4 The original Bootle F.C. were formed in 1880 and played at Hawthorne Road. They were in fact Everton FC s biggest rivals. In Bootle became founder members of the Football Alliance, narrowly missing out on the football league to the blues. That season was the most successful as we finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where we lost to Blackburn Rovers (0-7). When the Alliance merged with the Football League in 1892, Bootle became founder members of the new Second Division. However, despite a respectable 8th place final position, the club dropped out after one season (and were replaced by neighbours Liverpool) and seemingly disappeared due to financial problems. Football returned to Hawthorne Road when a new club, Bootle Athletic. was later formed with the new team initially playing in the Liverpool Leagues. In 1948 when the club were elected to the Lancashire Combination 2, which was won at the first attempt. However, Bootle struggled in the top-flight and after several tough seasons withdrew and folded during the campaign. In 1953, the current club was formed as Langton and played in the local leagues. After a very successful spell in the Liverpool County Combination (which we won on numerous occasions) the club reverted back to it s It s better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; and a year later joined the Lancashire Combination, which we won in 1976 and Bootle then joined the Second Division of the Cheshire County League, which was won in our first season, and we were promoted to the First Division. In 1982 the Cheshire County League was one of the leagues that merged to form the North West Counties League, which Bootle duly joined, becoming a member of the First Division. The club spent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when we unfortunately dropped into the Second Division. However, despite finishing 6th in 2002, the club dropped into the Liverpool County Combination. In 2006 the club, with a new ground, were elected back into Division 2 of the North West Counties League. In 2009 Bootle won promotion to the NWCL Premier Division and also won the Championship. In 2009/10, our first season back in the NWCFL Premier Division Bootle finished a NWCFL highest placing of 3rd. In 2010/11 finished 6th place. They equalled the 3rd place again in saw Bootle come so close to promotion, narrowly missing out with three games to go, and eventually finishing 3rd again. However they put that disappointment aside to win the Liverpool Senior Cup for the first time in 124 years. 25

5 Game, MATCHDAY PRICES 1ST TEAM: 5 ADULTS 2 CONCESSIONS UNDER 16 S FREE FREE ENTRY FOR ALL RESERVE & YOUTH GAMES: LEAGUE GAMES: 1 ENTRY SELECTED GAMES FREE ENTRY Hello and welcome to the Delta Taxis Stadium for today s Northwest Counties League Premier Division game and we welcome today s opponents Alsager Town. After some decent results over the past couple of weeks we have struggled in our last two outings. Saturday at home to Norton United we had a very poor first half, and although we settled second half we left ourselves with too much to do, which concluded with me getting sent off. I would like to apologise to the team and the supporters for this. Tuesday night saw us play another difficult game against a good Ashton Athletic side where we lost by a solitary goal. It s hard to put a finger in what has changed as before these two games we shipped in 17 goals in five games. It s important that we get back to winning ways quickly to keep with the chasing pack and I still believe we can be up there near the end of the season. Thank you for all of your continued support and I hope you enjoy the game. Princey

7 Congleton Town fly the flag for our League in the FA Vase this weekend, when they host Huntingdon Town from the United Counties Premier League at Booth Street in the Third Round of the competition. After a bad day at the office for our League in the last round, only Jim Vince s side progressed through to the Third Round thanks to a comfortable 4-1 win at Borrowash Victoria, and they now have the luxury of a home draw for the first time in the competition this season. It s the first time in ten years that the Bears have reached the Third Round of the Vase, and as is often the case when the draw widens nationally, in Huntingdon Town they have the opportunity to take on opposition that they have never faced previously in a competitive game. Huntingdon is a historic market town in Cambridgeshire, situated on the banks of the River Ouse, and the town's main claim to fame is that it was the birthplace in 1599 of Oliver Cromwell. Taking note of the town's links to such an eminent figure, Huntingdon Town's nickname is "The Croms" and the club badge features a silhouette of the man himself. In the past couple of seasons Huntingdon Town have been doing their best to put the town on the map. In season , they were United Counties League Division One Champions, and subsequently promoted to Premier Division, and in their first top flight season they finished in a creditable 4th place. An excursion to South Cheshire for Saturday s game represents a trip into unknown territory for the club. It's the first time that they have reached this stage of the FA Vase, and in the years they have competed in the competition, the furthest they have ever travelled for an away game was to AFC Mansfield in the last round, who they beat after a replay. The Croms arrive in Congleton in good form, having won 13 of their 17 league games so far this season, and have drawn three and lost only one, although that impressive record is only good enough to hold down third place in the United Counties League Premier Division. They have won their last five successive games on the bounce, the most recent win being on Tuesday evening in a high profile and no doubt closely monitored game at Sleaford Town. That match saw them concede for the first time in five matches, and defensively their overall record in the league is impressive as they have conceded only 18 goals in 17 games. However, with home advantage Congleton will no doubt fancy their chances, and having suffered just one defeat in their last five games, in which they scored 13 goals, they are coming into the game in decent form themselves. Congleton Town Secretary Ken Mead summed the feeling in the home camp ahead of Saturday. "Excitement and anticipation is on the increase at Booth Street, as we prepare for the visit of Huntingdon Town this Saturday", he said. "Huntingdon Town are having a very good season so far, and are setting their own record as this is the furthest they have ever been in the competition. In the league, they have won 13 of their 17 games and have lost just the once, and with Spalding s expulsion from the competition, Huntingdon are the highest ranked representative from the United Counties League in the FA Vase. 7

8 Alsager NEXT UP AT HOME FOR THE BUCKS Town AFC LIVERPOOL Year Formed: 1968 Record Attendance: 606 v. Whitley Bay 14th November 2009 Previous Leagues: Northern Premier League Division One South Honours: NWCFL Division Two Runners up 2001/02 Leek Cup Winners 2001/02 Crewe & District Cup Runners-up 2006/07 County Affiliation: Cheshire F.A. No previous history can be found at present about the club before the 1971/72 season when Alsager FC joined the Mid Cheshire League and they finished 12th in their first two seasons. Following the 1972/73 season the club changed their name to Alsager Town and thirteen years later they were still members of the Mid Cheshire League and for most of that time had competed in Division One. For the start of the 1986/87 season they changed their name again, this time to Alsager United. They finished runners up in their second season under the United banner but for some reason they disbanded. Twelve months elapsed before the club re-formed for the 1989/90 season as Alsager United joining the Crewe League Premier Division. After two seasons the club moved back to the Mid Cheshire League Division 2 back under the Alsager FC banner, for the start of the 1991/92 season, They remained there until the end of the 1997/98 season when they moved to the Springbank Vending Midland League. Alsager finished runners up in their first season and were promoted to the North West Counties League Division 2 for the start of the 1999/2000 season. After just two seasons they again decided to change their name back to Alsager Town. The name change proved to be lucky for them as they finished in the runners-up spot with promotion to Division One. They remained in that league until the end of the 2005/06 season when they finished in third place. Due to changes being made by the FA to the non-league pyramid system Alsager were invited to step up to the Northern Premier League Division One which they did, finishing their first season in a creditable 14th place. Another 14th place finish was the outcome but the club fell foul to the ground grading regulations and with required work not completed they were relegated back to the North West Counties League Premier Division. Due this set back the top management of the club walked out. Former chairman Peter Clegg stepped in taking control of the club. Clegg appointed former Witton Albion reserves coach, Neil Gill as manager. For two seasons Neil Gill did a good job in keeping Alsager Town in the N.W.C.F.L Premier Division and then in early 2011 with finances tight the players expenses budget had to be cut and then later stopped completely. This was followed by the news that there were to be major changes at the club at the end of the season. Neil Gill, his assistant, the players and the committee walked away. Acting Chairman Mike Cross had to Act quickly and Alsagerï ½s remaining committee voted for change. Terry Greer the former Chairman of Biddulph Victoria was elected to be the new Chairman. A new management team and playing staff had to be found. Stepping into the fray were Damian Grocott and Andy Oï ½Connor they began the job of keeping Alsager Town in the N.W.C.F.L. Premier Divison. They worked hard to keep the status of the club secure which they did with three games in hand. For the 2011/12 season the club is looking to move forward with a new committee which was installed at the AGM in May their aim being to improve the club in all aspects on and off the pitch. With things going well off the pitch, new showers had been installed, the dressing rooms and some of the club house re-decorated. The ground in general had been given a face lift when on the night of the Monday 11th July a catastrophic fire destroyed the office and part of the dressing rooms and club house, the whole building had to be demolished due the asbestos construction. The electricity was cut off due to the damage caused with the switch boxes etc. Following the disaster the committee have worked tirelessly to get things in to place so that football could return to The Town ground. The committee the N.W.C.F.L. were superb in the way they switched fixtures for The Bullets due to their problems, 99% of their games were played away from home until the November. A rebuilding programme got underway and things went well both on and off the pitch for the season due to the massive help from BAE Systems and their contractors, who helped in rebuilding the changing rooms so that football could return. At the end of the season John Brown, manager of the first eleven resigned as did the manager of the reserves. Chairman Terry Greer soon had replacements with former Tottenham Hotspur player Andy Turner taking over the reigns of the first team and Andy Ratcliffe Congleton Towns former Reserves Manager taking over the reserves who had just been promoted by invitation to the Staffs County Senior League Premier Division. Terrys gang (The workers) then set about completing work around the new changing room complex which included the interior painting. Planning permission was sort after to build a new club house and virtually 12 months to the day that permission was granted. It is now upto the Football Foundation as to whether the club would be given the grant that they had applied for.
