1 Truro Junior Hockey Club Player and Parent Welcome Pack Season Welcome First of all I would like to thank you for choosing to join Truro Junior Hockey Club. Hockey is a fast and skilful game where the highest standards of respect and sportsmanship are expected. As a club we aim to engender a lifelong passion to play and enjoy hockey and provide a positive environment where players can develop their skills and expand their circle of friends. The aim of this welcome pack is to: Introduce you to the volunteers who keep the club running Provide you with a one stop reference guide Inform you of our policy for player personal protection Provide details of competitions Introduce you to the England Hockey Single System Tony Roberts Chairman Who s who at Truro Junior Hockey Club. The Committee is responsible for the day to day management of the club. Its Officers are elected at the annual AGM which is held after the end of each season normally in June or July. 2 Welfare Officer: Klair Bishop Committee Members: Kelly Jefferies (Coaching) Simon Jeffery (Coaching) Alison Powell (Social Secretary) The Committee holds regular formal meetings and an Annual General Meeting to which members are invited to attend. The Committee members are usually present for all or part of the Sunday training sessions. Key Points of Contact: Club Website: The club website has general information about the club including details of training session times, fixtures and results. Any changes to normal training session times will be posted on the website. In the event of a cancelation the Club Secretary will try to contact members by and/or by telephone. The website also includes detailed information concerning our club rules, codes of conduct, safeguarding, equality and equity policies. All members should familiarize themselves with the club rules and codes of conduct for players, parents and coaches. 3 Training Session Times: Sundays at Penair Astro: U10s U12s Over 12 Girls Over 12 Boys 1pm to 2pm 2pm to 3pm 3pm to 4pm 4pm to 5pm Player Personal Protection: The club recommends that all players wear mouthguards and shin guards. Players must sign in before every training session. Players will only be allowed to play without a mouth guard if parental consent is given. Parents will be asked to read the clubs policy on mouthguards and then sign a waiver. In the event that a parent leaves before consent is given then a club official will attempt to contact the parent by telephone to seek verbal consent. If parental consent still cannot be obtained then the member will NOT be allowed to play. Mouth guards can be obtained from most local sports shops. These are available in various impact strengths and need to be moulded at home using hot water before use. For hockey we would recommend a high impact strength mouth-guard. High impact custom fitted mouth-guards may also available from your dentist. Mouth-guard manufacturers such as Opro do make annual visits to a number of schools in Truro. Registration and Membership Benefits Unless you are still on your three week trial period membership must be completed by Sunday 25 th September. After this date membership will be offered to players on our waiting list on a first come first served basis. All fees must be paid by 2 nd October. Membership fees for the season 2016/2017 will be 50 for the first child and 40 for each sibling. The membership fee for adults who wish to participate in Badgers hockey (Over 12s boys/men and Over 12s girls/ladies matches) is 5. Once you have paid your membership fee please remember to collect your membership card. If you present your membership card to Whirlwind Sports on Lemon Quay they will give you a 10% discount on all hockey related goods (excluding sale items).

4 Competitions The Cornwall Hockey Association run a series of age group club competitions throughout the season. Medals are awarded to the winners of each competition after the final round of matches. The Cornwall Hockey Association also organise an annual 7-a-side County Championships for U10 Boys, U10 Girls, U12 Boys and U12 Girls. These are normally held at Penair in March. The winners and runners up in each of these competitions are then invited to represent Cornwall in the West Regional Finals at Clifton School in Bristol. The Regional winners of the U12 competitions can progress to the National finals. This season the club has entered England Hockey s National U14 Girls 11-a-side competition. The Tier 1 stage of these competitions involves playing fixtures across the South West region. The top teams will progress to a regional final and then to a national final in London. Age eligibility for all the competitions above are determined by the player being under the specified age for each competition on the 31 st August 2016.

5 Club Uniform Players are required to wear club uniform at all training sessions. The club uniform comprises a green polo shirt or senior club shirt, black shorts or a black skort and green socks. Green polos, black skorts and green socks are held in stock and are available on request from either Emma Spouse or Tony Roberts. Black shorts can be obtained from any sports shop. We also encourage players to purchase a warm black training hoodie. These need to be sized before they are ordered. They are supplied with the players name or nick-name on the back. Hoodies can be personalised with stars at the start and end of the players name or with small stars to replace the dots over I s and j s. In Cornwall there are centres at Bude, Truro School & Pool. These run for 10 weeks from late September to early December. For Truro and Pool the sessions will be on a Friday or Monday evenings depending on the age group.

6 Players can be nominated by their club and/or school. It is our policy to nominate all players who we think are capable of training with the County squad. If too many players are nominated for a particular centre the JDC may require players to pass an assessment. The age requirements for County selection are different to those specified above for the CHA competitions. This year players born in or before 2005 will be eligible. For players born in 2005 the County training will finish after the initial 10 weeks of the JDC. Those born before 2004 will be invited to an assessment at their local JDC and those who are successful from across the county will be invited to join the Truro Junior Assessment Centre (JAC). This runs for 10 weeks from January. The climax of this activity is the opportunity to represent Cornwall in a regional tournament. Those selected for the finals will be assessed and if successful will be invited to join the Joint Regional Progression Centre (JRPC). Participation in the single system provides players with the opportunity to progress from club to county, to regional and ultimately international representative hockey. Last updated: September 2016
