April 1998 K.O. 7.30p.m. at Billericay Town Football Club County Notes Good evening and welcome to New Lodge, the home of Billericay Town F.C. who have staged this Cup Final for the County Association for many years. Len and company, on behalf of the Essex County Football Association may I express our thanks for all you have done over so many years. Tonight we have for your enjoyment the Essex County Intermediate Cup Final, and the two teams contesting the final are both from the Essex Intermediate League: Broomfield and Kelvedon Hatch, so well done not only to those two teams but also to the Intermediate League as well. Kelvedon Hatch are no strangers to the Final having reached it in the 1991/92 season only to lose out on penalties (that may have been the first time that the method was used to decide the winners), but back they came in the 1993/94 season, this time lifting the trophy against South Woodham Ferrers 1-0. For Broomfield this is a new expereince, some good teams have been knocked out along the way so let's hope for a good game tonight. Tonight's Guest of Honour is Mr. George Cash, D.F.C. (the Schools Representative to the E.C.F.A.) it appears to be George's last year on the Council of the E.C.F.A. - sorry that you are going George, you will be missed. Chief Executive: PHIL R. Headquarters, 31 Mildmay Road, Chelmsford, CM2 ODN Established in 1905 Broomfield F.C. are based north of Chelmsford and play at Angel Meadow. The club has a highly regarded youth section that has won the EASY Cup on a number of occasions and has teams playing in the Colchester Youth League, Chelmsford Youth League and Blackwater and Dengie Youth League. The Seniors at Broomfield have been members of the Essex Intermediate League for six years, and the previous manager Colin Harrison took Broomfield into the league and established a squad retaining former youth players and attracting good senior players to the Club. Pre season saw the Tom Fair Trophy won, but on the eve of the season, Broomfield lost Colin's services as he planned to move abroad. Broomfield appointed a new manager on a temporary basis. Results in the cup however are stark contrast to these in the league. Injuries have been a problem. Defender Simon Clapperton, a player who received his County Junior Cap suffered a serious leg injury in his second appearance of the season, and long serving goalkeeper Paul Nicholls suffered a leg break which unfortunately sees them both absent from this Final. The club wishes them a speedy recovery and hopes to have them back playing next season. Broomfield are at the foot of Division One, but hope their appearance in tonight's final lifts spirits and allows them to climb away from relegation. Rallying support for the team this season has come from Secretary, Dave Hutchinson, captain Duncan Paterson as well as Tim Dobson, Mick Maynard and Fred Nicholls who have supported the players and management well in a period of change. Many requests for help have to be turned down because no donation however small, has been received from dubs during the season the request has been made in. Your club should not find itself in such a position!

4 Presentations The Team Line-Ups Before the start both teams will be led on to the pitch by Mr. Dickie Brooks the Competition Secretary. Broomfield will be led by Mr. Eddie Rhymes and Kelvedon Hatch by Mr. Ron Edwards, their respective Group Secretaries. The Match Officials will be led on to the pitch by Mr. Jim Quilterthe R.A. Representative on the County Association. The two competing clubs and the Match Officials will then be presented to the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Gordon Sneil who will introduce the Guest of Honour Mr. G. W. Cash, D.F.C. and the Vice-Chairman of the Association Mr. W. H. (Bill) Hutton. The match will then be played to a conclusion, which will if necessary also include thirty minutes of extra time and a penalty shoot out to determine the winners. At the end of the match the Guest of Honour will make the presentations in the following order: 1. Mementoes to the losing finalists 2. Mementoes to the Referee and his Assistants 3. The Essex Intermediate Cup and mementoes to the winning team. The presentations will take place on the pitch. Supporters are kindly asked not to run on to the pitch at the final whistle or during the presentation, as the Essex County F.A. has only borrowed this ground from Biilericay Town F.C. who have further Ryman League matches to play here. 5 Welcome Finalists KELVEDON HATCH Kelvedon Hatch Football Club was formed in 1946 to cater for the needs of the then local villagers of Kelvedon Hatch, and they are proud today, that even though the area is far more developed, the club still maintains its friendly village atmosphere. The growth of the Club appears to have come in the 1980's with entry to the Essex Intermediate League where two sides now compete. The first team play in Senior Division One, whilst a Reserve team competes in the Reserve Section. There has been development at the Club's ground at New Hall in School Road at Kelvedon Hatch with new dressing rooms erected four seasons back. It was around that time that the present rich vein of form blossomed with the League and League Cup "double" being completed in season 1993/94. A year later they were runners-up. For the following two seasons, 1995/96 and 1996/97 they were again Champions and this season they are again in contention for the League title. Although a separate club, there is an understanding with the Kelvedon Hatch childrens sides which run eight teams at the various age levels, which should in theory mean that they at least have the opportunity to progress right up to the top level of Intermediate football, without moving away from Kelvedon Hatch. There is "strength in depth" off the field too. Chairman, David Hughes played senior football in the Isthmian League for Epping Town, Ford United and Harlow Town, and has also been physio to the County FA on a number of occasions. Whilst Hon. Secretary Gerry Presland comes from an excellent footballing family.
