In the first game, Michael Fulmer threw a complete game, but took the loss allowing three runs on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts in 8.0 innings. Andrew Romine had two hits in the loss, while Jose Iglesias and JaCoby Jones each had one hit. The White Sox broke the scoreless e in the fi h inning when Yolmer Sanchez grounded into a bases loaded double play to score a run. Chicago added two insurance runs in the eighth inning on a RBI triple by Leury Garcia and a RBI single by Jose Abreu. In the nightcap, Buck Farmer earned his first Major League win, tossing 6.1 scoreless innings with three hits allowed, two walks and 11 strikeouts. John Hicks got the scoring started with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Detroit added two more runs in the seventh inning as J.D. Mar nez hit a sacrifice fly and Nicholas Castellanos scored on a wild pitch. Victor Mar nez plated the Tigers fourth run with a solo home run to lead off the ninth. The White Sox mounted a three-run rally in the bo om of the ninth, but Tigers closer Jus n Wilson struck out Todd Frazier and Adam Engel with the game-tying run at third base to preserve the Tigers win. TIGERS TRANSACTIONS: The Tigers today announced the following roster moves: - Returned RHP Buck Farmer to Triple A Toledo a er he served as the 26th man in yesterday s doubleheader. - Purchased the contract of OF Alex Presley from Triple A Toledo. Presley has played in 40 games with the Mud Hens and is hi!ng.213 (33x155) with 25 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, two home runs and nine RBI. - To create room for Presley on the 25- and 40-man rosters, the Tigers have designated the contract of OF Tyler Collins for assignment. HE S GOING THE DISTANCE: Michael Fulmer recorded the second complete game of his major league career yesterday, allowing three runs on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts in 8.0 innings. The start also marked Fulmer s 10th consecu ve quality start to begin 2017, tying him with Jus n Verlander (March 31-May 19, 2011) for the longest streak by a Tigers pitcher to begin a season since ELIAS SAYS: The Tigers and White Sox split yesterday s doubleheader. The notable aspect of the twinbill was that the winning pitcher in each game earned his first Major League victory, Tyler Danish in the first game and Buck Farmer in the second game. It marked the first me since 1989 that two star ng pitchers each earned their first big league victory in a doubleheader in which each team won a game. On that occasion, Detroit s Kevin Ritz and Minnesota s Mike Dyer were the first- me winners. STREAKING: John Hicks homered in the second game of yesterday s doubleheader to extend his hi!ng streak to a career-long nine games. Over his nine games this season, Hicks is hi!ng.371 (13x35) with seven runs scored, three doubles, two home runs and nine RBI. PILING UP THE PUNCHOUTS: Buck Farmer recorded the first double-digit strikeout game of his career in the second game of yesterday s doubleheader, striking out a career-high 11 ba ers. The 11 strikeouts were a single-game high by a Tigers pitcher in 2017, eclipsing Jus n Verlander s 10 strikeouts on April 4, 2017 at Chicago (AL). UP NEXT: The Tigers con nue their 11-game road trip tomorrow evening as they begin a three-game series at Kansas City. Tomorrow s mee ng will mark the first of 19 against the Royals this season. Detroit went 7-12 against Kansas City last season, including a 4-6 record at Kauffman Stadium.
