WELCOME Good a&ernoon and welcome to the ASM Stadium for this Evo- S:k League South, East Division match between Thame United and Marlow. A warm welcome to all the Directors, Players and Supporters of Marlow and we wish them an enjoyable stay and a safe, if short, journey home. For all concerned Tuesday was, in footballing terms, a night to forget and one of those results that you get now and again in football, but one that, thankfully, we have not been on the wrong end of for a while. That said, one of the features of our season to date (amongst a number of posi:ve elements) has been the manner in which we have reacted to a defeat and, no doubt, we will be looking for the same response again this a&ernoon. Indeed, if Tuesday is not mo:va:on enough, the manner of our defeat earlier in the season at Marlow (3-1) s:ll s:cks in the throat, so there is more reason to today to look to get a return to winning ways. Marlow come in to the game sinng sixteenth in the league having had, by the standards they set last year, a somewhat indifferent season. Equally, they come in to the game having not played for a couple of weeks due to the adverse weather condi:ons, with their last match (on 24 th February) being a 4-0 defeat to Barton Rovers. A&er today we travel to Fleet Town next weekend, before welcoming Hanwell Town to the ASM Stadium for a re- arranged league fixture on Tuesday 20 th March. The recently postponed match at Hartley Wintney has now been re- scheduled for Tuesday 10 th April whilst, at the :me of wri:ng, a date has yet to be set for the match at Ashford Town (Middx) that was postponed last weekend. Elsewhere the Reserves travel to league leaders Penn and Tylers Green this a&ernoon in the Hellenic League Division 1 East this a&ernoon, whilst the Development side are at home to Aston Clinton. The Youth Team are also in ac:on tomorrow in the semi- final of the County Cup as they make the trip to Banbury United. Finally, my thanks to our match sponsors this a&ernoon, Way Builders Ltd and J Benne] and Sons your support is much appreciated. Enjoy the match. Jake Collinge

FROM THE DUGOUT Good A&ernoon, Today we welcome Mark Bartley and his player s and staff from Marlow who have made the short trip up the M40 for this Southern League fixture. Tuesday night s defeat at AFC Rushden was disappoin:ng in that we didn t deserve to win but I don t think the margin was a fair reflec:on on the way we played. For me they are the best side we have played this season and were clinical in front of goal, I am sure they will go on and become champions, good luck to them. The Cambridge City game on the 24 th February was probably the performance of the season from my perspec:ve. As a defender I used to love a clean sheet and a 1-0 win!! I thought we were very good in possession but really well organised when we were out of possession. That has been the difference this year because at :mes you have to be pa:ent and frustrate sides because we know we can score goals which is great asset to have. Today s fixture presents another tough challenge, it s good to report that Liam Tack has now served his suspension and is available for selec:on and skipper Ben Sturgess might also be involved today a&er 6 weeks off with an injury. We are going to need the squad in the coming weeks with the fixtures coming thick and fast. Thanks for your con:nued support See you in the bar! Blaikey, Westy & Hugh

THAME UNITED HISTORY A&er a mid- table finish the Club moved to the newly formed Southern League, Division 1 West. In October 2004 the Club again reached the FA Cup 4th qualifying round and finished the season 11th in the league. Mark West le& to join Slough Town and defender Tony Joyce was appointed player /manager. Thame United were formed in 1883 making it one of Oxfordshires' oldest clubs. The early years were spent in various Oxfordshire Leagues and in 1906, 1909 and 1910 Thame won the Oxfordshire Senior Cup and the Senior League in 1907,1908, 1910, 1930 and A switch to the Hellenic League then brought further success culmina:ng in the Hellenic League :tle in and , as well as being runners up in , and The Oxfordshire Senior Cup was won in both 1976 and 1981 but a poor spell in the mid eigh:es preceded a crossing of the pyramid in to join the South Midlands League. The Club finished runners up in both and before eventually winning the :tle in Thame received the green light to join the Diadora League in 1991/ saw the Club win the Division 2 Championship with 93 points - an 11 point margin. In 1995/96 the Club reached the 3rd Round Qualifying in the FA Cup and the FA Trophy. In the league we finished a creditable 13th in our first ever season in the Isthmian League Division One. Andy Sinno] was appointed first team manager in June 1997 and, with a drama:cally reduced opera:ng budget, the side were relegated into Ryman Division Two. The Club bounced straight back into Ryman Division One and reached the semi- finals of the FA Vase. 1999/2000 saw the Club come within two points of achieving promo:on to the Premier Division. 2000/2001 season the team lead the way for most of the season, punng together a club record of 12 consecu:ve league wins but a slump in form in the la]er part of the season resulted in a 5th place finish. A mid- table finish followed in 2001/2002 season but the Oxfordshire Senior Cup was retained. Mark West was appointed player/ manager when Andy le& United during the Summer of In October 2003 the Club reached the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first :me in its history, before being beaten 1-2 by Conference side Farnborough Town. By July 2005 the Club were in financial trouble and, following a visit from Bailiffs ac:ng on behalf of HMRC, the landlord enforced a clause in the tenancy agreement and evicted the club from Windmill Road. However, shortly therea&er Thame United reached a formal agreement with the new owners of Windmill Road that secured 1.7 million to enable a new facility to be constructed in the town and, a&er several op:ons had been explored and found to be available, se]led on Church Farm on the northern edge of the town. Whilst the Club progressed procurement of the new site, and the necessary planning permission, a ground share agreement was reached with neighbours Aylesbury United and, with the side struggling at the foot of the Southern League Division 1 West, Tony Joyce resigned in December 2005, with a new joint managerial partnership of Richard Searl and Alan Thorne appointed. Relega:on to the Hellenic League was confirmed later in the season. A ground share agreement was reached with AFC Wallingford for the 2006/07 season. Mark West returned to the Club mid- way through the season but could not save the Club from relega:on to the Hellenic League Division 1 East. The 2007/08 season provided greater stability for the Club, with Mark West and new assistant, Frank Thompson, looking a&er first team affairs. A mid- table finish resulted, which was followed by a ninth placed finish in 2008/ /10 saw the Club win the Division 1 East :tle by six points and reclaim their place in the Premier Division. The 2010/11 season was the most significant in the Club s recent history. With work on a new 3.1m ground at Meadow View Park commencing in March 2010, United returned to Thame at the ASM Stadium on 11 December 2010, just over five years a&er their enforced evic:on from the town. Boas:ng eight pitches, a floodlit 3G training pitch and 8000sq& clubhouse, United now have one of the best spor:ng facili:es in the County. The official opening against Oxford United on 18th January 2011 set a record crowd of 1,382. Season was one of the most successful in the recent history of the Club. Going the whole league season without losing at home, United were crowned Hellenic League Premier Division Champions on the final day of the season, defea:ng Henley Town 9-0 to over- turn a seven goal deficit. United were duly promoted to the Evo- S:ck Southern Football League, returning a&er a spell of twelve years away.

MARLOW FC HISTORY It was on November 22nd 1870 at the Compleat Angler Hotel on the banks of the Thames that Great Marlow Football Club was formed and so began the history of one of the oldest clubs in the country. Marlow have the unique dis:nc:on of being the only club to have applied for entry to every compe::on since its incep:on although they were unable to compete once in the 1910/11 season. In 1882 they reached the semi- finals where they lost out to eventual winners Old Etonians 0-5 at the Oval. Two Amateur Cup semi- finals and a host of Berks & Bucks Senior Cup wins were among many honours won in this golden age. In 1894 Marlow rejected the opportunity to join the newly- formed Southern League in order to retain their amateur status and allowed To]enham Hotspur to begin their climb to the top flight by taking their placethe Club's ground un:l 1919 was Crown Meadow, now the Riley Recrea:onal Ground. An enforced move to the Star Meadow (which was unfenced) and the worsening financial situa:on resulted in the need to play in a more local compe::on than the Great Western Suburban League and Marlow joined the Reading and District League. This was a dark period for the Club and worse was to come when the Club's long- serving Honorary Secretary Alfred Davis, who had held office at the Club since 1891, died in It was decided that a finng memorial to him would be to provide a permanent home for Marlow F.C. An appeal proved to be very successful and the Alfred Davis Memorial Ground saw its first game in The picturesque grandstand dates from 1930 s and followed the establishment of an Associa:on who issued Share Cer:ficates in connec:on with a Building Fund and was built to celebrate the Club's revival and the Spartan League Division Two championship. Apart from a war- :me break Marlow con:nued in the Spartan League un:l 1965 when entry was gained to the Athenian League Division Two. Promo:on to Division One was secured in season 1970/71. Here Marlow remained un:l 1984 when they joined the Isthmian League. Having finished bo]om of Division Two in 1985 the appointment of Mike Keen as Manager heralded a rapid rise in status. Promo:on to Division One came the very next season and then a&er just one season in Division One the championship was won a&er a two horse race with Grays Athle:c and along with it promo:on to the Premier Division. Here Marlow found things much tougher and Christmas arrived without a win and from a posi:on at the foot of the table r however a late season Houdini act saw them escape and secure their new- found status. When Keen le& his assistant Dave Russell took over and brought in Laurie Craker as Coach. Under them good :mes returned and the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup was won for the first :me that century with a victory over local rivals Wycombe Wanderers and the F.A Cup First Round was reached, also for the first :me that century, with an away :e at West Bromwich Albion the reward. Season 1992/93 saw even more F.A Cup success with progression this :me to the Third Round and a :e with To]enham Hotspur that was switched to White Hart Lane where almost saw the Blues give a very creditable performance. The Diadora (Isthmian) League Cup was won to finish the season on a high note by bea:ng Molesey. 1993/94 must rate as the most successful ever with Marlow again reaching the First Round of the F.A Cup where a 0-2 home defeat against Plymouth Argyle was featured on T.V, while in the league a highest- ever posi:on of third was achieved. The Berks & Bucks Senior Cup was won again with a 1-0 win over local rivals Chesham Utd. to round off a highly memorable season. At the end of that season Russell and Craker le& for Slough Town and took several players with them. A new squad and slow start le& a lot to do in the league and relega:on followed. In the F.A Cup things were very different. The First Round saw Division Two table- toppers Oxford Utd. defeated. 2-0 at Oak Tree Road and the Blues became the first winners of the Li]lewoods Pools' Giant Killers award. A&er another home victory over Trophy holder's Woking secured a place in the Third Round Proper once again and a trip to Swindon Town, who had been in the Premier League the season before, where the home side were grateful to progress by a 2-0 scoreline. Season 1995/96 saw a finish in in eighth spot but the following one got off to a terrible start from which the Club was never able to recover and despite victories over virtually all the top sides, relega:on was confirmed on the last day of the season. Russell returned for the following season and with him high hopes but the season proved to be one of under- achievement and a new team of Graham Pritchard and Derek Sweetman took over for 1998/99 and provided a period of stability which saw finishes in mid- table. Following the departure of Pritchard just before season 2001/02 Sweetman took over the reins and his first game in charge saw the capture of the Associate Members Trophy in a final held over from the previous season. The side finished the season in 9th posi:on in the league the highest for some :me before restructuring saw them move from Division Two to the newly- formed Division One North for season 2002/03 where an 11th place finish was achieved. In the F.A Trophy they progressed to the Third Round before going out at Dagenham & Redbridge.Marlow again found themselves in new surroundings the following season having been moved to Division One South and although inconsistent form saw them finish 16th in the league they again had an excellent run in the F.A Trophy which took them to the Fourth Round for the first :me in their history. Several notable victories saw them through before a strong Tamworth outit ended their run at Oak Tree Road. The reorganiza:on of the non- league game saw them in different surroundings for the fourth :me in four seasons with entry into The Southern League where they competed in the Western Division for season 2004/05 and finished in 13th spot. Kevin Stone had moved into the manager s seat towards the end of the season and enjoyed a great run. 2005/06 and in the same league and in more familiar surroundings seemed to suit the side and for most of the season they hovered around the play- off posi:ons and eventually finished in 6th spot. A play- off spot was confirmed on the final day of the season and although a 1-2 defeat at Brackley Town followed the Club were pleased with the progress. Season 2006/07 in the South & West Division saw a successful run of results promise another play- off berth but a last day defeat at Winchester City saw them fall just short whilst season 2007/08 was a li]le more disappoin:ng with some very good results failing to offset a poor run around February/March with a final finish just outside the play- offs resul:ng.season 2008/09 saw the Club moved yet again into the Midland Division and another inconsistent season followed finishing with a defeat to Windsor & Eton in the final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup at M.K Dons stadium. The following two seasons saw some good results against the top sides but indifferent ones against the lower teams and ended with mid- table finishes even though a bright start in 2010/11 saw them briefly at the top of the table. 2011/12 did not start at all badly but soon developed into one where victories were very hard to come by and following a string of poor results long- standing manager Stone le& just a&er Christmas. Assistant Steve Croxford took over and although performances and results improved towards the end it was not enough to avoid relega:on. Season 2012/13 found Marlow in in the Uhlsport Hellenic League with a new management team headed by Mark Bartley eager to recapture some of the glories of the past and this they did, winning the league championship by a 16 point margin and scoring 123 goals in 36 games to return to the Southern League where the next two seasons saw them consolidate with finishes in and 17 th and 11 th posi:ons respec:vely. For 2015/16 Marlow were moved once again to the South & West division which again meant increased travelling and associated costs and the loss of some key players and several local derbies, making life much more difficult than it really needed to be. In the circumstances a mid- table finish was achieved and a return to the Central Division for 2016/17 aided a finish in 4 th place (on goal difference)and achieved a play- off place, with third- placed Barton Rovers running out 2-0 victors at their ground..

At their mee:ng on February 6, the Commi]ee decided the principles to be applied when alloca:ng clubs at the two steps. It is clarified that this is for season 2018/19 and the make- up of clubs in future seasons may alter this approach. At Step 3, the decision is to implement a north division, a central band from the east coast to the west of Birmingham, together with south west and south east divisions, as shown in The NLP s graphic below le&. The Southern League is to administer the pink and yellow areas, the Isthmian League the green area and the Northern Premier League to administer the area coloured black. The Commi]ee decision was taken a&er hearing the results of two exercises, the first using the tables at the end of last season (2016/17) and the second based on the tables as of January It is emphasised by the FA that, for the :me being, this is a guide only and they have deliberately not included names of clubs because the full alloca:on can only be made when the iden::es of the cons:tuent clubs are known. At Step 4, the seven areas will be divided as shown in The NLP s graphic below. The Isthmian League has responsibility for the green, blue and orange areas, the Southern League administers the yellow and pink areas and the Northern Premier League in the area coloured black. The Northern Premier League is calling a mee:ng of its clubs to decide whether to remain with a north/south split or to change to an east/west alloca:on.
