Martinez each homered and had two hits in the loss. Austin Jackson also added two hits with a RBI. Drew Smyly started for the Tigers, but did not factor into the decision after allowing four runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Joakim Soria took the loss for Detroit, giving up a run on one hit with one walk and two strikeouts in 1.0 inning. The Tigers continue their six-game homestand tonight as they begin a three-game series vs. Colorado. Following the series against the Rockies, the Tigers start a nine-game road trip, which begins on Monday with a four-game series vs. the Yankees. The road trip also includes three games at Toronto and two games at Pittsburgh. PRICE ACQUIRED FROM TAMPA BAY: The Tigers announced yesterday that the club has acquired lefthanded pitcher David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for lefthanded pitcher Drew Smyly, outfielder Austin Jackson and infielder Willy Adames. Price, 28, has compiled an 11-8 record, a 3.11 ERA (170.2IP/59ER) and 189 strikeouts in 23 starts with the Rays this season. Opponents are hitting.238 (156x655) against him this season, while he has issued 23 walks. Price currently leads the American League with 189 strikeouts and innings pitched, while he is third with an 8.22 SO/BB ratio, fifth with 9.97 strikeouts per nine innings pitched and tied for sixth with 11 wins. Price was selected to the 2014 American League All-Star Team, marking his fourth career selection. ROSTER UPDATE: The Tigers have announced the following roster moves: - Following yesterday s game, the Tigers optioned the contract of lefthanded pitcher Ian Krol to Triple A Toledo. - The Tigers recalled the injury rehab assignment of lefthanded pitcher Patrick McCoy and activated him from the disabled list. McCoy made four rehab assignments with Triple A Toledo and had a 6.75 ERA (5.1IP/4ER) with six hits allowed and five strikeouts. He had been sidelined since July 6 with a pulled right hamstring. - The Tigers purchased the contract of outfielder Ezequiel Carrera from Triple A Toledo. Carrera played in 97 games for the Mud Hens and hit.307 (115x374) with 15 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 41 RBI and 43 stolen bases. PLENTY OF HARDWARE TO GO AROUND: With the acquisition of David Price, the Tigers now have the last three Cy Young Award winners (Max Scherzer, 2013, David Price, 2012 and Justin Verlander, 2011). According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the sixth time in American League history a team has had three Cy Young winners at the same time and the first time since the Red Sox in 2001 (David Cone, Pedro Martinez and Bret Saberhagen). WRAPPING UP THE MONTH OF JULY: The Tigers finished the month of July with a record, marking the 14th straight month the Tigers have posted a.500 or better record.
