FOREWORD At the North Riding County FA, we are committed to the ongoing development of female football, we fully endorse the FA Girls Talent Development Programme and encourage the goal to develop young talent in an elite player environment. The North Yorkshire Girls Centre of Excellence is an essential part of our continuing plans to develop female football within our county. The centre makes a vital contribution in identifying the most talented young female players from around our region, offering these young players the opportunity to maximise their potential. The Centre has an excellent range of high quality facilities available at York College coupled with a highly qualified and committed Development Team, who create a positive learning environment for all of the players. It is a well-organised and progressive programme, committed to achieving excellence. The NRCFA for its part, are pleased to promote the partnership and support of this Centre of Excellence. TOM RADIGAN Chief Executive, NRCFA 3
An excellent Centre of Excellence with the real focus on developing the player through appropriate practice FA TECHNICAL MONITORING VISIT: 4
Having been involved with the North Yorkshire Centre since it was established in 2007, I have found it a privilege to work with the finest players and the most dedicated coaches in the area. I can truly say that everyone involved in this centre lives up to the ethos of being committed to excellence. I have been involved with football all of my life as a professional player and since then in a coaching and development capacity and as a coach educator. The facilities here at York College are second to none. The players benefit from an excellent learning environment, created by coaches who understand what is required to perform at the highest level and who harness the ability and commitment of the players to reach their full potential. This is an exciting time for female football, player participation is growing at a fantastic rate and the development of the game can only benefit from the FA s Girls Development Talent programme. I know through my own daughter who is currently part of the England Under 19 squad, the commitment and support that is required to make it to the top. The growth of the female game is tremendous and I am personally committed, to making sure that in our region we do everything we can to fully develop not only talented female players, but also the game as a whole. GORDON STANIFORTH Sports Development Department York College. 5

The facility is excellent for players and parents and supports the creation of a good coaching environment for the player to develop in FA MONITOR REPORT It is of paramount importance that the Centre continue to progress & maintain their very high standards, with their ultimate goal of achieving excellence, the ongoing working relationship between the College & Centre enables them to increase and improve the young players experience, in this player centered environment. These facilities will be further enhanced with the completion of 2 brand new grass pitches in Sept As part of the FA elite female player programme, fitness is a key element of the overall player development. We monitor fitness and injuries at the centre to make sure that we address any concerns at an early stage. The centre physiotherapist provides treatment, rehabilitation plans, fitness support and physical well-being advice to the players at the centre in a fully equipped specialist physiotherapy room. 7
CENTRE PERFORMANCE. The North Yorkshire Girls Centre of Excellence has, and always will be, focussed on developing players to reach their full potential and to perform at the highest level. The Centre s Development Plan focuses on the holistic education of individual mastery, units of players and team performance. As a former senior professional involved in the game, I have been very impressed at the standard, progress and development of the North Yorkshire Centre of Excellence for Girls. The Centre ensures its players are the core component of its values. It provides a holistic approach to all corners of development, supporting, guiding and listening to the young female players COLIN COOPER Pro Licence Coach / Parent An extremely well run and organised Centre. Excellent facilities FA ADMINISTRATIVE MONITORING VISIT. 8
The North Yorkshire Centre is a wonderful example of a player centred development programme. The Centre supports all aspects of age appropriate learning, and has become an ideal base for Coach Development, where all staff are encouraged and supported to continually progress their own development pathway. The FA Skills Team have worked closely with the Centre endorsing Coaches and players knowledge and understanding of suitable Coaching styles and methods. Our ultimate commitment is to achieve excellence; therefore we strive to ensure that all aspects of Centre performance are addressed, including the management, administration, monitoring and evaluation. Each member of our Development Team maintain a fully documented Portfolio, meticulously recording all features of player information, to carefully assess player performance in all 4 corners of development. It has been a pleasure to be associated with this Centre of Excellence. GEMMA GRAINGER Tesco FA Skills Team Leader 9
CREATING COMPETENT, COMMITTED COACHES 10
A CENTRE COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE IN ALL AREAS. It is essential that all Centre of Excellence Staff are fully committed and dedicated to the development of young players, the North Yorkshire Centre prides itself in attaining a recognised Continual Personal Development Policy for all it s Coaches & support team. All Coaches are FA Licenced and endorsed, the Centre has actively participated in every Regional and National FA In Service events since it s onset in Sept All staff are encouraged and assisted with their own Personal Development Plan. These include further qualification status, increasing knowledge and understanding of Youth Development by engaging in FA Youth Award Modules. Linking into CFA Workshops and In House training events, as well as keeping abreast of changes and methods updated through ongoing qualifications. Centre staff have enthusiastically participated in all the Events and Workshops detailed. We actively encourage the support of the Women s and Girls game through our attendance at several key female games. 11
A number of North Yorkshire Centre players have attended mini soccer referee courses run by the league and then help officiated at our annual girls only tournament in 2009 and 2010 where more than 80 girls teams participated. My daughter Helen attended the centre both as a player for 2 seasons and then progressed to coaching at the Centre. She has recently achieved her FA Level 2 Coaching badge and will be furthering her football career in the USA in August, none of which could have been achieved without the dedication and commitment of Gail Colling Centre Director and her dedicated and supportive team. DAVID WINTERBURN City of York Girls League Secretary The Centre plays an integral part in developing young females to stay involved in the game, our U/16 s complete an Officiating the Game Workshop prior to their departure from the Centre. They are also encouraged to participate in the CFA s Young Leader / Step into Sport Programme, from which 3 of the Centre s former players represented the county in Coaching for Hope in South Africa in 2010, and 2 of our U/16 s reaching the National Young Leaders Camp in 2009 & From the North Yorkshire Centre has successfully mentored 10 female Coaches in achieving FA Coaching and Officiating Qualifications ranging from L1 CCF, L2 CCF, L3 UEFA B, FA Youth Modules 1 & 2, L1 Coaching Disabled Footballers and L7 Referee status. These young ladies will play their part in the future development of the game, therefore our policy is to assist, support and encourage. The Centre now engages 6 FA Licenced Female Coaches, 2 female Observing Coaches and 3 female Referees. It has also developed 1 full time female FA Skills Coach and the CFA Women s and Girls Officer. 12

GRASS ROOTS. WHERE EVERYONE BENEFITS. Initially there was some apprehension surrounding the onset of this Centre, but these early fears were swiftly eased with the management & approachable co-operation from the North Yorkshire Centre. Centre personnel have attended League meetings, assisted with League Festivals and supported the City of York Girls League. The League itself has increased in the number of teams and players throughout the whole period the Centre has been operating. Teams are now very competitive and no one team now dominates the various divisions. The Centre of Excellence has made a professional impact on the female game and as the League Secretary I hope this opportunity will still be available to other young talented players from the City of York Girls League. DAVID WINTERBURN City of York Girls League Secretary. 16
A key strength of the North Yorkshire Centre, are the links that have been forged with grass roots football across the region. It has offered its services to many local Grassroots Clubs, delivering Coaching Sessions, assisting with coaches CPD and linking the community to the Centre. The Centre has also lent it s support to various aspects of female football development: Girl Guiding Football Event: North Yorkshire Sport Youth Games Programme: City of York Girls League Festivals: Girls Only Courses: County FA Girls Initiative Activities: Step into Sport: Coaching For Hope: County FA s Female Mentoring Programmes: Here Come the girls Project: School Club Link Schemes: School Sports Partnerships: FA Skills Programme: The North Yorkshire Centre truly values the commitment and dedication shown in the game at grassroots levels and will always work together to accomplish the very best opportunities available to young female players. As the NRCFA s Women & Girls Football Development Officer I have witnessed first hand, this Centre s commitment to promote female football in a positive and productive manner. It has been a leading example of support and co-operation to all levels of the Women & Girls game. It s coaching staff and players are always willing to offer their experience and encouragement to all areas of female development. The Centre has played an integral part in the mentoring of females, developing Coaches, Officials and Young Leaders.
