Harry Potter and the Prisoners of Lock-In UF CKI had our fall service lock in from Friday, November 18th at 7pm to 7am the next day. The theme was Harry Potter and the Prisoners of Lock In. Service chairs Katie Barta and Kate Kolarova put together 12 hours of service, leadership, and fellowship. Our members learned about leadership from a local Kiwanian, Pat Bartlett, and reflected on why they joined and stayed in CKI. District board members Phoebe Sartori and Shaun Ragasa joined, along with UCF CKI alum Cathy Telfer and Citrus Lieutenant Governor Anthony Perez. Veer Choudhry stayed for the entire 12 hours by keeping busy with the activities to take his mind off of sleeping. It is a fun way for all of the CKI fam to bond and we get to do a bunch of fun things together while locked in, Veer said. My favorite part of Lock In was the tournament because I love a good bit of healthy competition. Kate and Katie polled the club several times before the theme was decided. They came up with the concept for decorations, and even wrote Hogwarts acceptance letters to invite the members to lock in. Webmaster Laura Paklin even created a snapchat filter. Pat Bartlett speaking to our members about leadership and ethics. 2

Maggie Milewski, Molly Fulmer, and Jennifer Moscovitch decorate octopus crafts that will be given to students in the Alligator Pals program. School Outreach chair AJ Hochsztein will be delivering the crafts on the right to the school with the next letters. Members who came to lock in took a quick break to take a Diamond Pichardo and Billy Hackett, picture before moving on to more service, fellowship, and a big/little pair, rest on the floor to get leadership. ready for the rest of lock in. 3

District Convention When? Where? How much? February 17th-19th Orlando $185 Scholarships There are scholarships provided by the district and the club. You can apply using the application posted in the Florida District of Circle K International group. it to both treasurer@floridacirclek.org and Orinda. Do not pay when you register. A hotel room with four people for Friday and Saturday night, all meals on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday, a t shirt and professional workshops It s a great weekend to de-stress from school, hang out with friends from all over the Florida District, and remember what makes CKI so incredible. Its a weekend of Service as we participate in our Spring District Large Scale Service Project, Leadership as we celebrate the leaders of the year as well as elect new district leadership for the year, and Fellowship as we celebrate the accomplishments of our own clubs as well as strengthen our friendships with members around the district. - Brittany Munyer How can I run for district office? Contact the lieutenant governor for our division (Suwannee), Diamond Pichardo. 4

Relay for Life UF CKI has a Relay for Life team that comes together every spring. Relay for Life is April 7th-8th and people can sign up here You can look forward to seeing more Relay for Life fundraisers in January. You can donate online using credit card or cash the day of Relay. If you have any questions, ask the team captains! Meet the team captains: Larkyn Ridgway Billy Hackett Year: Third Major: History and Criminology I love CKI because it gives me the chance to do different types of service with so many wonderful people! Year: First Major: Political Science and International Studies What I desire more than anything in this life is to be the change. CKI has given me the opportunity to help members of my community as a servant leader and connect with absolutely incredible people who share my passion to make a difference! As part of this international organization, we can truly change the world one step at a time. 5

Tie Dye Pillowcase Fundraiser Fundraising Chair Travis Ryckewaert showed members how to tie dye pillows in different designs. I did mine in a spiral and used purple and pink. I liked the way it turned out mostly because it matches my room, Kathryn Smith said. Overall I enjoyed the event because I normally have no artistic ability at all but this was fairly simple and turned out good and it was fun. Builder s Club Field Day Our members bonded with our Kiwanis Family by helping out with Builder s Club field day. They watched the movie Moana, ate lunch with them at Moes and Bento, and helped them organize what they were selling for a garage sale. It was nice to see them enjoying themselves and having a good time. It brought out the inner kid in me, Marie Rivera said. 6

Member Spotlight Klea Agollari I truly enjoy working with others and I ve met some amazing people in the community and within our club Year: 2nd Major: Health Science on the pre-med track.
