1 DESCRIPTION is a grey single-cmpnent high-perfrmance levelling and smthing underlayment manufactured frm rapid-setting shrinkage-cmpensated cement and selected aggregates frmulated fr rectifying and smthing imperfectins in flr surfaces. Trwel-applied, it is designed t prduce a smth, hard wearing surface suitable fr fixing all flr cverings including semi and fully flexible vinyl tiles and sheeting, carpeting, ceramic tiles, rubber and wd flring. Flr cverings can be fixed after 24 hurs, depending n applicatin thickness and ambient cnditins, nce the misture cntent f the flr has been tested and cnfirmed suitable t receive the intended flr cvering. When mixed with TAL SCREEDBINDER (as a ttal water replacement) it is als suitable fr use as a prtective barrier ver under tile heating elements and fr cmmercial installatins where rubber caster wheels frm the majrity f the traffic. NOTE : All surface beds shuld have a damp prf membrane, and all substrates must attain misture levels f 5% (75% RH) r less befre the applicatin f plymer-mdified underlayment can cmmence. Shuld there be n damp prf membrane belw a surface bed, r shuld prevailing misture levels nt attain 5% (75% RH) r less, then TAL X-CALIBUR X-SHIELD VAPORSTOP HB must be applied befre the applicatin f. X-SHIELD VAPORSTOP HB is a misture tlerant, 100% slids epxy barrier cat that prevents the passage f water vapur and misture thrugh cncrete slabs int the underlayment layer. Please cntact TAL fr a specificatin fr the applicatin f X-SHIELD VAPORSTOP HB if required. Fr ptimum prduct perfrmance the Slab, Water and Ambient Temperatures shuld be arund 20 C. Hwever, if this is nt pssible, the infrmatin belw shuld be used as a guide fr prduct installatin : Ambient temperatures between 10 C - 30 C must be maintained thrughut installatin and curing. The Flr Slab must have a minimum temperature f 10 C during the SUPERSCREED applicatin. The temperature f the Water must be between C when mixed with SUPERSCREED. Lw Flr Slab and/r Ambient Temperatures and Water Temperatures will have a detrimental effect n the curing f the, ie full cure will never be achieved. 2 Classificatin Accrding t EN13813 is classified as a plymer-mdified CT-C25-F4 screed (cementius screed (CT) with a cmpressive strength (C) f minimum 25 N/mm² (MPa) and a flexural strength (F) f minimum 4 N/mm² (MPa)). When mixed with TAL SCREEDBINDER as a ttal water replacement is classified as plymer-mdified CT-C30-F6 screed (cementius screed (CT) with a cmpressive strength (C) f minimum 30 N/mm² (MPa) and a flexural strength (F) f minimum 6 N/mm² (MPa)). Very lw r very high ambient cnditins can als have an adverse effect n the applicatin. SURFACE PREPARATION Allw all new cncrete wrk and screeds t cure fr at least 6 weeks and 4 weeks respectively befre prceeding. The substrate must have a misture cntent f 5% (75% RH) r less befre the applicatin can be cmmenced. The substrate must be structurally sund, clean and dry and free frm all traces f surface laitance and cntaminatin such as dust, dirt, waxes, ils, bitumen, ld adhesives, paint, grease, weak cement screeds, shutter release and curing agents, sealing cmpunds, etc. All damaged, defective, deterirated, friable (pwdery) and hllw sunding areas must be remved until a sld backgrund is achieved. These areas must be made gd befre prceeding. Bituminus cmpunds must be remved cmpletely. Organic r fungal grwth must be remved and the spres killed using an effective fungicide. All hles r vids in the flr must be identified and filled with TAL RAPIDFIX, and all highs r trwel marks must be identified and grund dwn. 3 Pwerflated, smth and dense/impervius cncrete shuld be prepared as fllws : Applicatin Thickness 5mm r Less : The substrate must be suitably prepared t pen the surface and t expse the aggregate, preferably by captive sandblasting, t achieve a Cncrete Surface Prfile (CSP) value f 2-3 (Light). Applicatin Thickness Exceeding 5mm : The flr surface must be thrughly scabbled r scarified in crss-directins t a Cncrete Surface Prfile (CSP) value f 5-6 (Medium Scarificatin), r t ensure that the aggregate in the cncrete is fully expsed and pen. FLOOR LEVEL SURVEY / FLOOR TOLERANCES The success f an installatin is highly dependent n the backgrund cnditins and the quality f the backgrund preparatins befre applying. Since these installatins are nrmally 3 5mm in thickness, it is imprtant t ensure all highs and lws are identified and addressed befre applying. The use f a 3m straight edge is recmmended. In identifying the highs and lws the straight edge shuld be placed dwn and rtated thrugh 360 arund the centre pint. This ensures that valleys and ridges are identified tgether with ccasinal highs and lws. Please cntact TAL if mre detailed infrmatin regarding Flr Level Surveys is required. CONSTRUCTION JOINTS / VOIDED JOINTS Existing Jints : All cnstructin/cld jints and structural jints in the substrate, as well as structural cracks which may be dynamic befre and/r after the installatin, must be extended thrugh t the surface f the screed applicatin in the frm f vided jints. With regards t these vided jints already in the cncrete slab, the full width f the jint shuld be maintained and extended thrugh the screeds t the surface. All vided jints in the substrate, including saw cuts, must be filled with TAL SEALMASTER CORD prir t the applicatin t prevent these jints frm being filled with screed. New Jints : Bay divisins and cnstructin jints shuld be incrprated in the screeds as fr nrmal sand/cement screeds in accrdance with the SABS/SANS Cde f Practice, and in accrdance with the Prject / Site Engineer s recmmendatins. Vided jints shuld als be lcated arund the perimeter f all flrs, against bstructins fixed t the structural backgrund, and arund all prtruding fixtures such as walls, clumns and stairs. PRIMING The flr must be thrughly swept t remve all traces f dust and lse particles, taking care t remve the dust rather than redistribute it. (Vacuuming is preferred.) The substrate must have a misture cntent f 5% (75% RH) r less befre prceeding. Wdflated (rugh, prus) Surfaces - Prime the surface with a liberal cat f TAL FLOOR PRIMER, ensuring that the entire surface is cvered with the priming cat. NOTE : Very prus flrs may require mre applicatins f TAL FLOOR PRIMER, and each cat shuld be applied in a crssdirectin t the previus applicatin nce the previus cat is tuch dry. Pwerflated / Steelflated (smth, dense) Surfaces - Prime the surface with a slurry cnsisting f 1 part TAL FLOORKEY mixed with 2 parts TAL RAPIDFIX (by vlume) which is applied by blck brush, ensuring that the entire surface is cvered with the slurry priming cat. must be applied when the priming cat is dry and well anchred t the substrate. 4 MIXING Add 20kg t 5 litres f clean water while stirring slwly with an electric drill f 1.1kW with a mixing paddle attachment, and mix until a smth, lump-free viscus liquid is btained. THE TEMPERATURE OF THE WATER MUST BE BETWEEN C WHEN MIXED WITH SUPERSCREED. Stir ccasinally whilst in use. D nt mix up mre than can be used in minutes. Fr best results use a full bag in ne mix. TAL SCREEDBINDER shuld replace the water in the mix when is applied in high traffic areas, cmmercial installatins where rubber caster wheels frm the majrity f the traffic, all exterir/expsed areas, wet areas, where building mvement is expected, and where thermal expansin and cntractin is expected (ie under tile heating). NB : Never add mre liquid t a mix which has been left standing fr t lng (retempering) as this will cmprmise the integrity f the screed. APPLICATION Pur the mix nt the flr and spread using a 600mm extended straight edge steel trwel and wrk until a smth, level surface is achieved. can be applied frm featheredge up t 12mm in a single peratin. Trwel marks and high spts can be remved with carse sandpaper r a crundum stne when the screed is dry. Allw the screed layer t dry fr 3 4 hurs at 1 2mm thickness. Grind the flr dwn where necessary t remve all trwel marks befre applying the next layer. Apply a further cat f mixed with TAL SCREEDBINDER as befre, if required. The flr must be primed with a cat f TAL FLOOR PRIMER befre each subsequent applicatin f. The must be applied when the TAL FLOOR PRIMER cat is TOUCH DRY. Repeat as necessary until the desired finish and level is achieved. Grind the flr dwn t remve any trwel marks. DRYING TIMES New screeds shuld be prtected frm ther building peratins and trades until fully cured. Drying times and trafficking vary frm 3 hurs upwards dependent n the thickness f the applicatin. Allw the layer t dry fully befre prceeding with laying flr cvering r subjecting t traffic. When screeds abve 3mm thickness are laid they must be allwed t dry vernight befre trafficking r installing flr cverings. Flr cverings can be fixed after 24 hurs, depending n applicatin thickness and ambient cnditins, nce the misture cntent f the flr has been tested and cnfirmed suitable t receive the intended flr cvering. Any misture trapped belw vinyl flring r ther catings may result in the vinyl flring r cating bubbling. Befre flr cverings are installed a further Flr Level Survey shuld be carried ut n the flr using a 3m straight edge, as befre. Any highs must be identified and remved by rubbing using a crundum stne. Any lws must be filled using. COVERAGE Cverage is apprximately 1.8kg / m² / mm thickness. PACKAGING is available in 20kg bags. STORAGE & SHELF LIFE When stred in dry internal cnditins between 10ºC and 30ºC and ut f direct sunlight the prduct has a shelf life f 6 mnths frm date f manufacture.
