Okay, it was a little windy, and maybe slightly chilly, 50s and 60s, but great for climbing those mountains in the Berkshires. Where is Lakeville, CT? Northern Connecticut, bordering NY (Millerton, NY) and Great Barrington, MA and Alaska. Okay, I may be wrong about that last one, but it seems we cover a lot of ground on this weekend. Bish Bash bangs up against Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts. Last year, we saw a bear cross the road (to get to the other side?). This year, it was just scenery. We had our usual mix of As, Bs, B- and C+ riders on this weekend, and we filled 18 of the Interlaken Inn s rooms, 33 people in all. Last year, the same weekend was brutally hot. This year, the 50s and 60s made it easier, well maybe better to climb with. The big part of the BishBash Climb is up Mount Washington. Then back it is rolling and even flat, or New England flat, as someone once told me. We all did the ride backwards, which is one version of the cue sheets. George and Mary went the other way, on tandem, to avoid that fast descent. It is a little scary when your brakes are smoking. They passed us as we were heading out. Pat Mullen led another group on a shorter get your feet wet ride. They did not get their feet wet really, but some of the BishBash folks missed a turn and came thru some rain for the last portion. Saturday s ride for most of us was the 55-mile Litchfield ride and for some with Phil s group and 80-miler. They were dead, Phil told me, and they loved it (probably too tired to argue.). A word or a paragraph about the dinners and breakfasts served. They are buffet, so it is next to impossible for any of us to not have enough. Though some of us spent additional monies to get a burger and fries, and one of us had three dinners. He was not feeling too well when he tried to sleep afterwards. The Sunday ride is the traditional 33-mile Oblong ride. One of my favorites, it goes past farmland and pastures. The roads are mostly untrafficked, and it is over before you know it and before you know you can shower and get lunch. Traditional pizza for most in Millerton, NY, and some of us hit the diner across the road from it. This may be the freshest beef any of us ever had for a burger. Cows are from local farms. We could hear them mooing in the kitchen, unless that was one of us. We can make some pretty strange noises after a weekend in the Berkshires. Can t wait to do it again! About that threat to LIBC riders: the phone message was brief, as reported, and the police have been contacted. A threatening phone call is a misdemeanor. Police are investigating, and the person will be prosecuted

HELMETS ARE REQUIRED! Club rides are graded according to the degree of difficulty: A For very strong cyclists, mph avg, miles, few stops, hills likely. B For strong riders, mph avg, miles, few stops, hills likely. The group will try to wait for slower riders. B mph avg, miles, stops as needed, hills likely. The group will try to wait for slower riders. C mph avg, miles, stops as needed, hills likely. The group will wait for slower riders C mph avg, miles, stops as needed, some hills to be expected. The group will wait for slower riders and assist those having minor mechanical problems If you are in doubt, try out a ride with a slower group and work your way up. Rules to Ride By 1. Arrive 15 minutes early and be ready to leave on time. 2. Make sure your bike is in good working order. 3. Carry a spare tube, patch kit, pump, and water bottle. 4. Practice safety and obey all traffic laws. 5. Leaders are not responsible for those who ride ahead of the group. A Rides Schedule We will have an off-island ride if weather permits. I will post it and send an . Rest and Recovery ride-50 miles-phil. We will have an outdoor lunch at the deli in Huntington. Mike's Stony Brook ride-75 miles-mike Friedlander Mike is still trying to convince me that Long Island can be prettier than Westchester and Putnam. I am not convinced, but Mike does find good roads and keeps the group together. Lunch in Stony Brook and if you tell him it is prettier than Bedford, he will buy you lunch. The Some Idiots Ride-48 miles -Some idiots Some of the a riders will be away so we will resort to the idiots concept. Lead for a while, hand it off to the next person, complain and then give the lead to someone else. Repeat, ad nauseum. Paul's Ride-64 miles-paul block Paul was supposed to lead last month, but we pushed his lead out from him by going off-island. His feelings are still hurt and he is pouting. But who cares! Two of us are boycotting the ride, but the rest should take advantage of a good pace and pithy commentary. Larry will try to muzzle him, but will probably be unsuccessful. Dr E may make a guest appearance after his lobotomy. Dr X's Weight battle Ride-60 miles-jim Badia Jim is having an ongoing battle with Paul and TJ over bike weight. TJ has escalated the battle by getting a 15 pound bike. Of course Paul's titanium bike still floats so Jim is seeking an advantage. If he doesn't appear with that 13 1/2 pound bike he promises to take the seat and seatpost off of his Orbea. That would take off about a pound and he would win even if he would have to consult another doctor afterwards. Tune in. Mike's Bedford to Bethel Ride-80 miles-mike Friedlander This one is hilly and the hills are all over, but the hardest ones are at the end. A pretty ride with lunch in Bethel Connectitcut. Starts at 9 in Bedford. Most of you know how to get theer, but I will post directions. Raymond's Ride-52 miles-raymond Genao Raymond requested a Saturday lead, but we couldn't fit it in. It is possible that he may not be able to lead it, but if he does he promises a lunch stop and not a killer pace.
