Denny McLain earned his 14th win of the season Detroit beats Milwaukee, 9-5, in the first game of a doubleheader, making Tigers skipper Sparky Anderson the first manager to win 600 games in each league. RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers dropped the series finale to the Athle cs, 4-2, on Thursday a ernoon at Comerica Park. Nicholas Castellanos drove in Detroit s only two runs of the game with a first inning two-run home run, while John Hicks also had two hits, including a double. Michael Fulmer started for the Tigers and took the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts in 8.0 innings, which ed his longest start of the season. The Tigers begin a six-game road trip tonight as they open a four-game series at Toronto. Following this weekend s series against the Blue Jays, the road trip con nues with a two-game Interleague series against the Chicago Cubs (July 3-4). NICK THE STICK: Nicholas Castellanos had a pair of hits, including his 11th home run of the season, and drove in two runs in yesterday s game to record his team-leading 31st mul -hit game of the season, which ranks ed for third in the American League. Castellanos also ranks third in the AL with 99 hits, fourth with 26 doubles, seventh with 164 total bases, ed for eighth with three triples and 40 extra-base hits and ninth with a.309 (99x319) ba ng average. Over his last 11 games, Castellanos is hi ng.350 (14x40) with eight runs scored, four doubles, five home runs and 13 RBI. RECAPPING THE HOMESTAND: The Tigers went 0-4 on their recently completed homestand as they were swept by Oakland. ON THE ROAD: The Tigers tonight begin a six-game road trip, which includes four games at Toronto (June 29-July 2) and two games at Chicago (NL) (July 3-4). Detroit is currently in a stretch that will see them play 20-of-28 games away from Comerica Park leading up to the All-Star break. In four injury rehab ou ngs with the Mud Hens, Stumpf has a 1.93 ERA (4.2IP/1ER) and six strikeouts. Stumpf has been on the disabled list since May 30 (retroac ve to May 29) with ulnar nerve irrita on.
