1 UNIT 3 COURIER Fostering Community Spirit Through Positive Communication Volume 21, Issue 9, September 2016, Mainlands of Tamarac by the Gulf Unit 3 Website Editor, Peter Cunningham, or mainlands@comcast.net Mainlands Cable TV info channel 732 (w/hd cable box) or 98.1 (w/o box) HOB PRESIDENT S MESSAGE JIM CRAIG WELCOME BACK TO OUR NEIGH- BORS FROM THE NORTH As you will see everything is as you left it except for a very large road patch in front of the clubhouse. Your neighbors can fill you in on the details of the water main break. Fortunately, it turned out to be not as bad as it looks. Some of the things you missed over the summer was a trip to Tropicana Field for a Rays game. We also had a boat tour of Tampa Bay from the Port of Tampa. Then there was the trip to see the monkeys (primate sanctuary); ask the ones who went about that one. And there was also a very nice July 4th celebration that included some great food. Those who were here enjoyed an ice cream social Sunday, August 28th. If you missed that, plan on coming to the Labor Day End-of-Summer party at the clubhouse. There will be some business to take care of as you return. HOB meeting, Thursday, September 22, 7 o'clock with 6:30-7:00pm question and answer open forum with 3 min time limit per speaker. Our ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING will be October 29th at 1pm. At this meeting three board positions will be voted on. Also a vote on a partially or fully funded budget will be voted on. The first mailing for this meeting was sent out on August 29th and contains the form for you to submit to run for office and a proposed budget among other things. Then on September 24th the second notice will go out. Proxies will be in this mailing among other things. Remember it s VERY IMPORTANT we have a quorum meeting, so everyone please be there. for this If you cannot be there please fill out and return the proxy ballot. Thank you for being an active member in your community. Jim Craig Here s a handy form to keep your very important medications on. Fill it out, cut it out, and stick it on your refrigerator 1
2 SOCIAL CLUB Barbara Konvicka, President Welcome back Courier. Been busy here in Unit 3 this past summer with many activities. Thanks goes out to Flo Guimond and her faithful workers for keeping Bingo going. Also to the Women's Club for sponsoring so many great excursions that included the men. Peter Cunningham is our year-round messenger that keeps us informed of happenings. Our end of summer fling will be Labor Day, Monday, Sept 5th, 5pm at the Club House, tickets $8. Nancy Crigger is the ticket master. You can get tickets at Kaffee Klatch or call her to reserve your tickets; phone The menu is by Chef Joe and helpers. If you all enjoyed the 4th of July party wait til you see this one! Mel will be our fun host; something for everyone. Come and enjoy; ticket sales for this event end after KK on September 1st. I cannot wait for the fall season to start; we have so many Social Club sponsored activities, plus all the clubs will be back in full form. Come to KK on Thursday mornings at 8:30am. We discuss upcoming events and items of community interest. Tickets can be purchased there for the many events during the year - see you there. Barbara WOMEN S CLUB Deb Engstrom, President Thanks to 1st VP Flo Guimond for organizing all our summer activities. It's been great fun! We have been on monthly luncheons, toured the solid waste facility, taken a boat tour of Tampa Bay Harbor, and been to "The Beach" at Amalie Arena. Summer fun is not over yet. There will be a lunch outing on Friday, Sept. 16, leaving the clubhouse at 11am. (open to all ladies in unit 3). We will also have an outing on Tuesday, Sept. 27, leaving the clubhouse at 9:30am. Look for further details and sign up sheets for both activities on the clubhouse bulletin board. Our regular monthly meetings/luncheons at the clubhouse will begin Friday, Oct 21 at 12 noon. We have many great things planned for the coming year and hope you will join us. We are still looking for board members for the coming year. Please contact a current board member if you are interested. UNIT 3 HANDBOOK REMINDERS RULES & REGULATIONS: In May of 2016, several updates were made, most of them regarding parking and construction code. All changes can be viewed on our website at (click on Condo Documents in the upper right corner). All updates are highlighted. There is also a paper copy (PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE) located in the clubhouse office for your review. PARKING REMINDERS: 12:00am to 6:00am - NO overnight street parking. You CAN and WILL be towed at owners expense. This is so emergency vehicles can get through. Seconds count in an emergency! (Note updated time change). Overnight parking in the clubhouse parking lot requires a current (UNEXPIRED) permit obtained at the Mainlands office. You CAN and WILL be towed without it. MEN S CLUB Collin Simpson, President We are anxiously awaiting the return of our winter residents and friends. With them, and the advent of the new cooler season, activities will be intensifying. The next meeting of the Men's Club will be on Thursday, September 8th, at 6pm. As customary, refreshments and food will be served. All male residents of Unit 3 are welcome as our guests. Please sign the list on the club house bulletin board if you wish to attend. Looking forward to seeing you there. Collin BINGO Flo Guimond Bingo went well all summer. Looking forward to the return of the snowbirds and the change in volunteers for the winter months. Along with the changes, will come my departure from running bingo. I need to start with thanking all the "faithful" ones that have been with me forever, who help to keep things running smoothly. You are the "best" group of volunteers that there is. I will still be present but in a lesser role. For the new people, Bingo is held on Tuesdays at 6pm with games starting promptly at six. Come and enjoy the social atmosphere. 2

Peter Cunningham, Courier Editor UP IN FLAMES There s a hidden fire hazard in almost every home.it s the dryer vent! Over time, your dryer vent fills with lint. Fires can occur when lint builds up in the dryer or in the exhaust duct. Lint can block the flow of air, cause excessive heat build-up, and result in a fire. Have your vent professionally cleaned by a certified appliance repair person. Holland America Cruise on the Oosterdam, February 17-24, 2017 (Social Club sponsored activity) Let's go CRUISE! We have group space on the beautiful Oosterdam on it's first season out of the Port Of Tampa, The price not only includes the cruise cost, but also includes TAXES and PORT FEES, round-trip transfers from Mainlands to the port of Tampa, 2 shore excursions, AND 1 dinner in Holland American's signature Pinnacle Grill. You can choose not to participate in the shore excursions and have a $100 shipboard credit instead. (A great option for those that just want to put their feet up and relax onboard!) This is a western Caribbean itinerary and includes port stops in Key West, Roatan (Honduras) Santos Tomas de Castilla (Guatemala) and Costa Maya (Mexico). The per person rate (double occupancy) for a balcony cabin is $1450, an Outside Cabin is $1310 and an inside cabin is $1130. If you are single and looking for a cabin share, let us know and we will do our best to find a suitable cabin mate. (sorry guys, it won't be a woman!) Call Debbie Krumreich ( ) or Elaine Wright ( ) 3
