Nicholas Castellanos had three extra-base hits and drove in a run, while Victor Martinez went 2x4 with a double and a RBI. John Hicks also added a RBI double in the win. Jordan Zimmermann started for Detroit and picked up his second win of the season, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings with two hits allowed, three walks and five strikeouts. Alex Wilson, Daniel Stumpf and Joe Jiménez each turned in a scoreless outing in relief, while Shane Greene notched his sixth save, giving up an unearned run with one strikeout. The Tigers and Royals conclude their four-game series this afternoon. Following today s game, the seven-game road trip continues with three games at Texas (May 7-9). ZIMM EXTENDS SCORELESS STREAK: Jordan Zimmermann pitched 5.0 shutout innings yesterday, allowing two hits with three walks and five strikeouts. With the outing, Zimmermann extended his scoreless streak to 12.0 innings. The streak is the second longest by a Tigers pitcher this season, trailing only 12.1 consecutive scoreless innings by Michael Fulmer from April 1-7. Zimmermann also improved to 4-0 with a 1.48 ERA (42.2IP/7ER) in seven career outings vs. the Royals. START ME UP: Jordan Zimmermann s outing yesterday lowered the ERA of Detroit s starting rotation to 3.73 ERA (169.0IP/70ER). It was Castellanos fourth career game with three-or-more extra base hits (last, July 18, 2017 at Kansas City). The performance was also his sixth game of three-or-more hits this season, which is tied for the Major League lead with Seattle s Dee Gordon, Oakland s Jed Lowrie and Cleveland s José Ramírez. Castellanos is also tied for the American League lead with three triples, while he ranks tied for sixth with 41 hits and 12-multi hit games and tied for 10th with nine doubles. Castellanos has recorded at least one hit in 12 of his last 14 games, batting.373 (22x59) with six runs scored, five doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI over that stretch. McCANN-DO ATTITUDE: James McCann had a pair of hits in yesterday s game to extend his hitting streak to five games. After hitting.147 (5x34) in his first nine games of the season, McCann is batting.349 (22x63) with eight runs scored, three doubles, three home runs and eight RBI over his last 16 games. During the stretch, McCann has raised his season batting average from.147 to.278. V-MART HEATING UP: After going 4-for-39 (.103) over his previous 13 games, Victor Martinez has recorded multiple hits in each of his last two games, going 5x7 with a double and a RBI. Martinez has reached base in 7-of-9 plate appearances in this weekend s series vs. the Royals. Martinez recorded his 500th RBI with the Tigers in the first inning of yesterday s game. He is the third switch-hitter in franchise history to drive in 500 runs, joining Billy Rogell (532) and Tony Clark (514). TIGERS AND ROYALS: The Royals have a 5-4 lead in the season series against the Tigers. After today s game, the two teams will not meet again until after the All- Star break.
