Happy August and here s hoping that your summer has been exciting and full! The First Lady and Commodore ventured out to Martin Slough to celebrate the second annual Rocking the Cove and it was great. MCYC represented with 5 member boats attending, we even had our own David and Linda come up for the day Dolphin does such an incredible job on events and are so appreciative of our attendance and support. We are on their guest list for upcoming events at their dock at Martin Slough which is awesome. The Tidrick s put on the Ritz for their son s wedding reception here at our club and from the feedback all had a great time at MCYC. We are interviewing several prospective members this month for both membership, potential slips as well as potential neighbors at one of our part time homes that is for sale now. Exciting for all of us to get to interact with some new members with enthusiasm and a fresh perspective on what a boating and social club means to them. I personally am very excited for new neighbor! Hot August Nights is a few days away and we are still trying to get a feel for those participating, please answer your evite or contact Mike and Kendra to rsvp and offer up some help for the evening. Our next big social event is our Lady s dinner in September and we are in need of every member being involved with the donations for the raffle. MCYC goes to our vendors, restaurants, shops and any business or person that can donate items for our St. Patty s event every year, so we need to respect and be careful not to offend and take advantage of their good nature, we need to ask our members to take the initiative themselves to sponsor an item for the Lady s Dinner. We now have our white boards for projects up and will be outlining many, many things that need to be taken care of down here. I am a little heavy hearted lately due to the many members that come down on a beautiful weekend, enjoy our incredible club but yet never attempt or inquire about some of the small things that need to be done every day here. The restrooms are used by everyone but yet never get the attention they need. We all need to be a little more diligent regarding the simple things that need to be done! Please get involved, participate, communicate and support our club. I have committed to our First Lady that I will reach out to every member for your support at this year s dinner.remember this is an event that is truly enjoyed and anticipated by many different yacht clubs lets really show our colors! There was no way to get her onto the life ring and to a ladder because boats were there and their bows were facing where she fell in...so we could not use the boats ladders.

I just thought the Board should know what happened and maybe we should discuss potential safety devices we can employ during parties or special events.

Keep up the great work! I thought everyone should know that Diane Rilling fell into the water during Hot August Nights. She fell in at the spot where the side dock descends down onto the front dock on the A dock side of the club. There was no way to get her onto the life ring and to a ladder because boats were there and their bows were facing where she fell in...so we could not use the boats ladders. It was too far to try and swim to Larry's boat so we just hauled her out. She has a bruise on her arm yesterday and I would imagine she is hurting a bit on her chest and legs. I just thought the Board should know what happened and maybe we should discuss potential safety devices we can employ during parties or special events...maybe an extra removable ladder...a horseshoe type ring...more lines for sure...things like that. Thanks. -Dave Karpeles Teresa and I worked out a solution for the emergency ladder issue. It's not perfect but it sure would have made it easier for Diane to get out of the water. As you can see from the attached pictures it works on a multitude of attachments points. Cleats, Bull Rails, and posts to name a few and is very easy for anyone to use. This may not be the ultimate answer but we have something in place for now. Gib & Teresa Colistro
