The original Bootle FC were formed in 1880 and played at Hawthorne Road (next to the cricket ground). They were in fact Everton FC s biggest rivals. Bootle were the first team to win the Liverpool Senior Cup competition and narrowly missed out on becoming a founder member of the football league, to Everton. In Bootle became founder members of the new Football Alliance, which soon became the second division (now the championship!). That season was the most successful as we finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where we lost to Blackburn Rovers (0-7). When the Alliance merged with the Football League in 1892, Bootle became founder members of the new Second Division. However, despite a respectable 8th place final position, the club dropped out after one season and seemingly disappeared due to financial problems. Bootle FC s place in the football league was taken by Liverpool FC. Football returned to Hawthorne Road when a new club, Bootle Athletic. was later formed with the new team initially playing in the Liverpool Leagues. In 1948 the club moved to nearby Bootle Stadium and were elected to the Lancashire Combination 2, which was won at the first attempt. However, Bootle struggled in the top-flight and after several tough seasons withdrew and folded during the campaign. In 1953, the current club was formed as Langton and played in the local leagues. After a very successful spell in the Liverpool County Combination (which we won on numerous occasions) the club reverted back to it s It s better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; and a year later joined the Lancashire Combination, which we won in 1976 and Bootle then joined the Second Division of the Cheshire County League, which was won in our first season, and we were promoted to the First Division. In 1982 the Cheshire County League was one of the leagues that merged to form the North West Counties League, which Bootle duly joined, becoming a member of the First Division. The club spent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when we unfortunately dropped into the Second Division. However, despite finishing 6th in 2002, the club dropped into the Liverpool County Combination as Bucks Park was consigned to history. In 2006 the club, with a new ground, were elected back into Division 2 of the North West Counties League. In 2009 Bootle won promotion to the NWCL Premier Division and also won the Championship. In 2009/10, our first season back in the NWCFL Premier Division Bootle finished a NWCFL highest placing of 3rd. In 2010/11 finished 6th place. They equalled the 3rd place again in saw Bootle come so close to promotion, narrowly missing out with three games to go, and eventually finishing 3rd again. However they put that disappointment aside to win the Liverpool Senior Cup for the first time in 124 years. 25

Welcome back to the Delta Taxis Stadium and welcome to the players, committee and supporters of Cammell Lairds FC. MATCHDAY PRICES 1ST TEAM: 5 ADULTS 2 CONCESSIONS UNDER 16 S FREE FREE ENTRY FOR ALL RESERVE & YOUTH GAMES: LEAGUE GAMES: 1 ENTRY SELECTED GAMES FREE ENTRY It has been a tough week personally for me and the club and I have been touched by the number of messages of support that the family, and the club has received since my uncle, our chairman passed away. It made the game on Saturday take on even more importance and I was delighted with the mentality of the players. These lads were also friends of Frank so I was delighted with how they responded. Kevin Black started his first game of the season and worked extremely hard, he will be a great asset for the rest of the season. It was also good to see Dave Moran back and, although he wasn t too busy, what he needed to do he done really well. I think we have a strong squad who are all pushing for a starting place and as a manager I want that sort of competition. We are back defending our title tonight as the current senior cup holders so Cammell Lairds will be wanting to knock the holders out.. It will mean that we will have to keep our level of performance high and make sure we take our chances when the come up. Thanks for taking the time to read my programme notes and I hope you enjoy the game. Please show your support - the players and I are extremely grateful of it. Thanks Joe Joseph Doran

FA Vase 4th Round - Newcastle Benfield 3 Congleton Town 1 Congleton Town's interest in the FA Vase ended at the hands of Newcastle Benfield, despite a spirited performance in the North East.Although they fell to defeat, the Bears gave their Northern League opponents a tough 90 minutes, and hit the woodwork four times on an afternoon when luck and refereeing decisions were not in their favour. The opening stages of the game were evenly contested as both sides weighed one another up, but gradually Congleton began to enjoy the better of the possession and created the first clear cut chances. Michael Koral fired wide after good build up play, and then Scott Sephton had two efforts in the space of a few minutes, first firing over after good build up play and then bringing out a good save from the Benfield keeper with a well struck shot. But it was the home side who took the lead in the 24th minute with a well worked goal involving some neat one touch football to set up Billy Ions, who fired home the opener from close range. That was bad enough, but worse was to come four minutes later when Benfield were awarded a contentious penalty. Matthew Worrall was deceived by the bounce of the ball when it struck him on the hand inside the penalty area, and although the referee initially waved play on, the assistant referee flagged for handball and the referee then pointed to the penalty spot. Benfield's leading scorer Paul Brayson made no mistake with the spot kick and the Bears found themselves two goals down. But the Bears hit back, and hit the woodwork twice in the space of a few minutes. Jack Graham went on a jinking run and let fly with a thunderbolt that rattled the post, and then Michael Koral picked the ball up wide on the right, cut inside on to his left foot and curled a shot that hit the crossbar. Early in the second half, the Bears struck the woodwork again, when a free kick was blocked and the ball fell to Graham who fired a shot against the post with the keeper beaten. As play flowed from end to end Martin Pearson in the Congleton goal was called on to make a great one on one save to keep the margin to one goal, but the Bears finally got the goal their play deserved with 18 minutes remaining, when Jack Graham successfully converted a penalty. The Bears threw caution to the wind and pressed forward looking for an equaliser, but were caught on the counter attack in the last minute, with Paul Brayson grabbing his second goal of the game to seal victory for Newcastle Benfield with a fine shot into the top corner of the net. 7

CAMMELL LAIRD Beginnings and Early West Cheshire League Era Cammell Laird Institute Association Football Club was established in June 1907 and was based in Conway Street, Birkenhead. Originally playing at the Old Prenton Park on Temple Road, the club played in white shirts and blue Socks and joined the West Cheshire League that year. In September 1909, the club moved to their newly enclosed ground in Park Road North, Birkenhead Park where they stayed until At the end of their first season in the Park, Lairds finished bottom but retained their Division One status after being successful with their re-election speech. After World War I ended and shipbuilding decreased, the Cammell Laird company decided to take the football club in-house, and organised a company league for twelve teams, with a representative team playing in the Wirral FA cups at Park Road North, whilst the league games were played at Bebington Oval Move to Kirklands and West Cheshire dominance NEXT UP AT HOME FOR THE BUCKS FC UTD RESERVES V BOOTLE RESERVES THURSDAY 23RD JANUARY PM KO MAINE ROAD SATURDAY 1ST FEBRUARY PM KO ABBEY HEY SATURDAY 22ND FEBRUARY PM KO In 1922 the club was re-established as Kirklands F.C. and joined Division Two of the Birkenhead League. They won the Wirral Minor B Cup in 1924, Division Two in and the Regent Cup in However, they club folded in In September 1944 the club was re-established for a second time, and again joined the West Cheshire League. They won Division Two in and , and were promoted to Division One. After winning their first Division One title in , the club went on to win it a further eighteen times between and In the club finished second, and applied to join Division Two of the North West Counties League. They were successful, and therefore joined the English football pyramid for the first time in their history.

MATCH CENTRE The rise up the pyramid Cammell Laird play in a friendly against Tranmere Rovers in 2008 Lairds won the division in their first season in to earn promotion to Division One. They also won Division One at the first attempt in the season, a season in which they also reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase, only to be beaten by Nantwich Town 5 0 on aggregate. The Lairds earned promotion to Division One of the Northern Premier League for the season for the first time in their history The season was also successful for Lairds, as they won the Cheshire Senior Cup for the first time. After finishing runners-up in , Lairds missed out on a fourth successive promotion after losing the play-off final to Eastwood Town. The club finished second again in the Season, but this time were given automatic promotion to the Premier Division because 1st Place Retford failed to meet ground criteria. However, despite finishing eighteenth in , this rule came back to haunt Lairds and the club were relegated to Division One North due to their Kirklands Stadium failing to meet the ground grading criteria. The club lost their appeal present Northern Premier League era In the season Lairds were back in the Northern Premier League Division One South, and finished 16th. In the season Lairds were transferred to the Northern Premier League Division One North to satisfy the restructuring process. Lairds finished 19th in but survived the drop. In the season, Lairds finished bottom after what was a very testing season with a lack of funds and a depleted squad. However, Durham City's request to leave the league coupled with the ground grading failure for Woodley Sports, meant Lairds were reprieved and will play in the Northern Premier League for the season. Frank McCann has kindly sponsored Paul Byrne & Dean Porter If you would like to find out what sponsorship is available please see our pdf Brochure on our website: Alternatively, please for more information: Mediateambfc@gmail.com Or secretarybfc@gmail.com 20 The season has so far represented a turning point in the club's fortunes, since the club's relegation for the northern premier league premier division, Lairds have often been in amongst the relegation threatened sides, and after a torrid season which saw lairds finish bottom of the north division, Lairds stuck with manager Tony Sullivan, and a summer which saw an intake of many players good for level 8 football, the lairds now find themselves back amongst the play-off contenders. Manager Tony Sullivan was awarded his first managerial accolade in January 2013, when he was named Manager of the Month for the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division One (North) after a fine run of results during that month. Wins over Northern Premier League Sides Marine and Chorley away in the cup helped win the award and set up a Doodson Sport Cup Quarter-final tie against Northwich Victoria. In May 2013 Lairds finished the season as runners-up to Skelmersdale United, and a semi-final win over Mossley at Kirklands set up a play-off final with Trafford on 10 May, again at Kirklands. The game finished 0-0 after full-time and 30 minutes of extra-time, so the game went to penalties, in which Lairds ultimately lost. The club will again compete in the North DIvision for the season.

THE MATCH 1-0 Saturday 18th January 2014 Bootle FC entertained Ashton Athletic at the Delta Taxis Stadium on Saturday just two days after the sad passing of Chairman Frank Doran Junior. The game was marked with a minutes silence that, once ended became rapturous applause from the 172-strong crowd in respect and all he has done for Football in the area.the game kicked off at a high tempo with Bootle taking the initiative however the visiting keeper was largely untroubled until the 7thminute, when after a low cross from Paul Byrne, Lee Thompson saw his effort saved well by the goalkeeper. Bootle continued pressing and after a great through ball by Chris Tyson, Thompson rattled a shot towards goal that crashed onto the crossbar. Soon after the Bucks were attacking again and a great control then cross from James Riley saw the excellent Ashton Athletic goalkeeper make an outstanding reflex save to again deny Thompson. Ashton started to get a foothold into the game and although they kept the ball quite well, never troubled Dave Moran in the Bootle goal. In fact it wasn't until the 36th minute when Moran had to make a save. Just on half time, probably the best move of the half involving Michael Young who's quick feet lost his marker before playing captain Paul Byrne down the line. His cut back saw Tyson's shot well blocked by the big defender. Half time 0-0 Second half again saw Bootle on the ascendancy and Young was soon involved again crashing a 20 yard drive towards goal but the keeper was again equal.the game again evened out however when substitute Tom Peterson was brought down in the box, the linesman controversially flagged the opposite way

Soon after Young received the ball some 35 yards from goal and let fly fantastic drive which was parried by the Ashton goalkeeper. From the corner Jamie Hay crashed a drive against a defender. Bootle Share The Points With Alder Another slow start from Merseyrail Bootle Ladies, saw them let in a goal in the opening 10 minutes. However, the game started to settle down and the girls started to find their feet. The game was not one of Bootle's best performances but two amazing freekicks from leading goalscorer Chelsea Penny, put the game into Bootle's hands, but a slip of concentrate in the last 2 minutes allowed Alder to rescue a point The girls are back in action Sunday 26th January when they entertain Liverpool FEDS at the Delta Taxi Stadium, 2pm. Please come and show your support. Entry is FREE It wasn't until the 79th minute that Bootle eventually made the breakthrough. Sub Daniel O'Connor received a great ball into feet from Sam Wilkie. O'Connor turned a struck a rising drive beyond the keeper and into the roof of the net. The celebrations were equally as special, as every Bootle player joined in with O'Connor as he ran over to Franks brother John behind the goal. Ashton were not out of it yet though, and good play down the left saw the visitors number 9 shoot just wide. There was controversy in the 89th minute as O'Connor raced through on goal but seemed to be clipped by the centre half. The referee saw a dive and booked O'Connor to the dismay of the Dodge Kop. The Bucks saw the game out and today was a special win to remember a great son, father, brother, uncle, friend and chairman. #UPTHEBUCKS #FORFRANKIE
