Amy Chang volunteering at Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast. United in the Service of Magic CKI clubs throughout Florida congregated in Tampa on UF students and Kiwanis Advisor, Steve Haulman, at DCON. February 20 th -22 nd to attend this year s District Convention. Twenty-one members from our club experienced a weekend full of service and bonding opportunities, not only with each other, but with members from other clubs in the state. It was really fun to meet others from the different CKI clubs. I m also really glad I got to get closer to some of the amazing members of UF s CKI! said AJ Hochsztein, a first year attendee. Awards were announced during banquet, and the University of Florida thrived, receiving many awards including Most Outstanding Faculty Advisor and Club of the Year. This was a bittersweet way to celebrate the club s accomplishments for our seniors who attended. My last DCON experience was definitely unforgettable. Being a part of the District Board as LTG has shown me a new side of DCON. All the goals we have been working toward for our district and division are finally shown and rewarded for here. If you truly want to get the most of your CKI experience, I highly suggest you attend DCON next year, said Sonya Vachhani. Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast Service, Social, K-Family, and Fundraiser all in one. That is what the Kiwanis Pancakes event entailed of. For $5, unlimited pancakes and sausage were offered, while members served breakfast or enjoyed each other s company. The Kiwanis Pancake Day is my favorite K-Family event in Gainesville, FL. All branches of the Kiwanis Family are able to meet and interact while enjoying a lovely breakfast, said MD&E chair, Erica Riano. Aktion Club Dance The Tacachale Aktion Club is a service oriented club under the umbrella of Kiwanis for adults with disabilities. K-Family chair, Brittany Munyer, organized a Roaring Twenties themed dance in conjunction with the Aktion Club members. Planning the dance was quite stressful, but seeing both our members and the Aktion club members have so much fun together made it all worth it. Not to mention the cake was a huge hit! said Munyer. 2 CKI members in their Roaring Twenties attire.

Pie the Board Fundraising chair, Brent Beck, brought back pieing the board in order to raise money for the club.

Once the bidding came to an end, the event moved outside to the Turlington area. Those who won the bids were given a plate full of whipped cream, which was then smeared onto the board members face.

Puttin on the Ritz The 28 th Annual Puttin on the Ritz, themed Moulin Rouge, took place on February 28 th at the Gainesville Country Club.

3 Pie the Board Fundraising chair, Brent Beck, brought back pieing the board in order to raise money for the club. At the end of the general meeting, an auction took place to pie both past and present board members. Current Vice President, Brittany Munyer, and past Editor, Oscar Bergeron, were each sold for $20! Once the bidding came to an end, the event moved outside to the Turlington area. Those who won the bids were given a plate full of whipped cream, which was then smeared onto the board members face. First up, as pictured, was Tori Kiepke who pied her Big, Griffin Plattner. This fun event raised $134 for the club, which is more than any other fundraiser this year! Puttin on the Ritz The 28 th Annual Puttin on the Ritz, themed Moulin Rouge, took place on February 28 th at the Gainesville Country Club. Guests had a wide range of auctioned items to silently bid on. All of the proceeds from this event benefited the Children s Home Society, a nonprofit organization that provides services against child abuse. Eliminate BBQ In order to raise money for the Eliminate project, co-chairs Max Dunevitz and Jacob Hultman barbecued their way to success. For just $7, UF students could purchase burgers and shish kabobs grilled by Hultman. Members met in the Murphree area, where games of corn hole took place. Many people came out, including non- Ckiers, said Dunevitz. About $125 were raised from this successful event. CKI volunteers near the dance floor. CKI members served food, cooked by local restaurants, and helped clear tables near the dance floor. It was a lot of fun and the music was amazing. I danced pretty much the entire time, said member, Kenny Do. This six hour event allowed CKI members to meet local franchises, and serve others in an enjoyable atmosphere. Holi Holi is a spring festival, also known as the festival of colors or the festival of love. Our CKI members gathered at UF Holi on March 28 th where free t-shirts and Krishna lunch were provided.

At a set time, the crowd was told to open their bags and throw them in the air or at each other.

Lake Wauburg Spring is in the air, and CKI members took advantage this past weekend. Social chair, Melissa Betancourt, planned a day at Lake Wauburg where food and games were aplenty.

Games such as ladder golf, croquet, and volleyball were very popular among the members throughout the afternoon.

4 Holi Holi is a spring festival, also known as the festival of colors or the festival of love. Our CKI members gathered at UF Holi on March 28 th where free t-shirts and Krishna lunch were provided. CKI members before and after the colored powder was thrown. Everyone was supplied with two plastic bags full of colored powder. At a set time, the crowd was told to open their bags and throw them in the air or at each other. It was wonderful to experience the celebration of spring from another culture, said Lieutenant Governor Ella Hoogenboezem. With over 1,400 participants, the event was a hit and everyone had a blast. Lake Wauburg Spring is in the air, and CKI members took advantage this past weekend. Social chair, Melissa Betancourt, planned a day at Lake Wauburg where food and games were aplenty. Burgers and hot dogs were grilled, with the help of Alex Meadows. There was an array of chips, cookies, and even pasta cooked by ELIMINATE co-chair, Max Dunevitz. Games such as ladder golf, croquet, and volleyball were very popular among the members throughout the afternoon. While some swung from trees on a hammock, others took over the water with kayaks and paddleboats. The social served as a great way for members to bond before the semester comes to an end. With less than two weeks away from Relay for Life, co-chairs Adam Bentley and Ria Shah have been working endlessly to raise money for our team. The second annual Relay Lock-In took place on March 20 th at a local church basement. Members worked together for six hours through the making of friendship bracelets, dog toys made from old t-shirts, and a In Memory Of board. CKI members also partook in bracket game tournaments to raise money. Friendly competition in ping pong, air hockey, and billiards allowed everyone to have a good time while helping a good cause. The winners received baked Relay Lock-In President, Chizoba Ezenwa, playing pool. home goods made from one of our members, Nicole Dan. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped prep for Relay, said Bentley. It was a successful night, and we cannot wait until April 10 th for the big event. 4
