This national site is comprised of countless pages that provide readers with AOH history, national news, Irish links, division websites, and a ton of other resources that are just interesting to read. In addition to the national website, our division also offers its own website called AOH61.com. Magnificently maintained by Tom Burke, our site offers up-to-date news and events of Hibernian Happenings in the area. AOH61.com also offers many great links to other web sources regarding Irish heritage, coat of arms, Irish news and much more. As you can imagine, a lot of hard work is put into the sites for the convenience and benefit of all Hibernians Check it out! Since you probably already have it written in your calendars still come to the club and support your division! Reminder: Thanks to the National Convention July 7th 10th, a group of fellow Hibernians from all over the US will be stopping by our club on the night of Friday, July 9th. Since you can now enjoy the night without a pesky meeting, please come out and show your support for the AOH and show others how great a Division 61 really is! May you live to be a hundred T IR NA NOG B Y : JOE CAMPBELL Our final meeting of the season was a great success. Thanks to all those members who bought their cars to our car wash. We raised over $90 for the Tir Na Nog. Thanks to new member Ken Flight for his assistance, the cars actually left clean this year. H ALL RENTALS This was the unofficial national flag of Ireland from 1798 until the early years of the 20th century. Since the 16th century, the gold harp had been on a blue field, but the United Irishmen changed the color to green. The Green Flag was widely carried during the rebellion of often with the motto of the United Irishmen, 'Éire go Our penny drive was a great success, we are still counting but it looks like we raised over $140 plus matching gifts from the Men and Ladies division. At this time we are awaiting word from Sr. Mary Beth Garaghty Chaplin for the ladies division on what youth activity we will be awarding this money to. Thanks for all Good news, Division 61 s hall can be rented out for parties, get togethers, or just to claim it as your own for a day. If you need a place to gather a large group of people, why not consider your own AOH where all proceeds come back to the club. T HE HARP FLAG WWW. IRISHCULTUREANDCUSTOMS. The banner quickly won popular acceptance and it was used by the followers of Daniel O'Connell, by most of the Fenians, and by the supporters of Home Rule from the time of Parnell until the collapse of the Irish Parliamentary Party in who purchased or sold pizza kits, we sold over 40 kits this year. If you never picked yours up, the bartenders ate them. Watch this space for some up coming summer activities: Trip to Camden River Sharks, the Family Picnic and others. Enjoy your summer. At around 3.00 am Irish time the sun reaches the most northerly point of its oscillation and the longest day in Ireland results just over 17 hours. The sun rises over Dublin at 4.45am, and sets at 9.57 pm 24 June Feast day of St. John Ireland National Anthem The text of the National Anthem -"The Soldier s Song" or "Amhrán na bhfiann" in Irish (pronounced: "Owrawn na Veean") - was written in 1907 by Peadar Kearney, who together with Patrick Henney also composed the music. It was first published in 1912, and was formally adopted in It consists of three stanzas and a chorus, the text of which is given below: Soldiers are we, whose lives are pledged to Ireland; Some have come from a land beyond the wave, Sworn to be free, no more our ancient sireland Shall shelter the despot or the slave. Tonight we man the bearna baol* In Erin s cause come woe or weal Mid cannon s roar and rifles peal, We ll chant a Soldier s song. *(Gap of danger). Sullivan beats fellow Irishman Jack Kilrain in a world championship bout which lasts 75 rounds 14 July 2000 Kerry sheep farmer, Patrick Morana, earns a place in the Guinness Book of Records as he handshears 206 sheep in nine hours and becomes Irish and UK champion 18 July 1966 The Abbey Theatre in Dublin burns down.
