LRCCC NEWS Easter Newsletter March 2018 An Easter Message Spring is almost here, Easter is just around the corner and I'm sure many of us can't wait to enjoy rallying in better weather. We have already had several winter rallies that were well attended. Many with fantastic entertainment, which by looking at the amount of people on the dance floors, everyone seemed to enjoy. The Youth Rally has had a tremendous response and Jake, your Youth Leader, has an inflatables disco booked for Friday night, several inflatables for the Saturday afternoon and a walk to the large wooded play area in the grounds of Weston Park. It promises to be a fun filled weekend for adults and children alike. The 45th Birthday Rally preparations are well underway and there are a lot of plans in place. We have Craig Halford, always a firm favorite on our rallies, who I'm sure many people are looking forward to seeing again. We also have Rang-A-Tang, a real party band with their unique performance for our evening entertainment. On Sunday we have lots of attractions and live music planned during the day, I would love to see LRCCC & BL members out to help us celebrate. I will be excited to see all of your wonderful rally photographs that hopefully you will be uploading to the LRCCC website. I look forward to seeing you all on the rally field and enjoying the wonderful venues that we are visiting. I can't wait to get the BBQ & deck chairs out and sit in the sun. Julie Derbyshire. Chair. 2 New Year Rally Evesham School We welcomed in the New Year with a fantastic five days of fun, laughter and dancing. The rally at Evesham was attended by fifty seven units over five days. The rally kicked off on Thursday with a games evening. Bingo was followed by Deal or No Deal, where Stephan Kril won 50. Play Your Cards Right, with Dave Mills as your delightful Dolly Dealer saw several people walk away with 5 prizes. Thursday evening also saw the first evening of our silent disco. Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings were all kicked off with a Full English Breakfast which went down a treat and was enjoyed by everyone. On Friday night we were entertained by the fantastic Bierkeller Schunklers Oompah Band. It proved to be a fun packed evening of silly dances, singing and laughter. It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves and joining in the fancy dress. The LRCCC Darts Competition was held on Saturday afternoon, with Pete Huat and Scott Williams winning through to the Grand Final. The final was played on Saturday evening, complete with walk on girls and intro music. Scott Williams proved victorious and ran out as winner. The Darts Final was followed by the incredible Killerstream. This brilliant band had us dancing all night long to some of our favourite songs. To finish off, they welcomed a new band member on stage Debbie Edwards. She was amazing!!! New Year s Eve was a formal night with a fizz reception and the casino. We welcomed in the New Year with a disco from Jake. After coffee morning on Monday, many people had to go home. For the few that were left on Monday evening, we enjoyed a quiet takeaway and a game of bingo. A fabulous few days with some lovely people.
Barnstones 2018 What a fantastic Rally to kick off A wonderful location just outside Banbury, with hard standing and electric hook ups. On Friday night we were all welcome to meet up in the local village hall, where Dave was taking orders for our Saturday night fish & chip suppers. A great chance to meet up and chat with friends and enjoy Dave s famous bingo calling skills. LRCCC On Saturday morning we met up in Banbury for a few fun packed hours of ten pin bowling, organised by Jake. It was a brilliant days entertainment, everyone that took part had a great time, both young and old. With yours truly running out as the King Pin bowler of the day. Saturday night we were back down the village hall for our fish & chip suppers, Bingo, raffle and a delve into Dave s big quiz book. We also had the Bonus ball and a Bonus-bonus ball due to a few technical difficulties. Drayton Manor Dinner & Dance Well done to all of the hardy caravaners that made it out in their caravans and motorhomes for what proved to be a great weekend. Although all of our members that booked into the nice warm hotel didn t seem to complain or miss their caravans too much either. We had a great turn out on Saturday night, with everyone looking superb in Posh Frocks and Dickie Bows. A great event, with gorgeous food and a great disco. I am sure everyone will be looking forward to attending again next time around.
Valentines Rally The valentine rally started off on Friday with Scott's speed bingo (rather than speed dating!), then we had a game of feel what's in the bag which was a good laugh to see all the sorts of different answers we had - a whip seemed to be a popular answer to a lot of the items in the bag and then we finished the night with Jake's request a song disco. On Saturday evening the room was decorated for a romantic valentine celebration. We started the evening with a drinks reception and then a three course meal followed by evening entertainment from Pippa Longhorne with a mix of different styles of music which filled the dance floor all night long. Sunday morning was coffee morning in the village hall. Ian picked out the first raffle ticket which turned out to be his own, but after that he let the rest of the room have a go. The Land Rover CCC Oscars Well done to all of our Award Winners as this year s Oscars The winners are:- Fisherman of the Year Jim Howliston Picture of the Year Lauren Sharpe (Just Chillin) Most Attended Kevin, Patricia & Kara Hadley Rally of the Year Youth Rally Youth of the Year Amber Derbyshire Women of the Year Julie Derbyshire Man of the Year Ian Derbyshire Special Recognition Award 2018 The Derbyshire Family In addition to these worthy winners, we of course had our Fun awards and a special well done goes to Sandra Sharpe, Carol Bunn, Scott Davies-Jones, Jason Bedworth & our Irish Dancing team. Also well done to Barry Muir for winning the 20 voucher when his name was drawn out the hat from the all the people that voted. Finally, thank you to everyone that voted without you there would be no Oscars so please remember this and get your votes in for 2019, it only takes 2 minutes!
The Green Man A chilled out weekend at The Green Man, Long Itchington. The Fish & Chip van was once again a firm favourite with everyone on Friday night, especially as we were able to enjoy a pint or two in the pub whilst eating them. Many members enjoyed watching the rugby with a couple of drinks on Saturday afternoon, but maybe not the final score. Saturday night we were entertained by Dave with his bottle top bingo. Everyone helped out Sunday morning making sure caravans got safely off the field. St Patrick s Rally Gentleshaw With spring just around the corner it was a very win- tery feel to the St Patrick s weekend at Gentleshaw this year, but despite the snow 19 units braved the elements for some Irish themed fun. On Saturday, the evening was kick started with Jane and Sandra s warming Irish Stew. Then following the Irish bingo it was time for the return of I m a Leprechaun get me out of here. Contestants were faced with even more gruesome challenges and this year the top two went head to head in Kiosk Kielty s golden coin decider. Sarah Shaw winning the overall game. The disco concluded with Michael Flatfeet and the Riverdance line up. A great weekend was had by all.
45 th BIRTHDAY RALLY Plans are now well underway with the subcommittee for our 45 th birthday rally. You can book onto this fantastic event via the LRCCC website or by sending in a Rally Booking Slip like any other rally. Friday starts with jacket potatoes and various fillings at a small cost, followed by a couple of games and then our LRCCC disco will get the party started. Saturday will see the return of Craig Halford who needs no introduction. Sunday day is our main birthday celebrations, from 11am to 4pm we will have bouncy castle, rodeo sheep, climbing wall and inflatables all free of charge and we will have food and drink with a beer and fizz bar plus tearooms (all for a small charge) and live music. Broad Lane caravans will be attending along with Kampa Air Awnings and we have lots of side stalls in place/planned. Sunday night we have one of the best party bands RANG-A-TANG to finish the party off with a bang. Monday will finish off with our raffle which we hope will be a raffle not to be missed with lots of donations already received from various companies. The cost of the rally is just 45 for the weekend. Best of all all profits we make will go to Macmillan Cancer Support our chosen LRCCC charity of the year for our 45 th birthday year. We are still looking for people to help with running stalls, if you are interested please contact Ian Derbyshire. Also we need donations for the raffle/tombola so if you have anything to spare please pass this on to any of the sub-committee or committee.
Sandhills, Isle of Wight 6 th July-19 th August 2018 We have sole use of a very large field on this site at Whitecliff Bay. The field is gently sloping which offers fabulous views of the island and The Solent. There is plenty of room for children to play games and ride bikes. Bob & June and Vic & Jane offer a friendly welcome and socials most weeks. From the site you can walk up Culver Down to The Culver Inn for a drink and a meal or just to sit and take in the extensive views from Shanklin to Portsmouth whilst enjoying a quiet pint. You can also walk to The Propeller Inn, offering good food and drinks with a view of the light aircraft taking off from Bembridge Airport. Both Bembridge (village and large harbour) and Sandown (traditional seaside town) are within a couple of miles walk along the coastal path from the site. There is a bus stop at the entrance to the site to explore other parts of the island. The site has access to Whitecliff Bay beach, which is just a five minute walk through the site, no roads to cross. The beach offers safe bathing with a sand and shingle beach, numerous rock pools, two cafes and beach shops along with marvellous views. As anyone who has been to the Isle of Wight will tell you, the island has it s own micro-climate, and the weather is very often much better here than in other parts of the UK mainland. Sandhills has a shop and reception for local information, as well as a laundrette. The Isle of Wight has a lot of attractions, many suitable for families and there are numerous events such as carnivals and firework displays. There are many towns to visit such as Ryde, Cowes, Ventnor and Shanklin. Along with well known attractions like The Needles and Blackgang Chine. Go and see Sandown Zoo, Godshill Model Village, Dinosaur Island, Carisbrooke Castle, Robin Hill Steam Railway and Queen Victoria s famous Osbourne House. The site is just 12 per night with electric hook up. If you need any advice with ferry crossings or any information about the site speak to Bob Vaughan on Please note, no pets allowed on site.
2019 LRCCC Calendars Following the success of the 2018 LRCCC Charity Calendar, we have decided for 2019 to produce the first official LRCCC slim line calendar. Images will be selected from photographs uploaded onto the Land Rover CCC website. So if you want to be in with a chance of getting one of your photos onto next years calendar then don t forget to upload your favourite rally photographs. You have until August to get your photos in. Honorary Membership Did you know that if you are over 60 and have been an LRCCC member for six or more consecutive years then you can apply for honorary membership. Put you request in writing to Dean Sharpe (address in the rally book) and he will process it for you if you qualify. Members Discounts Did you know that as a member of LRCCC you can claim up to a 10% discount on purchases made from Jacksons of Old Arley, Broad Lane Leisure and Seaflo in Cradley Heath. Just produce your membership cards at point of sale. Chemical Toilets It has been brought to the Committees attention that Club Members have recently been seen washing out Chemical Toilets at fresh water taps. This practice is a severe health & safety risk and must stop immediately. Chemical Toilets should never be taken to a fresh water point for any reason. A suitable fresh water container should be used to wash out chemical toilets at the Elsan Point. Children's Christmas Cards LRCCC run a Children s Christmas Card scheme each year. All members children or grand children who attend four or more rallies throughout the year qualify for an additional gift from Santa at the Christmas Party. As part of our 45th Anniversary celebrations & to encourage families to rally within the British Leyland, we have now opened this offer to other Association club's members. The scheme runs from Christmas party 2017 to November If you attend a LRCCC rally please make sure you collect a card from Jake, or other Committee member. We can back sign any for rallies you have already attended. We d love to hear from you, if you have any stories, announcements, birthdays or anniversaries. Please let us know for the next edition. Maybe you have recently run an LRCCC Rally and would like to tell everyone about the fantastic fun you all had. Website: Facebook: Land Rover Camping and Caravan Club (Official)

Royal International Air Tattoo, Fairford, July This year the RAF have chosen RIAT as their showpiece event celebrating RAF100, the centenary of the Royal Air Force. This means some changes to previous years, including a full 7 hours of flying on Friday with a special RAF fly past. The show organisers are indicating that due to the large number of aircraft expected this year they may have a different flying programme on each of the 3 days. The rally field is on the flight path for the display, positioned near the end of the runway, there is no need to pay to enter the show, just sit outside you van and watch the show above your head, an incredible experience. For those that can arrive early the rally starts on Thursday afternoon and if you want to stay on then the rally finishes on Monday. We have managed to keep the price the same again this year at 15 per night, however in a change to previous years we require a deposit when booking and full payment one month in advance. This unfortunate change is due to the number of units that booked on but didn't attend last year and is the only way we could retain the rally field at this price. British Leyland Camping and Caravanning Association We are looking for sponsors to place adverts in the 2019 Rally Book The cost is 100 full page 50 half page If you would like to place an advert please let me have It A.S.A.P. If you require further details, please contact Lisa Gibson barnnet2@blueyonder.co.uk
