Willie Horton Scholarship: Prior to the game, the Tigers will honor the recipient of the 2018 Willie Horton Scholarship, Samory Buford, in a pregame on-field ceremony. The Detroit Tigers Founda on, an affiliate of Ilitch Chari es, created this annual scholarship in 2000 in honor of Willie Horton, and awards $5,000 each year to a senior from Horton s alma mater, Detroit Northwestern High School. RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers suffered their sixth consecu ve loss on Wednesday as they were shut out by the Angels, 6-0. Jim Adduci, Jeimer Candelario, Nicholas Castellanos, José Iglesias and Victor Mar nez each had a hit in the game. Blaine Hardy started for Detroit and took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 5.0 innings. The Tigers open a six-game homestand tonight as they begin a three-game series vs. Minnesota. Following the weekend series vs. the Twins, the homestand con nues with a three-game set vs. Chicago (AL) (August 13-15). TIGERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH ZACH McALLISTER ON MAJOR LEAGUE CONTRACT: The Detroit Tigers announced today that they have agreed to terms on a Major League contract with RHP Zach McAllister. McAllister, 30, has made 41 appearances with the Cleveland Indians this season, pos ng a 1-2 record with a 4.97 ERA (41.2IP/23ER) and 34 strikeouts. An eight-year veteran at the Major League level, all with the Indians, McAllister has appeared in 277 games, including 68 starts, in his career, compiling a record with one save, a 3.99 ERA (588.1IP/261ER) and 537 strikeouts. To make room for McAllister on the 40-man roster, the Tigers have designated RHP Jacob Turner for assignment. ZIP, ZERO, ZILCH, NADA: The Tigers suffered their Major League leading 16th shutout of the season on Wednesday at Los Angeles (AL). Detroit s 16 shutouts are the most the team has had in a season since 2003, when the Tigers were blanked 17 mes. RECAPPING THE ROAD TRIP: The Tigers went 0-6 on their recently completed six-game road, going 0-3 at Oakland and 0-3 at Los Angeles (AL). Detroit hit.176 (35x199) as a team on the trip, while the pitching staff posted a 5.13 ERA (52.2IP/30ER). Individually, Jim Adduci hit.300 (3x10) with a double on the trip, while Nicholas Castellanos ba ed.280 (7x25) with three runs scored, a home run and a RBI. CASTELLANOS, V-MART VS. SANTANA: Nicholas Castellanos and Victor Mar nez have each had success in their career against tonight s Twins star ng pitcher, Ervin Santana. 2 ABOUT JORDAN: In his third season with the Tigers and his 10th season in the Majors, Zimmermann will make his 16th start of 2018 tonight in the series opener vs. Minnesota. LAST TIME OUT: Zimmermann turned in a quality start, but suffered the loss on Saturday at Oakland, allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 6.1 innings. VS.
