3 ood afternoon and G welcome to this Bank Holiday Monday match against our neighbours Thame United. It has been a mixed start to the season for the Ducks, with a strong performance in the opening fixture against Kempston Rovers, but then suffering a defeat against a strong Didcot Town side in midweek, where two late goals for the home side overshadowed what was an improved second-half performance. Thame will undoubtedly be after a degree of revenge for the heavy 7-2 loss the Ducks dished out at the end of last season. But this game promises to be tougher for United, with today s opponents having comfortably won Welcome Harry Jones takes on Kempston Rovers their league opener away against Sutton Coldfield Town 4-1. The Red Kites then followed that up with a narrow 3-2 victory over North Leigh last Tuesday evening. Their team certainly isn t short of goals, so the Ducks defence is sure to be tested this afternoon. Let s hope Ben s team can display up the resilience and quality on display in the previous game here at The Meadow, and deliver another victory this afternoon. No matter the outcome of today s match, we wish the players, officials and supporters of Thame an enjoyable afternoon and safe journey home. Up the Ducks! 4 About Aylesbury United Aylesbury United was founded in 1897 when three local sides, Night School FC, The Printing Works and Aylesbury Town, decided to merge. The club, nicknamed the Ducks, has experienced some incredible highs over its 112- year history but are now without a home ground to call their own. United played in local leagues before joining the Spartan League in 1908 where it remained until the Second World War. Fame and the FA Cup Aylesbury turned semi-professional in 1976 and joined the Southern League, kicking off the club s most successful period. In 1983 the club appointed Trevor Gould as manager, and a year later a local lad called Cliff Hercules made his debut, hanging up his boots some 20-years later smashing club records with 669 appearances and 301 goals. Promotion to the Southern Premier was 4 aylesburyunitedfc.co.uk achieved and the Ducks moved to their new Buckingham Road stadium. Gould s talented squad secured the Southern League Championship in and were promoted to the Vauxhall Conference. That year the Ducks became the only ever non-league side to take on the full England team, as more than 6,000 packed into Buckingham Road. Between 1985 and 1992, Aylesbury boasted the best FA Cup record of any side outside the Football League, reaching at least the first round proper every season. And in the club became famous for the Duck Walk celebration as Aylesbury reached the third round, losing to Premier League Queen s Park Rangers at Loftus Road. Ups and downs In the Ducks were pipped to the Isthmian League title by Sutton United and the following season were fighting for survival on and off the pitch. Despite defeating Football League side Reading in the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup, for the second time in four seasons, the club was relegated to Division One for the first time in their history. But nothing was to match the low point of summer Former chairman Bill Carroll cut ties with the club he had been involved with since 1997 having failed to convert the Buckingham Road playing surface to a third generation artificial surface. Local businessman Graham Read took over the club, but Aylesbury was left homeless after its lease expired. Since then the Ducks have been forced to play their home matches out of Aylesbury while the committee work hard to keep the club alive. The campaign to Bring the Ducks Home generated plenty of publicity, but sadly nothing concrete in terms of a new home for the club. In the interim, the teams plays home matches at neighbour Chesham United.

6 Thame United were formed in The early years were spent in various Oxfordshire Leagues and Thame won the Oxfordshire Senior Cup in 1906, 1909 and 1910, and the Senior League in 1907,1908, 1910, 1930 and A switch to the Hellenic League brought further success culminating in the Hellenic League title in and The Oxfordshire Senior Cup was won in both 1976 and 1981 but a poor spell in the mid eighties preceded a crossing of the pyramid in to join the South Midlands League. The club finished runners up for two years before winning the title in Thame joined the Diadora League in saw the club win the Division 2 Championship with 93 points an 11 point margin. The team lead the way for most of the season, putting together a club record of 12 consecutive league wins but a slump in form 6 aylesburyunitedfc.co.uk Today s visitors resulted in fifth place finish. The Oxfordshire Senior Cup was retained in By July 2005 the club was in financial trouble and following a visit from bailiffs the landlord evicted the club from Windmill Road. Shortly after Thame reached a formal agreement with the new owners of Windmill Road that secured 1.7 million to enable a new facility to be constructed in the town. While the club progressed procurement of the new site, a ground share agreement was reached with neighbours Aylesbury United. Current manager Mark West returned mid-way through the season but could not save the club from relegation to the Hellenic League Division 1 East. The season provided greater stability for the team. A mid-table finish resulted, which was followed by a ninth placed finish in saw the club win the Division 1 East title by six points and reclaim their place in the Premier Division. The season was the most significant in the club s recent history. With work on a new 3.1m ground at Meadow View Park commencing in March 2010, United returned to Thame at the ASM Stadium in December 2010, just over five years after their eviction. Boasting eight pitches, a floodlit 3G training pitch and 8000 sqft clubhouse, United now have one of the best sporting facilities in the county. The official opening against Oxford United on 18 January 2011 set a record crowd of 1,382. The season was one of the most successful in recent history. Going the whole league season without losing at home, United were crowned Hellenic League Premier Division Champions on the final day of the season, defeating Henley Town 9-0 to over-turn a seven goal deficit. United were duly promoted to the Evo-Stik Southern Football League.

9 Charity partnership The Ducks pose with Florrie Bear, Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity s mascot F lorence Nightingale Hospice Charity has been selected as the club s charity partner for the season. The local charity, which provides palliative and end-of-life care to those with life-limiting illnesses across Aylebury Vale and beyond, was chosen in a vote by supporters last season. The Hospice needs to raise around 750,000 each year to ensure the funding of its services. Emma Carroll, community fundraising manager, said: We are delighted to be working with everyone at Aylesbury United, and we are looking forward to a successful football season. You will see our charity banner up at the Chesham ground all season to proudly tell everyone about the partnership. The team s warm up shirts will also feature the charity s logo, and you will also see our volunteers carrying out bucket collections at certain games through the season, ably assisted on occasion by our mascot Florrie Bear. We will also let you know about our fundraising events that we think may interest you. Events coming up include the Colour Rush run (or walk)at Green Park in Aston Clinton on 7 October, and the 25th annual Aylesbury Beer and Sausage Festival which takes place on 2728 October at Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School. Less visible but just as important is the fact that the club s directors have pledged 1 each to the charity for every goal scored by the team, Emma added. All the more reason for us to hope for a bumper season full of goals for the Ducks!
