Meeting closed and The New STTA meets to:- - Nominate National Councilor: Margot Fraser nominated - Nominate Deputy National Councillor: Tony Laws REPORTS: Surrey TTA Treasurer s Report for the period 1 st June 2016 to 22 nd May A year ago we had a surplus of 150 but this year it increased to 1,860. Our income increased by about 1,200 for the year. Additional income has been generated by closed tournaments and coaching, the sale of a number of county shirts and two seasons worth of money from TTE representing our share of player licence fees. On the expenditure side County Championships entry fees are always required in advance, consequently in the wrong financial year. Last year we paid for last year and this year. This year we are paying for next year! In short, about 800 has been prepaid. Closed tournament and coaching expenditure has more than doubled but it remains less than the income generated from it as the income is up by about 600%. Our Reserves remain stable gathering just pennies and we have just over 7,000. over 5,000 in our current account. We also have well The 2016 accounts have been audited by Michelle McGovern and she is satisfied with the 2017 accounts to date. This coming year we are re-introducing an Over 60 s team which is likely to increase our expenditure a little. Last year we set our affiliation fees for the coming season. I suggest the usual moderate increase in fees of 50p per team which will help to offset falling numbers in most leagues. Michael Loveder 23 rd May 2017
Umpires Secretary s report by Margot Fraser Pleased to report that Kim Mudge qualified as a national umpire. National Councillor s report by Margot Fraser Much of this year s National Council meetings has been taken up with changes to governance in order to receive funding from our stakeholders. The main changes will be that members will not vote for a chairman but the board will appoint. Also, a national councillor may only serve for a limited term. Both items will be on the Table Tennis England AGM agenda. A new region was formed separating what was South and South East region and our Surrey boroughs are South East with Kim Mudge as the chairman. Our London boroughs continue to be London region. Congratulations to Tony Laws, Steve Sharp, Robin Faulkner, Kathy Pelc and Russell Hurley on being nominated for a Pride award and to Ryszard Pelc for being selected as the London young volunteer of the year. Safeguarding Officers Report by Kim Johnston Two minor issues arose this season and both were dealt with in a discreet and positive manner. On a different matter, two coaches, one Surrey based coach and another coach working in the Surrey area have been found to have minors on their social media sites. A mail has gone to both of them reiterating the policy of their Governing Body. KJ would like the Committee members to do more by talking to the coaches known to them, informing them that TTE say do not have minors on your social media sites. It would help Surrey a lot in the policing of this. Surrey County Captain s Report Seniors & Vets 2016/17 Kim & Michael looked after the younger age groups so a bit thanks to both of them. They will provide separate reports for their respective groups. Seniors: New Team Captain Federico assisted by Adam thanks to them for all their work. Strong team first weekend Darius and Joseph appeared and the team won all their matches Second weekend we didn t have Darius and our Junior girls stepped up to the challenge fantastic effort to push Devon 1 to the very last game of the day. Great team spirit Finished 2 nd overall so a very good season. Planning on 2 teams for next year
Senior Division 1B County P W D L F A GF GA PTS Devonshire Surrey Hampshire Sussex Cornwall Avon Devonshire Kent (withdrawn) Vets: Veterans Division 1A County P W D L F A GF GA PTS Avon Berkshire Essex Middlesex Surrey Kent Middlesex Buckinghamshire Surrey 1: Lost Sally to injury for whole season so Michelle promoted to fill her place and did a great job. Otherwise a settled team Great first weekend winning 2/3 which proved to be vital Second weekend was a struggle and looked like we would be favourites to be relegated but a great win 6-4 over Kent 2 proved to be the decider and Surrey 1 lived to fight another day. Good contributions from all players at different times of the season and a great team spirit. Surrey 2: Veterans Division 2B County P W D L F A GF GA PTS Worcestershire Leicestershire Hertfordshire Northamptonshire Surrey Bedfordshire Leicestershire Worcestershire
2 nd team devastated from square one with Des & Selwyn declining to play due to issue with promotion last year. Musa injured and Tony having holidays and health issues. So, the only regular was Tim Waller with make shift teams having to be generated for each weekend. I hosted the division at BATTS, which I will be reluctant to do again. On the playing side, the team did very well considering the ever changing personnel, with Tim leading from the front. Sally came back from injury late in the season so was used to bolster the team and ensure survival in Div. 2. Thanks to all those who stepped in at short notice and made the journeys to BATTS. Surrey 3 & 4: County P W D L F A GF GA PTS Sussex Middlesex Kent Essex Hertfordshire Sussex Surrey Surrey I hosted at Spicers, thanks to Pat for her assistance. This made getting teams together easier but given the effective loss of the 2 nd team, the knock-on consequences of shuffling people around told on the 3 & 4 th teams results. Without a mid-game injury to Simon Vine the 3rds would have secured another win and their season would have looked more respectable. At times, we struggled to field a 4 th team and it was only through the registration or several new players prior to the last weekend that we were able to fulfil the fixture. This late recruitment drive did however result in several additions to the squad and so we go into next season with a much more positive outlook. Summary: It was my first year in the role of County Captain and I must admit the challenge and workload was a lot greater than I expected. At the beginning of the season we had on paper the makings of 5 excellent teams. Federico & Adam help considerably with the Seniors and that element passed off largely without incident. The demise of the Vets 2 nd team rather scuppered the plans for the Vets and it became a continual battle to get teams together. Late withdrawals were a continual problem and it required a lot of chasing around to find people who could step in. As the season went on the restrictions on who could play for each time became tighter as players became tied to certain teams due to the number of previous appearances.
Looking forward we have made some excellent new signings and discovered several new players who are all good quality additions. The Seniors are looking to expand to 2 teams which we have encouraged, with Adam leading the 2nds. We are to resurrect an Over 60s team captained by Robin Pretty. The Vets teams are more spread across the divisions now which I think will make things easier as it gives up a greater spread of standard into which to place people. I am optimistic we can get at least one promotion in the Vets next year. I feel that the selection mechanism did not work wonderful well last year and I would like to see a more team orientated selection process whereby we try to keep more settled teams and thereby encourage a feeling of belonging and a desire to make repeated appearances. I also feel that this will allow more delegation to the individual team captains thus reducing the load on the County Captain. Thanks to Kim for all her assistance during the season. 9 We are looking for someone to revamp the Surrey Table Tennis Association website and run it afterwards. LSSTTA AGM 2017 SECRETARY S REPORT by Neil Williams Last year proved to be generally successful. Some of the good news: Last June we had a large number of competitors in the Jack Petchey Individual Finals James Smith won the Boys U19 title and Richard Pelc was runner-up The Team Finals in November/December went very smoothly with all teams turning up and arriving in time. Well done to all the teachers and SGOs for making this possible. Results of Team Finals: BOYS: U11: Winners Barnes, R-U Whitgift U13: Winners Wallington, R-U Wilson s, Plate: Turing House U16: Winners Wallington, R-U Langley Park, Plate: Coombe U19: Winners Whitgift, R-U Wallington GIRLS: U11: Winners Barnes U13 Winners : Richmond Park Academy U16 Winners : Harris South Norwood U19 Coloma We entered eight teams in the Jack Petchey Zone Finals. 3 teams qualified for the regional finals. Of these Barnes Primary U11 Boys and Whitgift U19 Boys reached the National Finals and Barnes U11 Girls were runners-up. Barnes came 3 rd and Whitgift won the title: a great achievement by both schools. Many thanks to Wilson s, Wallington, Stanley Park and Whitgift who provided venues, which meant that all age groups had final events. Individual Finals: We had a total of 110 entries, which was good, but came from a limited number of schools. We need somehow to encourage competitors from more schools to enter. They do not have to be able to win. Schools which have benefited from the Jack Petchey Foundation s generosity are expected to offer facilities and enter county competitions, but rarely do. We entered competitors in all 8 age groups in the ESTTA Finals, along with 4 more from Surrey. U19 Boys: George Hazell reached the semi-final U19 Girls: Isabelle Joubeily was a quarter-finalist Both have been offered a place in the England team for the International in Jersey. U16 Boys: Jamie Nordin lost in the quarter-final to the eventual winner.
Of the Surrey entries Danielle Kelly reached the U16 Girls quarter-final and Ollie Maric-Murray was a semi-finalist in the Boys U11 event. Many thanks to Margot Fraser for running the competitions and Wallington and Whitgift for providing venues. Leagues: A rather disappointing year, with far too many matches unplayed. U16A and U13A were mainly complete. U19s played only about half their matches and the U16A and U16B leagues did not really take place. 3 schools withdrew after confirming their teams in September. Schools should only enter teams if they intend to complete all fixtures according to the timetable provided. League Rules need further consideration. Under 19; Winners Wallington 20 points : R/U Whitgift 15 points Under 16A : Winners Wallington A: 41 points; R/U Whitgift 37 points Under 13A; Winners Bishop Thomas Grant 31 points: R/U Wallington A 30 points. Many thanks to Lindsey Smith for organising the Leagues. Surrey Table Tennis gave us a grant of 100 and have promised a similar grant for the coming year. We are very grateful for their support. NW
