2 Starting Up Spirit Week By Kristyanne Cabrera Co-Editor in Chief Doral Academy s Spirit Week started with Magic Marvel Monday on September 29. Students from all grades dressed up as their favorite characters from Magic Marvel universe. Sophomore Kamila Arap said, I really enjoyed the theme for Monday this year. One of the best themes by far since I ve been coming to Doral Academy. Across the campus, students were seen dressed as the iconic Minnie and Mickey Mouse. As well, groups of friends collaborated to make a group costume set such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Avengers. Other costumes were Tiger, Sulley, Ariel, Alice, Woody and Buzz.

3 THROWBACK TUESDAY By Mateo Haydar Staff Writer On the second day of Doral Academy s annual Homecoming Week, students from all grades threw it back to the past in honor of Throwback Tuesday. Students across all grades dressed up in clothes from the 50 s, 70 s and 80 s. Some students decided to wear clothes or even costumes from old movies, books, or television shows. Throwback Tuesday brought out the best in creativity and student interest across all grade levels. Some students decided to dress up in groups, as was the case for softball players who dressed up as Pink Ladies, Thespians dressed up as characters from The Great Gatsby, and a group of seniors who dressed up as The Twelve Apostles. Other students dressed up as bikers, greasers, or in classical attire. The event had great turnout in costumes and school spirit thanks to the effort and creativity of all students and staff.

4 By Nicole Soler Co-Editor in Chief Doral Academy was ready to attack on the third day of Homecoming Week with killer camouflage for GI Joe/ Jane Wednesday. Students were creative as many came with authentic military uniforms, designer camouflage outfits and some students went as far as using tactical camouflage used in war. Other students added some life to their outfits by using face paint for their costumes with black, brown, or green smudged across their faces. Many students participated and the outcome was phenomenal with the diversity of costumes around the school. I was so excited for this day to come. I had so many ideas on how to participate and the fact that I got to do so feels awesome, said junior Veronica Hernandez. The hallways were filled with spirit and excitement for the days to come.

5 By Pamela Osorio Staff Writer This year was an outstanding Spirit Day. All the students came out and showed their school spirit. Students had their face painted white and red representing their grades. Seniors showed their spirit by bringing drums, vuvuzela horns, whistles and much more. Being their last year of high school they went all out showing an immense amount of school spirit. The underclass wasn t so behind in showing their spirit. They all dressed in white expressing that even though they are underclass, they aren t going to be the underdogs.

6 Firebirds win Homecoming By Andres Taquechel Sports Editor For the Homecoming Game, Firebirds faced Somerset Silver Palms Stallions on Thursday, October 2nd, winning 27-0.The Firebirds dominated the game, shutting down the Stallions offense. The Firebirds ran the ball well as the offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage. The Stallions were not able to get their passing game going, and the quarterback was rushed from the pocket often. The game ended at halftime due to a lightning warning. It was debated whether the game would be continued on another date, but the two teams reached to an agreement to call the game. The Firebirds received their first Homecoming win in over two years.

7 homecoming dance By Andres Taquechel Sports Editor The Homecoming Dance was a great success as students had a good time at the school gym on October 3rd. With several genres of music playing, many students were able to enjoy their favorite music and dance the night away. There were several types of pasta to eat with different sauces and toppings, made right on the spot. There was deep fried red velvet Oreos from Donut Divas for dessert as well. At the end, they announced the Homecoming Prince and Princesses. The Freshman Princess was Vanessa Salvatierra, Sophomore Prince and Princess were Adrian Moya and Lynette Vasquez, Juniors were Kenneth Santos and Emily Tsokopoulos. Homecoming King and Queen were Victor Machin and Briana Trujillo, who received sashes and continued to dance the night away.
