwall End Road, Sedgley. DY3 3YE INTENSITY: Moderate (includes some steps and slopes) WALK LEADERS: Sue Bole and Paul Greenaway 13

14 Himley Hall & Park Weekly health walks and monthly progression walk About 1½ hour walk, approximately 3 miles long over modest terrain, around Himley and Baggeridge country parks. Extended walks every 5 weeks varying from 6 to 7 miles at various nearby locations. DAY: Each Tuesday TIME: 9.45am for a 10am start MEETING POINT: Car park by cafe and golf club in Himley Park POST CODE: DY3 4DF INTENSITY: Flat to gentle hills WALK LEADERS: Michael Murphy, Angela Moffatt, Mike Ball, Phil Mitchell, Graham Smith and Maggie Squires Extended monthly walks 3 NOVEMBER ENVILLE SHEEP WALKS. MEETING POINT: The Cat Public House, Enville, Bridge North Road POST CODE: DY7 5HA INTENSITY: Moderate, couple of modest hill climbs. 8 DECEMBER SEVERN VALLEY COUNTRY PARK (SVCP) A 6½ mile circular walk starting at SVCP walking up to Brownhills via Dumbolds Farm, the ruins of a Tithe Barn and past Pool Hall, returning to SVCP. MEETING POINT: Severn Valley Country Park car park ( 1.70 all day) POST CODE: WV15 6NG INTENSITY: High to start low on return leg 12 JANUARY BECKBURY This is a flat circular walk, approximately 6½ miles. 15 16 FEBRUARY THE MILLIONS PLANTATION. A 6½ to 7 mile walk starting on the A449 and winding its way around the Millions and surrounding area. MEETING POINT: Layby on the A449 opposite Holloway House POST CODE: None leader will provide directions from Himley INTENSITY: Moderate 22 MARCH KINVER A walk around Kinver, featuring a couple of modest hill climbs. 16 Huntingtree Park Weekly progression walk and extended progression walks Huntingtree offers a programme of weekly and monthly healthy walking opportunities of 1 2¼ hours duration through undulating, scenic countryside. Occasional stiles, steep inclines/declines and a variety of potential underfoot slips and trips may be encountered. Appropriate footwear advisable. Weekly progression walk DAY: Thursday TIME: 9.45am for a prompt 10am start. Walkers new to this group should register at 9.40am to enable timely completion of registration form and induction. HUNTINGTREE MONTHLY EXTENDED TRAIL TO THE NIMMINGS NATIONAL TRUST SITE, CLENT HILLS DATES: On the first Thursday of each month, October March inclusive and in place of the Huntingtree weekly long walk MEETING POINT: Activity Centre, Huntingtree Park, Huntingtree Road, Halesowen, B63 4HY THE ENVILLE SHEEP WALK DATE: 19 November A circular walk of approximately 5 ½ miles (2¼ hours) within the Enville Hall estate, encompassing a steady climb to start, wonderful views as a reward - and a blend of high rolling pasture, mixed woodland and attractive pools. 17 BEYOND NIMMINGS MYSTERY TRAIL DATE: 28 January Winter is upon us! Weather and ground conditions will dictate the overall duration of this morning s walk through the ever changing landscapes surrounding Clent and Walton Hills. Estimated time: Up to 2 hours. MEETING POINT: Nimmings Wood National Trust Car Park, Hagley Wood Lane, B62 0NL (Note: Free on-road parking is available in Hagley Wood Lane). THE WHITTINGTON WINTER ROUND-AND-ABOUT DATE: 18 February Venture into a picturesque winter-scape. A circular, rural trek of up to 2 hours. MEETING POINT: The Whittington Inn car park, A449, Kinver, Staffs, DY7 6NY THE WOMBOURNE SPRING CIRCULAR DATE: 24 March A pleasing early-spring circular walk of approximately 6 to 7 miles following the route of the disused Wombourne railway branch line, then returning alongside the Staffordshire & Worcestershire canal. 18 The Leasowes Weekly health walks and monthly progression walks The weekly Monday morning walks will take you over footpaths, and varying terrain, and include impressive views of the local area. Each week there will be three walks of up to 30 minutes, 60 minutes and 90 minutes on offer to cater for walkers of different abilities. Our Walk Leaders will use varying routes within and around The Leasowes. Please note that changes may be made if the weather is inclement. For further details, contact Kim Braznell on For walkers who want more of a challenge, The Leasowes walking group offers longer progression walks at various local venues. These walks take place on the first Monday of the month and are instead of the weekly up to 90 minute walk. They will take up to 2½ hours. Sixty and 30-minute walks will still take place at The Leasowes on these dates. Unless otherwise stated, all walks start at 10am (meet at 9.45 for registration). DAY: Monday TIME: 9.50am for 10am start MEETING POINT: The Leasowes car park, adjacent to Wardens base, unless otherwise stated. The walk is about 4½ miles, taking approximately 2 hours. Refreshments at The Leasowes after the walk. MEETING POINT: The Leasowes car park. A coach will take us to Bumble Hole. 19 7 DECEMBER GALTON BRIDGE TO CENTRAL BIRMINGHAM A leisurely linear walk along the canal towpath of the Birmingham Main Line to the junction with the Birmingham and Fazeley and Birmingham Worcester Canals near the ICC. A walk of approximately 5 miles taking 1½ to 2 hours. Refreshments available in Brindley Place outlets. MEETING POINT: Meet at Galton Bridge Railway Station for a 10.15am start. POST CODE: B66 1HU INTENSITY: Easy 4 JANUARY THE LEASOWES AND WOODGATE VALLEY A gentle scenic route, taking in several stiles. The group will stop at the cafe in Woodgate Valley for refreshments. This walk is moderate intensity and will take approximately 2-2½ hours, including cafe stop. MEETING POINT: The Leasowes car park, Mucklow Hill POST CODE: B62 8QF INTENSITY: Easy to moderate 1 FEBRUARY SANDWELL VALLEY COUNTRY PARK A leisurely walk around Sandwell Valley Country Park. About 4.5 miles in length. Please bring your own refreshments. MEETING POINT: At the car park opposite the adventure playground, on Salter s Lane, (behind Dartmouth Park) West Bromwich. Follow brown signs for Sandwell Valley CP from Newton Road. POST CODE: B71 4BG INTENSITY: Easy 7 MARCH CLENT HILLS CIRCULAR A circular walk taking in view of the Four Stones, Walton Hill, Adam s Hill and the Hagley Park Estate. A walk of about 5 miles, taking up to 3 hours. Moderate to hard intensity, with some steep inclines and a short section along a lane. Please bring your own refreshments. 22 18 DECEMBER QUARRY BANK CHRISTMAS WALK A moderate circular walk around Quarry Bank. 23 SEDGLEY Monthly progression walk Explore Sedgley and its varied surroundings with these walks (sometimes with uneven or steep footing). Walks take approximately 3 hours including a 30 minute lunch break at a local pub, where participants can eat their own food but are asked to purchase drinks. DAY: Monday TIME: 10.45am for a prompt 11am start MEETING POINT: Front doorway of The Clifton in Sedgley DY3 1RX INTENSITY: Hard WALK LEADER: Stuart Brasier 9 NOVEMBER BEACON HILL A walk over Beacon Hill on woodland trails following field hedgerows. Lunch stop in the woods and socialising at the Clifton. 14 DECEMBER COSELEY TUNNEL AND BILSTON A special walk that ends with a Christmas Lunch at Ye Olde White Rose. We go down Turlshill, climb Mons Hill then drop down to the canal for a wondrous wander through the Ladymoor wilderness and alleyways into Bilston. Return is by bus. 28 DECEMBER CHRISTMAS WALK We climb Beacon Hill, then fields and alleys to the Britannia famous for its unchanged tap room, then return via alleyways and parks. 11 JANUARY RIPPLE BEDS Woodland trials over Hurst Hill and Wrens Nest to see Dudley s 420 million year old beach. Then open spaces and alleys back to Sedgley. Lunch at the Britannia. 8 FEBRUARY BUTTERFLY WALK Intricate woodland trails in Cotwall End, alleyways to London Fields. Lunch at the Britannia. Parks and more alleys back to Sedgley. 14 MARCH BAGGERIDGE AND COTWALL END Alleyways and pasture land to Baggeridge and Cotwall End with a chance to peek at exotic animals in Brockwood Animal Sanctuary. Lunch at the Woodman. 23

25 Nordic Walking Nordic walking is a fitness technique that uses walking poles in order to give a whole body workout. It is suitable for all levels of fitness and poles are provided. Please arrive 15 minutes before each session starts. Both sessions are for 1 hour and meet at the warden s base off Mucklow Hill, Halesowen. B62 8QF Nordic Ramble: This moderately paced Nordic session includes some elements of fitness work and enjoys the delights of walking in the picturesque landscape. It concludes with refreshments served in the warden s base. DAY: Wednesday TIME: 2pm WALK LEADER: Sue Samuel Nordic in the dark: participants will need to provide their own headlamp and high visibility jacket. This higher intensity Nordic walking session is for participants who want to improve their fitness levels. 27 ADVENTURE WALKS These routes are for the more advanced walker on paths off the beaten track, which may include uneven surfaces, mud, dense undergrowth, steep slopes and steps. Walks take approximately 3 hours plus travelling time. Please bring travel pass or change for public transport. Lunch breaks in local pubs, where participants can eat their own food at some, but are asked to purchase drinks. DAY: Friday TIME: 10.45am for a prompt 11am start MEETING POINT: Outside the travel shop at Dudley bus station DY2 7AD INTENSITY: Hard WALK LEADER: Stuart Brasier 6 NOVEMBER THE DELPH From Cinder Bank we climb Netherton Hill. Coffee break at the Black Country Man, wander round Fens Pool and Buckpool. On the canal to Silverend and the Delph for a bargain lunch at the Bull and Bladder. 4 DECEMBER WRENS NEST Just a few hills on this walk, Castle Hill, Wrens Nest, Mons Hill, Dibdale, London Fields and The Grange, passing the remains of the Gypsys Tent Pub and Top Church to end with a Christmas Lunch at the Brambles. 8 JANUARY OAKHAM AND CAKEMORE A tour of the Oakham masts, through Tippity Green and onto the Monarchs Way at Hill and Cakemore then into the Leasowes. Lunch on the way and a social stop at the Bell and Bear. 5 FEBRUARY LAPAL To Lapal and Illey, Kettles and Twiland Woods and the Monarchs Way. Social stop at the Black Horse. 4 MARCH 7 CUTS TO PRINCES END From Dudley Port we tunnel into Sheepwash, have lunch at the Tame Bridge. We walk a stretch of the Walsall Canal to Gospel Oak and finish on a length of old railway line. 27
