1 PINOLE POLICE DEPARMENT Crime Prevention Unit 880 Tennent Ave. Pinole, CA Crime Prevention Bulletin January 30 February 12, 2017 Child Safety Tips As we draw closer to spring and dry weather we want to ensure that you have basic child safety tips you can follow when you are out being active. Check playgrounds where your children play. Look for age-appropriate equipment and hazards, such as rusted or broken equipment and dangerous surfaces. Report any hazards to the school or appropriate local office. Teach children that pushing, shoving or crowding while on the playground can be dangerous. Ensure that children use age-appropriate playground equipment. Every skater or bicyclist should wear a helmet. Wrist guards, knee pads and elbow pads are a good idea for everyone, but especially for beginners. Mouth guards are good protection against broken teeth. Children should ride on smooth, dry surfaces located in a well-lit area away from traffic. Teach children to check their skates, skateboards and bikes for problems before each use. Tell kids to look left, right and left again when crossing the street. Teach them to never run or dart out into the street or cross between parked cars. Cross streets at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. Most injuries happen mid-block or someplace other than intersections. Adults should be present at all times to ensure a safe playing environment and the enforcement of safety rules. This is particularly important for younger kids. If your children need to use a cell phone, make sure they stop walking and find a safe area to talk. When using headphones, kids should be sure to look up and pay extra attention and remove the headphones when crossing the street. One commercial burglary was reported in Beat One during this period. It occurred on Wednesday (2/1) in the 1400 block of Tara Hills Drive during the evening hours. A Black male adult stole alcohol and fled out the back of the store. No further information is available at this time. Four auto burglaries were reported in Beat One during this period. One burglary occurred in the 1500 block of Pinole Valley Road in the evening hours. Friday (2/3) One burglary occurred in the 700 block of Tennent Avenue in the evening hours. Monday (2/6) One burglary occurred in the 1300 block of Pinole Valley Road in the morning hours. Wednesday (2/8) One burglary occurred in the 2000 block of San Pablo Avenue in the evening hours.

There were 5 commercial burglaries during this period. Wednesday (2/1) Two burglaries were reported in the 2900 block of Pinole Valley Road. Unknown suspect(s) broke into storage lockers. Saturday (2/4) Monday (2/6) Currently these cases are under investigation. Two auto burglaries were reported in Beat Two during this period. Both occurred in the 2700 block of Pinole Valley Road in the evening hours.

5 Beat Three Ranges from Fitzgerald to Appian Pinole Vista Shopping Center Appian 80 Shopping Center Dalessi Drive Beat Three Officers: Officer Fodor (510) Officer Breckenridge (510) Officer Bash (510) Officer Lew - (510) No residential burglaries were reported in Beat Three during this period. Two commercial burglaries were reported in Beat Three during this period. Wednesday (2/1) One occurred in the 1300 block of Fitzgerald Drive during the evening hours. Unknown suspect(s) stole merchandise from the storage area of the store. Thursday (2/2) One occurred in the 1400 block of Fitzgerald Drive in the early morning hours. An unknown suspect(s) threw a rock through the front window of a business. They attempted to open the safe but were unsuccessful. There were twenty auto burglaries reported in Beat Three during this period. Three auto burglaries occurred on this day in the 1400 block of Fitzgerald Drive. One occurred during mid day and the others in the evening hours. Wednesday (2/1) Thursday (2/2) One occurred in the 1400 block of Fitzgerald Drive during mid day. Friday (2/3) One occurred in the 2600 block of Appian Way during the evening hours. Saturday (2/4) Two burglaries occurred in the 1400 block of Fitzgerald Drive. One was during the afternoon hours and the other during the evening. Monday (2/6) Three burglaries occurred in the 1400 block of Fitzgerald Drive. Two of them occurred during the late afternoon hours and the third in the evening. Tuesday (2/7) Two burglaries occurred in evening hours. The first was in the 1300 block of Fitzgerald Drive and the second in the 1400 block of Fitzgerald Drive. Wednesday (2/8) Thursday (2/9) Friday (2/10) Two burglaries occurred. The first was in the 1500 block of Fitzgerald Drive during the afternoon hours. The second occurred in the 2500 block of Appian Way during the afternoon hours. Saturday (2/11) Two burglaries occurred in the 1400 block of Fitzgerald Drive during the evening hours.
