1 Friday, November 3, 2017 Attention volleyball players there will be no practice after school. Please come out and support your Lady Seahawks 8 th Grade A team as they play in the district Tournament held at Scoggins Middle School. Our Lady Seahawks will begin playing at 10:00 a.m. against Pioneer Middle School. Hope to see everyone there!! Go Seahawks!! Come see our fall musical The Wizard of Oz on Thursday, November 9th at 6:30pm Friday, November 10th at 5:30pm and 7:30pm Saturday, November 11th at 2:00pm Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults. We had an amazing time playing kickball, music, and pop tarts last time! This Friday will be just as good and even better. Remember FCA is open to all Scoggins Students 6 th through 8 th grade. This is a day set aside to recognize those individuals that serve or have served the United States of America and is a time of remembrance and appreciation. This year, we will be holding our annual Veteran s Day lunch on Friday, November 10. Please invite any of your family members that have served, or are currently serving, our country to come up and eat lunch with you this day. There are some special things planned and we would love the opportunity to thank those Veterans for their service. Information has been ed home to your families, but please stop by the front office if you would like a hard copy of the invitation. RSVPs must be received by Tuesday, November 7. Also, we will have a Wall of Honor to recognize our family and/or friends that have served our country. 2 Tuesday, October 31, 2017 Lets give it up to our 7th grade volleyball teams for for the effort they gave last night against Nelson Middle School. It was their last game of the season and surely they wanted to end it with a bang. C team did just that, topping the Nighthawks in 2 sets. Player of the game was Leah Stoehner. B Team followed suit as they also overcame their rivals, winning in 2 sets. Player of the game goes out to the entire team. A team fought a hard battle in their second set to tie it up after being down 10, but was unable to stretch the match any further. Players of the game were Noemi Cea, Lilly Maculia and Jordan Millhouse. Great Job Ladies on a Terrific Season! Last night our Lady Seahawks Volleyball teams played against Nelson Middle School to finish off the season. Our 8th grade C Team was victorious in 2 games and improved so much throughout the year. Players of the game were Isabella Foley, Shelby Albritton, and Marley Pouges. Also last night our B team won in 2 games and played very hard and the coaches are extremely proud of them. Players of the game go out to the entire B team. Last, but not least our A team lost in 2 competitive games to Nelson Middle School. Players of the game go to Trinidy Huynh, Bella Bailey,and Kenidee Maddox. They will look forward to continuing their great season in the District Tournament that will start on Saturday at Scoggins. Look forward to seeing everyone there. Last night your 7 th Grade Boy s Seahawks took on the Wester Wildcats at Independence High school. All teams played really hard but fell to the Wildcats in the end. Players of the game for the B Team were Matteo Quattrin, Graham King, Owen Thompson, Christian Gibson, and +Jackson Parsley. Players of the game for the A Team were: Gabe Warren, Keith Rockwell, TK Kailey, Luke Dunn, and Chase Warren. Coach Stone, Coach Breaux, and Coach Carpenter are proud of the improvement the 7 th Graders have shown throughout the season. With hard work and dedication there is no doubt they are going to be successful in the future. Keep up the good work! Mr. Byrd is extremely proud to lead these amazing string players, and hope everyone will congratulate them for their Audition this past weekend at Plano East High School. C Team games begin at 5:30, B Team games begin at 6:30, and A Team games begin at 7:30. The teams would love to see you in the stands in pink for the last Volleyball game of the season. Friday, October 27, 2017 Congrats to our 7th grade Volleyball Teams last night in their final home game of the season. All teams came out with a victory against the Maus Mountain Lions. C team overcame in the first 2 sets adding yet another win to their record. Players of the game were Angelina Lee and Nea Jenson. After a tough loss the week before, B team bounced back winning their match in 2 sets as well. Players of the game were Csilla Daniels and Anna Scheer. A team played their best game of the season and it definitely showed as they also won in 2 sets. Players of the game were Sabrina LeFavor and Cassie Lutz. Great job on the clean sweep! Come out to support your fellow Seahawks as they end the season with their PINK OUT game on Monday at Nelson Middle School. Our Lady Seahawks played Maus Middle school last night. Our C team was victorious in 2 games. Players of the game were Isabella Foley and Emily Clark. Our Lady Seahawks B team lost a hard fought game that went 3 matches. Players of the game for B team were Noah Swann and Nylah Mundy. Last but not least Our A team was victorious against a very good Maus team. It took 3

4 matches to pull off the victory. Players of the game were Abbie Wadas, Katilyn Bloomer, and Bella Bailey. Hope to see everyone on Monday as we take on Nelson Middle School. Some people may have heard of drugs called K2 or spice. These are synthetic drugs that are manmade and extremely dangerous. They can cause symptoms of psychosis, extreme anxiety, confusion, paranoia, and hallucinations. Bath salts are another very dangerous drug that have a label saying not for human consumption. People who use them often end up in the emergency room. Seahawks, we hope you have learned a lot this week about why you will choose to stay away from drugs, alcohol, and tabacco! We look forward to ending this week with the Red Ribbon Week assembly this afternoon that is sponsored by our PTA! Listen up, Seahawks! When you are not in the assembly, you will have Target Time to work on homework and assignments, or you may also have a C3 Team lesson. This is a day set aside to recognize those individuals that serve or have served the United States of America and is a time of remembrance and appreciation. This year, we will be holding our annual Veteran s Day lunch on Friday, November 10. There are some special things planned and we would love the opportunity to thank those Veterans for their service. Can you please add to the announcements that there will be no Volleyball practice afterschool on Friday for 7th or 8th grade? Some people think that since Marijuana is a natural plant, there are no harmful risks in using it. This is FALSE! Marijuana has short and long term negative effects on the brain and can cause things such as memory loss, learning difficulties, mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and temporary paranoia and hallucinations. The dangerous chemical in marijuana is called THC. While it s true that scientific research has proven that medical marijuana can ease painful side effects of cancer, under a doctor s care and prescription, it has not been proven to actually cure it. So, remember that you can be comfortable without drugs, and wear your favorite (school appropriate) pajama pants tomorrow. Wednesday, October 25, 2017 Last night your Scoggins Seahawks suffered a tough loss to the Maus Mt. Lions. Come out next week as we take on the Wester Wildcats in our annual pink out game. Come cheer on your Seahawks and wear your pink out shirts as we show our support to fight breast cancer. The game is next Tuesday October 31st at Independence High school. Did you know that prescription drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs? When people take prescription drugs that are not prescribed to them, they can have very dangerous effects. Three examples of prescription drugs that are abused are opioids, central nervous system depressants, and stimulants. Just possessing someone else s prescription medication can lead to a Class A misdemeanor in Texas which means up to one year in Juvenille detention and up to a $4000 fine. So, wear your favorite team jersey or t-shirt tomorrow, and remember Our team at Scoggins is drug free!

Tuesday, October 17, 2017 Last night your 7 th Grade Boy s Seahawks took on the Griffin Gators at Lone Star High School. All teams played really hard but fell to the Gators in the end. Players of the game for the B Team were Chris Matam, Josh Reed, Matteo Quattrin, Tyrous Graise, and Carlos Moscorro. Players of the game for the A Team were: Cooper Crowell, Jacob Vincent, Gabe Warren, Keith Rockwell, TK Kailey and Chase Warren. Please come out and support your Seahawks when they take on the Maus Mountain Lions at Independence High School. Hope to see you there! Attention all Seahawks! This Wednesday, October 18 th, we will conduct our Safety Day Practice Drills after 6 th period during our C3 time. Students will stay with their 6 th period class and NOT transition to their C3 class. We will practice our fire, bad weather, and our lockdown procedures during this time. As always, it is very important that all Seahawk students are quiet during our drills and listening to instructions carefully. We have always done a great job this in the past, so let s continue to work together to keep everyone at Scoggins safe!

Friday, October 13, 2017 Last night our 7th grade volleyball teams faced their toughest match up yet. C team experienced their first loss but not until a hard fight of 3 sets were completed. Players of the game go out to the whole team. B team also took their match to 3 sets. They came up short in the end but so much effort was put forth. Player of the game was Nicole Farias. A team came out with a fast start but could not hold off their highly ranked district opponent. Players of the game were the whole team as well. Great Job ladies! Come back the blue here at home as we face Griffin Middle School next Thursday. SEE YOU THERE! Our Lady Seahawks 8th grade volleyball teams played last night at Cobb Middle School. Our C team fell short in 3 matches, but they were very competitive. Players of the game were Sadie Schipper and Chasytee Hayes. B team played with a lot of heart, but lost in 2 sets and players of the game were Sophia Figueroa and Ava Spears. Last but not least our Lady Seahawks A team were victorious in 2 sets and players of the game were Lilly Mack, Katilyn Bloomer, and Skyler Weber. Tuesday, October 10, 2017 Last Thursday the 7th grade volleyball team played another tough battle in their home games against Fowler Middle School. C team continued their win streak overcoming in 2 games. Player of the game was Emma Freitas. B team also won their match in 2 games. Player of the game was Avory Miller. A team fell short in the end but fought hard throughout the entire match. Players of the game were Kaitlyn Arthur and Jasmine Venegas. GREAT JOB LADIES!! Come support your Seahawks away as they take on Cobb Middle School this Thursday. Attention volleyball players: Only A teams practice today.

12 I would like to congratulate our Lady Seahawks 8 th grade A team as they were victorious last Thursday. They are now currently 3-1 in district play. The coaches would like for the players of the game to be the entire 8 th grade A team players. Everyone contributed to a great win!! Please see your science teacher if you have any questions. Wednesdsay, October 4, 2017 Last night your Scoggins Seahawks took on the Fowler Falcons in some old school rainy football. The B team game got started and your Seahawks were in total control from kickoff. The Seahawks were led by Gerrit McAloon, Troy Washington, and Seyver Bakken. The rain couldn't even slow down your Seahawks as they went on to beat Fowler 39 to 0. The A team game was delayed 30 minutes due to rain, but once the lightning passed your Seahawks struck fast and first, scoring on their first possession of the game. The defense stopped the Falcons on there first possession in three downs. On the next play BJ Higgins hit Jayzaieh Rockwell on a 40 yard bomb for a touchdown. The next Seahawk possession Jamichael Lias went 20 yards on a sweep to get the Seahawks their second touchdown. Your Seahawks were winning 22 to 8 when ligtning struck again and the game was called. Players of the game are CJ Wesley, Jalen Braxton, JaMichael Lias, and Aysis Smallwood. Come out next week October 11th as your Seahawks take on the Cobb Cyclones at Independence High School. B-team at 5:30 and A-team at 7:00. Come out and back the blue. Don t forget all you planet-conscious-people out there! -- Green team is tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. -- Since we don t have school on Friday, we will have green team on Thursday of this week! That s tomorrow! Show up for green team tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. in the orchestra room to help us recycle. We are looking for some new members so please show up on time! We would like to see ALL Scoggins students there! You can walk or run a mile or 5K with a group of friends in the name of fun and education. Visit the Scoggins Athletics homepage for registration information. We bleed blue while wearing pink! Don t forget to purchase your Pink Out shirts online. Shirts are $8 for short sleeve and $12 for long sleeve. They can be purchased through October 5, and will be delivered by October 20. We will be wearing our Pink out shirts the week of October 30th. Be sure to wear your Scoggins gear so we can blue out the gym and cheer for our Scoggins Football and Volleyball teams! They went on to get the victory over the Falcons in the end with a final score of This helped them get their 4th straight victory. Players of the game for the B Team were Gavin Young, Matteo Quattrin, Jordan Bridge, and Carlos Moscorro. The A team had one of the best starts for the season so far ending the half with a lead over the Falcons. The game went backwards and forwards for most for the rest of the night. Unfortunately they were not able to hold off the Falcons in the end. Vandeventer had a great push in the second half and scored two unanswered touchdowns. The B team fell Players of the game for B team were Anton Bradley and Jacob Choi. The A team came out and showed their true potential as they dominated the Vikings all night. The offense was too much for the Vikings to handle as they came out and put up 22 points. The defense pitched a shutout last night keeping the Vikings out of the end zone. Vandeventer capitalized on one Seahawk mistake and scored its only touchdown when they recovered a fumble in the end zone. Your Seahawks went on to win 22-6 and are now 2-2 on the season.
