Detroit hit a season-high six homers in the win, led by Victor Mar nez's trio of solo home runs. Miguel Cabrera added a two-run home run, while Nick Castellanos and James McCann each belted a solo home run. Jus n Verlander started for the Tigers and recorded his seventh win of the season, allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings. The Tigers and Royals play game two of their four-game series tonight. Following this weekend's series at Kansas City, the Tigers return home for a ninegame homestand, which includes four games vs. Sea le (June 20-23), three games vs. Cleveland (June 24-26) and two games vs. Miami (June 28-29). J.D. MARTINEZ PLACED ON 15-DAY DL, MOYA RECALLED FROM TRIPLE A TOLEDO: The Tigers today have placed ou ielder J.D. Mar nez on the 15-day disabled list with a non-displaced fracture of the radial neck at the right elbow. In a corresponding move, the Tigers have recalled ou ielder Steven Moya from Triple A Toledo. Moya, who is in his second s nt with the Tigers this season, has played in 50 games with the Mud Hens and has posted a.298 (61x205) ba ng average with 34 runs scored, 13 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs and 38 RBI. At the me of his promo on, Moya led the Interna onal League with a.571 slugging percentage and 28 extra-base hits, while he was ed for the league lead with 13 home runs, second with 117 total bases, fourth with 38 RBI and ninth with 34 runs scored. VERHAGEN PLACED ON 15-DAY DL: The Tigers have placed righthanded pitcher Drew VerHagen on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder thoracic outlet syndrome, retroac ve to May 23. VMART GOES DEEP THREE TIMES: Victor Mar nez belted three home runs in last night's win, hi ng solo homers in the second, fourth and ninth inning. It marked Mar nez's second career three-homer game (other, July 16, 2004 at Sea le). According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Mar nez, at 37 years, 176 days old, became the second-oldest Tigers player to hit three homers in a game, trailing only Ty Cobb, who hit three homers on May 5, 1925 vs. the St. Louis Browns, at 38 years and 138 days old. The performance marked the 12th me that a player has hit three homers at Kauffman Stadium and the first me since September 17, 2010, when Cleveland's Shin-Soo Choo hit three homers. Mar nez also homered from both sides of the plate, becoming the first Tiger to accomplish that feat since Carlos Guillen on September 23, 2009 at Cleveland. IGGY EXTENDS HITTING STREAK TO 14 GAMES: Jose Iglesias went 2x5 with a run scored in last night's game to extend his hi ng streak to 14 games. Over his last 14 games, Iglesias is hi ng.388 (19x49) with 12 runs scored, four doubles, one home run and five RBI during his streak. The streak, which is the longest ac ve hi ng streak in the majors, ranks as the second longest hi ng streak of Iglesias' career, trailing only an 18-game streak he compiled from May 27-June 18, HOMER HAPPY: The Tigers blasted a season-high six home runs in last night's victory. It marked the 16th me since 1913 that Detroit has hit six-or-more homers in a game and the first me since hi ng eight homers on June 18, 2006 at Chicago (NL). The six homers also ed a Kauffman Stadium record for home runs in a game, with the last me coming on May 10, 2007, when Oakland hit six home runs. EASY BEING GREENE: Shane Greene worked a scoreless inning with two hits allowed and one strikeout in last night s game. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only rookie with a longer streak in franchise history is John Hiller, who threw 28.2 straight scoreless innings from August 10-29, According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Fulmer's streak is the longest by a rookie starter since Orel Hershiser threw 32.0 straight scoreless innings in Fulmer is also the first rookie pitcher to not allow a run in four straight starts since Grover Alexander in IMPRESSIVE STRETCH: Fulmer enters tonight's start on a five-game winning streak.
