The BURLINGTON AREA YMCA and Southeast Soccer Academy team up to offer an opportunity to be active outdoors while improving your child s soccer skills. Rec League soccer places a strong emphasis on both skill and character development. Each player will receive a team t-shirt. Players will be encouraged to use their skills to outplay and beat their opponents. Creativity and freedom will be encouraged in this fast paced and fun environment. Registration is not necessary! 3 Itty Bitty Sports Camp Children ages 3-5 can have fun and learn the fundamentals of sports in a structured environment. Itty Bitty Sports includes six, 45-minute sessions consisting of organized practices and games. Children will build confidence, develop teamwork and learn social skills in a positive, fun environment. Itty Bitty Sports will include: Basketball, Soccer and T-Ball. Parents are encouraged to attend classes with their children and will receive notice of which activity to prepare for prior to each class. 4 Youth TEE-BALL This popular co-ed league is for boys and girls ages 4 & 5. Children who participate in this team sport will be encouraged to learn the fundamentals of the game while having fun in an outdoor environment. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to sign up as coaches. Games will be played on Thursday evenings. Each participant is required to provide their own batting helmet and glove. All players and coaches will receive a team t-shirt. February 5 - May 6 League Dates: June 7 - July 12 Fees: Members: $25 Community: $45 T-Ball Camp: May (included with fee for all registrants) 5:30-6:30pm each day on the East T-Ball field. YOUTH TEE-BALL PLUS This popular co-ed league is for boys and girls ages 6-8. Similar to Tee-Ball, the main difference is that the coaches will pitch for the entire season. Participants in this league will have the opportunity to further develop their fundamental skills in an exciting, outdoor environment. Games will be played on Thursday evenings. Each participant is required to provide their own batting helmet and glove. All players and coaches will receive a team t-shirt. February 5 - May 6 League Dates: June 7 - July 12 Fees: Members: $35 Community: $55 T-Ball Camp: May (included with fee for all registrants) 5:30-6:30pm each day on the West T-Ball field. Burlington Area YMCA and Burlington Bees Baseball Clinic Boys and Girls ages 5-13 will have the opportunity to participate in a baseball clinic directed by members of the 2018 Burlington Bees team and coaching staff! During this 2-day clinic, participants will receive individual instruction in all areas of the game: hitting, pitching, fielding, throwing, base running, and more. All camp participants will also be admitted free to the Bees game on Wednesday, June 6th! Kids will need glove, helmet, and bat and dressed to play! 5 Burlington Bees Y Night Join us for a night of fun and giveaways at the ballpark! The Burlington Bees are offering Y Night on June 6th! FREE ADMISSION for anyone showing their Y membership card or wearing YMCA apparel! Go BEES Middle School Nautilus/Cardio Training A strength training program for youth in grades 6-8. Students will learn proper form on the Nautilus equipment. Upon completion of this training, middle schoolers will be allowed to use the Nautilus and Cardio equipment with a parent present. There will be 2 training sessions a week. The season will end with an end of season tournament. Specific time and dates will be dependent on registrations. Sessions will be a mixture of skill work and scrimmages. League play will be split into two divisions: 3rd-4th grades and 5th-6th grades. All players are required to wear knee pads. Each player will receive a t-shirt. This program is perfect for players who might be new to the game or who are looking to improve their skills while focusing on the fundamentals of the game! 6 NEW: SUMMER SPORTSCAMP!!! A week filled with Sports of all sorts!! This camp program provides the perfect opportunity to experience a wide range of sports through instruction, drills, competition, and more. Camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Not only will this week include learning, playing, and developing in many different sports, throughout the week there will also be guest speakers! Our guest speakers will be talking about sports, and performing other activities that address training the mind and body in relation to sports. Children need to bring a sack lunch, water bottle, and tennis shoes every day. Specific sport equipment needed on a specific day will be communicated. In the mornings you need to drop your child off in the youth zone. Children can be picked up in the youth zone. You need to sign your child in and out. All games will be played on Saturdays at the RecPlex. Our leagues are designed to encourage fundamental skill and character development in a friendly, social environment. U6, U8, U10, U12, and U14 age divisions will be offered. Divisions may be co-ed depending on the number of registrations. All age divisions are co-ed. 8 AQUATICS Please note that all aquatics programs are subject to change due to low enrollment. Classes with low enrollment will be combined with a similar class or cancelled. Any water fitness class with less than 2 participants enrolled will be canceled for the session and class fees will be credited. Parent/Child Swimming Classes: AQUATICS 1 - WATER DISCOVERY Ages: 6 month - 2 years. This is an introduction to the aquatic environment for parents and their children. Parents are encouraged to develop appropriate expectations for their children s performance in the water. They learn basic aquatic safety and have a positive experience with their child that helps them bond. AQUATICS 2 - WATER EXPLORATION Ages: 2-3 years Children start getting more independently through the water under their parents guidance. Parents learn more about aquatic safety and children begin to learn something about these topics as well. At this point the instructor begins to prepare the children to work directly with an instructor on their own. 9 Private Swimming Lessons: Private lessons are offered for those who would like, or need 1-on-1 attention. Private lessons are set up based on the availability of instructors. Lessons are purchased in groups of six. Lessons are either 30 min., 45 min., or 1 hour lessons. Ages: 3 years and older Fees: Member: $90 Community: $140 *Fee is for 6 lessons Schedule: Please contact the Aquatics Director, Megan at ext. 126 PRESCHOOL AGE SWIMMING CLASSES: AQUATICS 3 - WATER ACCLIMATION Ages: 3-5 years The swimmer should not be fearful of the pool or being away from Mom and Dad. The following skills need to be mastered to progress to the next level: jump twist grab, front/back glides, back float for 10 seconds, swim float swim, pool safety. AQUATICS 4 - WATER MOVEMENT Ages: 3-5 years The following skills need to be mastered to progress to the next level: exiting the pool, jump push turn grab, front glide for 5 feet, back and front float, rolling back to front, describe two skills that can get them to the side when in danger, sculling, streamline kicking tread water for 10 seconds and exiting the pool, perform swim float swim with and without lifejacket 5 yards for both, pool safety. 28 Semi-Private Swimming Lessons: Semi-private lessons are offered for those who would like, or need more specialized attention. Semi-private lessons consist of 2 or 3 students. Semi-private lessons are set up based on the availability of instructors. Lessons are purchased in groups of six. Lessons are either 30 min., 45 min., or 1 hour lessons. Ages: 3 years and older Fees: Member: $75 Community: $110 *Fee is for 6 lessons YOUTH SWIMMING CLASSES: AQUATICS 5 - WATER STAMINA Ages: 4-11 The following skills need to be mastered to progress to the next level: Front and back glide 10 ft (5 feet for preschool students), front glide with rolling to side and with a kick, swim on front for 15 yards (10 yards for preschool students), jump/push/turn/ swim/grab for 10 yards, front glide 10 feet (5 feet for preschool students), front glide roll to side glide, front glide with kick/ roll to side glide, swim on front 15 yards (10 yards for preschool students, exiting the pool, back glide 10 feet (5 feet for preschool students), swim on back for 15 yards (10 yards for preschool students), skin safety, tread water for 1 minute & exiting (30 for preschool students), swimming in deep water with clothes and lifejacket, perform swim/float/swim for 25 yards (15 yards for preschool students), the importance of 911/ calling for help. 10 Youth Swimming CLASSES Continued AQUATICS 6 - STROKE INTRODUCTION Ages: 4-11 The following skills need to be mastered to progress to the next level: swim on front & back 15 yards (10 yards for preschool students), front/ back glide with flutter kick 15 yards, front glide rhythmic breathing 15 yards, front crawl rotary breathing 15 yards, back crawl 15 yards, weather conditions for swimming, know the basic first aid steps, tread water for 1 minutes using different kicks and then exist the pool, breaststroke for 15 yards, gain knowledge about open water, butterfly kick for 15 yards, set goals, gain knowledge about nutrition and boating. AQUATICS 7 - STROKE DEVELOPMENT Ages: 4-11 The following skills need to be mastered to progress to the next level: elementary backstroke kick/stroke for 15 yards, front/ back crawl(rotary breathing) 15 yards, front/ back glide with flutter kick 25 yards, front glide with rotary breathing 25 yards, front craw bent-arm recovery 25 yards, back crawl pull 25 yards, HELP (Heat Escape Lessening Position) Position, diving knowledge, scissor kicking 25 yards, side stroke with arms 25 yards, resting/side stroke 25 yards, tread water for 2 minutes using scissor and whip kicks breaststroke for 25 yards, huddle position, butterfly for 15 yards, goal setting. AQUATICS 8 - STROKE MECHANICS Ages: 4-11 The following skills need to be mastered to progress to the next level: swimming a combination of strokes for the following distance-50, 100, and 150 yards. Scissor kicking, sidestroke, and resting stroke all for 25 yards. Front/back crawls for 25 yards, front/ back glide with flutter kicking for 50 yards, front glide with side breathing for 50 yards, freestyle and backstroke flip turns and open turns, front/back crawls with flip turn for 50 yards, CPR, tread water with scissor & whip kick for 2 minutes, retrieve object off the bottom of the pool and tread water for 1 minute, breaststroke for 25 yards, whip kick for 50 yards, breaststroke arms for 50 yards, regular breaststroke with open turns for 50 yards, dolphin kick for 25 yards, butterfly arms for 25 yards, butterfly simultaneous arm action & kick for 15 yards, normal butterfly for 25 yards, and goal setting. GymnasticS Class Descriptions: Tumble Buddies: Have fun with your toddler (18 mo - 3 yrs) in a parent-child class! This class is designed for the very young gymnast who still requires a guardian to accompany him or her on the floor. Children will begin learning motor coordination, balance and socialization skills. Parents/Guardians will learn to spot their gymnast on various beginning skills and will be able to play freely during a portion of the class. Must be able to walk or run 45 min. Tumble Tots: This class for 3 year olds introduces listening skills, body positioning, movement skills and basic tumbling skills. 45 min. Tumble Cubs: For students 4 years old. Skills performed: Incline forward and straddle roll, L-hang on bars, knee scale, V-sit on beam, and squat off vault. 45 min. Tumble Bears: For students 5 years old. Skills performed: start cartwheel, backbend, hang on uneven bars, bunny hop on beam, and squat on vault. 45 min. Rollers 1: For students 6-8 years. Skills performed: cartwheel, front/backrolls, start Releve walks on beam, mounts and dismounts on uneven bars, and tuck jump off vault. 60 min. Rollers 2: For ages 9 and up. Skills performed: cartwheel, front/backrolls, start Releve walks on beam, mounts and dismounts on uneven bars, and tuck jump off vault. 60 min. Dress Attire Please have your gymnast wear leotards or form fitting clothing (tank top & shorts). Leotards should not have skirt attached. No leggings, tights, baggy shirts or sweat pants. Hair needs to be pulled away from the face. Bare feet are best. These requirements are for the safety of all who participate. Youth development / gymnastics 31

12 Turners: For students who have passed Rollers. Skills performed: cartwheel, start round-off, pivot turn and squat turn on beam, start back hip pullover on uneven bars and vault prep. 1 hour Tumblers: For students who have passed turners. Meets once per week. Boys Tumbling (ages 5 & up): This class will focus strictly on floor elements and strength moves. Some examples of skills performed include forward and backward rolls, backbends, cartwheels and round-offs. 1 hr. Tumbling Level 1: Skills performed - forward/backward roll, cartwheel, round-off, handstand, bridge/ backbend, front and back kick over. 1 hr. Tumbling Level 2: For those who have passed Level 1. Skills performed - round-off rebound, front and back handsprings, dive roll, round-off back handspring/series. 1 hr. Tumbling Level 2.5: Must have round-off, back handspring & standing back handspring. Skills performed - front handspring tuck, start front and back tuck. 1 hr. Tumbling Level 3/4: For those who have passed Level 2 or 3. Skills performed - standing tuck, round-off back handspring layout, whips, handspring, front tuck, twisting. 1 hr. Tumbling Level 5: Contact Tasha to set up an evaluation at tprickett75@gmail.com Open Gym: This is for anyone who is wanting to work on gymnastics, tumbling or cheerleading skills. Must be able to work independently on skills and be at least 8 years of age to attend. A parent must sign in and off on a waiver of liability form each week. Parkour is the art of using effective and efficient jumps, vaults, climbing and swinging to conquer obstacles. Or simply put, finding the fastest way to get from point A to point B by running, flipping, rolling and jumping over obstacles. This class will demonstrate the basics of both Parkour and Freerunning (the art of motion). A great way to see the environment in a different way and open up the imagination. Great for both boys and girls. Beginner Parkour and Intermediate Parkour classes are offered. competitive gymnastics team This program is taught by our Competitive Coach and participants must be evaluated first in order to attend. Girls need to have prior experience in gymnastics through our classes on all apparatuses. Great class for those who LOVE gymnastics and one hour just isn t enough!!! Known also as T&T (Trampoline and Tumbling), Power Tumbling uses the same artistic form as traditional gymnastics, however, only focuses on floor elements. Power Tumbling is open to all ages (4-18), skill levels (forward roll to back tuck) and both boys and girls! Competitions begin in October. Don t miss out! 32 TUMBLE. FLIP. PLAY. Want your child to have a healthy and active play time when it is too cold to play outside! The Y has an awesome program just for your little ones. Tumble. Flip. Play. is a time for kids to do just that, tumble, flip and play! Parent supervision is required. 13 Private Gymnastics Lessons Private lessons are available by submitting a request to the front desk or the Gymnastics/ Cheer Center. Fill out the Private Lesson Form and an instructor will be matched to the students ability and lesson time. Please allow 2-3 weeks for this match to be made. Lessons can cover all 4 events or strictly work on floor and may be arranged for 1-3 students. All lessons sold in sets of 6. Lesson cards are good one (1) year after purchase. 14 ALL STAR CHEER Why All Stars? Competitive Cheerleading builds athletic skills in addition to confidence, self- esteem & team building skills, which can be used for life! All Star season begins in May with practices and competition season runs November March. What Are Placements? To join the squad, individual must attend placements in May and will then be placed on a squad based upon their age and ability. Depending on age, each participant will be evaluated on the following: jumps, stunting and tumbling (from a forward roll to advanced tumbling if they are able to do so. This is NOT a requirement.) along with positivity and enthusiasm. Cheerleaders do not have to have any prior experience! The possible occasion where an individual may not get teamed is if we do not have enough girls to form a full team or if there are disciplinary issues during placement. Placements for the season are scheduled for May 10th at 6pm. Make up date is scheduled for May 17th at the Burlington Area YMCA Gymnastics and Cheer Center. **NEW THIS SEASON** ALLSTAR FUNDAMENTALS All Star FUNdamentals is a 12 wk intro into our All Star cheer program. This program will introduce stunts, dance and tumbling skills to those interested in All Star Cheer in a low pressure, non competitive environment. Over the 12 weeks, participants will learns skills in each area listed above and combine them into a short exhibition routine. FUNdamental All Stars will perform their routine at 2 exhibition performances at the end of the 12 weeks. Age Groups: 5-8 and 9-11 Fee: Members: $110, Community: $130 (fee includes program fee and uniform) Program Dates: May 21st- Aug 31st Sept - Nov YOUTH DEVELOPMENT / CHEER Pre- We ask everyone interested in attending placements to pre-register, which can be done at the Y or online. Please pre-register by May 6th. There is no fee associated with placements or pre-registration. Attire: Please wear gym shorts, form fitting tank top, clean lace up tennis shoes, and hair pulled up off of the shoulder (no jewelry or gum allowed). 15 Co-Ed Dance & Tumbling Program Instructors: Shari Bartlett, Martha Butler, and assistants. Shari is a certified dance instructor through Dance Masters of America. Martha is certified through Dance Masters of America and Chicago National Association of Dance Masters. Dance classes are weekly with holiday breaks. Tuition is due at the first class of the month. At the end of the nine month session, students may perform in a dance production. This is optional and any student wishing not to perform will still benefit from classes. Rhythmic exercises and basic tap technique and terminology are instructed. Tumbling includes beginner skills and stretching and strengthening exercises. 4-7 year olds (60 minutes): Combination of tap, ballet, and tumbling. A progression system is used. Ballet barre and centre are introduced. 8 years old and up (90 minutes) Combination of tap, ballet, jazz and tumbling. Tap - A graded tap system is used. This level progresses students into more advanced skills. Jazz - Age appropriate music is used. Ballet technique is incorporated for proper execution of movement. Classical jazz and hip hop styles are instructed. Ballet - Cecchetti and French systems are taught with an emphasis on preparation for pointe work (Age 12).
