Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Indians Monday, May 19, 2014 Progressive Field, Cleveland, OH Game Time - 7:10 p.m. EDT RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers completed a three-game sweep of the Red Sox, extended their road winning streak to 11 games and stretched their overall winning streak to six games with a 6-2 win on Sunday night at Fenway Park. The top three batters in the Tigers batting order combined to go 9x14 in the win with Ian Kinsler going 4x5 with two runs scored, Miguel Cabrera recording three hits and two RBI and Torii Hunter going 2x5 with a RBI. Victor Martinez hit his 10th home run of the season and drove in two runs in the victory. Anibal Sanchez was victorious in his return from the disabled list, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits, striking out three and walking three in 5.0 innings. Five Tigers relievers combined to throw four scoreless innings and allowed only one hit to close out the win. The Tigers continue their nine-game road trip tonight as they begin a threegame series against the Indians. Following the series in Cleveland, Detroit returns home on Thursday to open a four-game weekend series against the Texas Rangers. MILLER OPTIONED TO TRIPLE A TOLEDO: Prior to last night s game, the Tigers optioned the contract of righthanded pitcher Justin Miller to Triple A Toledo. TIGERS SWEEP THE RED SOX AT FENWAY FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 1983: The Tigers completed a three-game sweep of the Red Sox with last night s 6-2 win. It marked the first time Detroit had swept a series in Boston since sweeping a four-game series June 6-9, The Tigers pitching staff held the Red Sox offense to just three runs in the series, marking the first time the Red Sox have scored three runs or less in a series at Fenway Park since scoring three runs against Toronto from April 29-May 1, GAMES DOWN, 123 TO GO: The Tigers enter tonight s game with a record, which ranks as the best record in Major League Baseball. The start is tied with the 1961 team for the second-best 39-game start in franchise history, trailing only the 1984 team, which was 34-5 through the first 39 games of the season.
