Leisure Time Alex Hunley Prairie Robbins Montana Peterson Arica Webb What do you do in your leisure time? Why that activity? Where do you go for your leisure time? Um, if I don t have homework, I check social media or meditate I need to pass classes, I like to see what people are doing. I go to the dining room table or my bed. I ride, read and clean. I ride because it s a destresser and get in practice and I clean because I like everything to be in order I will ride down the road or in the arena and I clean in my house. If I have any leisure time I write poetry. Um, it s my way of freeing my mind and putting my emotions onto paper. I sit at my desk in my room because it is the ideal spot for thinking I write a lot on Wattpad. Because you get to create your own little world I really just sit at and you can the kitchen table control and write, I write everything that everywhere but happens and its that s just my fun to see what spot. you can come up with.
Karsyn Lee receives Kansas Honors Scholar Karsyn Lee was chosen as the Kansas Honors Scholar from Tescott. The Honors Scholar is an award for being in the top 10% of your class, and for having a 4.0 GPA all four years of high school. This is something you do not actually have to apply for, you have to earn it. When Karsyn was asked what advice she would give someone who was working for this honor, she stated that you have to work hard and get good grades. Do not give up! It is a great honor to have. Tori Srna
Homecoming Parade Every year Tescott schools puts on a parade throughout the town at the end of the big homecoming week. We get the local businesses along with the fire department to go down mainstreet, while each class from the high school builds a float. This year, the theme was Wild West. The parade was held on Thursday the 18th, immediately followed by the Homecoming Pep Rally. This year the winner of the float building competition was the Freshmen. Coming in second was the Sophomores. The Seniors took third, and in last was the Juniors. All the floats looked awesome and made the day memorable.
Pumpkin Cheesecake Truffle Mummies Pumpkin Cheesecake Truffle Mummies are a cute treat that you can make in no time and are perfect to make with your family or friends. Here are the ingredients: 1½ cups gingersnap cookie crumbs ¼ cup canned pumpkin purée ⅓ cup graham cracker crumbs 3 tablespoons powdered sugar ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon ⅛ teaspoon salt 3 ounces cream cheese, softened ½ cup white chocolate chips white chocolate chips or white dipping chocolate (like CandiQuik) red food coloring If you are interested in making these go to this website and see how to do it!
Origin Of Hallow s Eve Halloween (or Hallows Eve), Day of the Dead, and All Souls day all originated from the same holiday called SamHain. SamHain is a celtic fire festival, where they would light a bonfire and wear costumes to fend off ghosts. Does this sound familiar? SamHain is used to celebrate the end Of the harvest season right before the beginning of winter, or the darker half Of the year. It got its name from Lord Samhain, also known as Lord of Darkness, Lord of the Dead, and many other titles.
Student Spotlight Taylor Thornhill Taylor Thornhill was put in the spotlight for this month. She is a Freshman so she is new to everything high school related. I asked her a few questions, starting off with how her first year of high school has been. Taylor s response was that it has been a lot harder than 8th grade, but she likes the fact that you get more involved. She was also asked what her favorite part about being a high schooler has been, and she stated that her favorite was STUCO and that she is looking forward to quiz bowl. Her post secondary plans so far consist of being an accountant or being a teacher. Some advice she would give the 8th graders going into high school would be to keep an open mind when it comes to doing extra activities, and not just turn them down.
FFA Dairy Judging Dairy is such a commodity for American society these days, but how in the cow do we judge it? Well these four students that I interviewed have the answer! When asked what they judge, Cody Flax said that they judge whether or not a cow can be a good producer of milk for Americans. When asked what they get if they place in the top ten, Garrett Phelps answered that they get a medal and if they place in the top three, they get a plaque. I asked Emma Adams what she would be nervous or scared about and she said that she was nervous because it would be cold and raining. I asked Jackie Milleson what she hoped to achieve and she said she hopes to have a relatively good placement, maybe in the top 10.
Pep Rally Game For the pep rally game the Homecoming king and queen candidates had to drink out of baby bottles. The girls had to drink carbonated grapefruit water, while the boys had to drink carbonated lime water. Dillon McCosh, however, had to drank pickle juice. The girls had to go first and as soon the they finished the boys could start. The first team to finish would win. 1st place - Cassidy and Dillon 2nd place - Tori and Conner 3rd place - Karsyn and Mark
Popular Halloween Costumes of 2018 Here is a top 10 list of the most popular costumes of 2018, according to een-costume-ideas-2018 Coming in at number one is Fortnite themed costumes. Climbing his way to number two is Spider-man. Coming in magically at number three is a unicorn. Trampling in at number four is a dinosaur. Brewing in at number five is a witch. Bashing her way to the number six spot is Harley Quinn. Plundering their way to number seven is a pirate. Hopping its way to number eight is a rabbit. Taking the tiara at number nine is a princess. Joking his way to number ten is a clown.
Homecoming Dance The Tescott High School Homecoming Dance took place on October 20. Although the theme was western, that didn t stop Spider Man and Captain America from making an appearance! Gabe Mendoza, appearing as Spider Man and Mark Luder as Captain America, made the night ten times better. It s not very often that super heroes make an appearance in small towns like ours. The dance started at eight and ended at eleven, but the night didn t end for us then! Carrying on the tradition, we went to IHOP after the dance. It s always an experience when a group of us go out to eat at midnight. There were a lot of memories made, and more to come throughout the rest of the year. Although this was the last Homecoming for many of us, this was just the beginning of many firsts for others.
Featured Staff Member Jean Still This month s featured staff member is our favorite secretary, Jean Still. The part of her job she likes most is that each day is different and she also likes the people she gets to work with. This is her seventh year here at Tescott schools. My favorite memory is when I was expecting my son, Clayton and the staff threw me a baby shower. The sixth grade class at that time gave me a cowboy hat piggy bank filled with change. When ask what made her want to be a secretary she replied, My job is not what I had pictured, but life changes for a reason. It s not going to make me a million, but I love my job.
Coping with Anxiety Now, I m sure you guys know what anxiety is but for those of you that aren t too sure on what it means, anxiety is a feeling of nervousness, fear, apprehension, and stress. I m going to offer a few tips on how to deal with anxiety. Here we go: Take a time-out (practice yoga, listen to music, basically learn relaxation techniques) Do your best, don t aim for perfection, be proud of how close you can get. Take deep breaths Accept that you cannot control everything. Schedule your worry time. It may sound like a backward plan but doctors actually recommend that you pick a time to think about your fears on purpose. Take 30 minutes to identify what s bothering you and what you can do about it. So whenever you re feeling anxiety coming on, just remember at least one of these ways to help you.
Chloephobia Phobias are often an irrational fear of something. For example, if you had Chloephobia, you would be afraid of newspapers. These are some of the most bizarre ones you may not have known of. Dementophobia is the fear of insanity or becoming insane. For example, after doing research and listening to documented cases, Zane started to grow afraid of the possibility of people around him going insane. But what of a Fear of Fear? Phobophobia, the fear of phobias. After realizing there's no escaping fear, Sue began to grow afraid of having fears. Fear is also more than a psychological affliction. Take Hylophobia, the fear of trees. Chloe might be afraid that a tree will fall on her if she stands near it, causing her to avoid them at all cost. Additionally, there s Nomophobia, the fear of being without mobile phone coverage. James may start to panic if he can t be in contact with his family over his phone or anyone else. An important question would be to ask, what are you afraid of? The small ticking from inside the wall? The window that can t close all the way? Spiders crawling around your home just out of sight? Beware, for you might just have a phobia, too.
