2 Newsletter Staff: I cannot believe that it is already August! Time goes by so quickly after the 4 th of July. It was great seeing all the pictures on Facebook posted by Paulette and others. Jim and I enjoyed viewing the Golf Cart Parade and seeing how much fun everyone was having. We are missing all of you and the fun events that have been going on. Please be sure to check the page regarding Bingo start time and other minor changes. Do not want anyone missing out on Bingo, the pull tabs and free cake. Thanks to Marge Glass for getting a new chair for the callers and for updating the screen for the machine. Thanks also, to all the people that work the kitchen and provide great meals for Bingo Cafe. Everyone is doing a great job. Being in Maine has been wonderful. Spending time with our granddaughter, son and his fiancee, and seeing other family members and friends. We attended my 45 th High School Reunion and met up with some people that we haven't been in touch with for years. A fun time. Work as been great for me and I have loved seeing old clients and students. Going to the coast to eat Lobster and Clams has been terrific too. It is very busy but all good. I am gratefull that we have the opportunity to be here in the summer and Florida the rest of the year. We are definitely lucky. We will leave Maine on August 26 th and arrive at Saddle Oak Club on August 28 th. We are very much looking forward to arriving home and getting back into the swing of things there. Particularly catching up with everyone, participating in events and other activities along with enjoying Florida's great weather. Jasper is looking forward to his golf cart rides too. He as really missed those. I think Jim has too! See you all soon. It will great to get home. 11 MY BALLOON ADVENTURE By FRAN FRITZ Up and away in beautiful balloon has been my dream for many years. For my 80th birthday in August 2013 my children gave me two tickets for Hot Air Balloon rides for my husband and I. My husband has COPD and the doctor would not let him go. The kids decided our youngest daughter would share the ride with me since she lives in South Carolina which is closer than any of the other five. After setting up a date several times and it being cancelled because of weather, we finally got to go on June 28, We had to meet our pilot (Pat) and his follower (Adam) at a Publix between Clermont and Celebration at 4:30 a.m. They took us in their van out to the site. Don't ask me where the site is because it was dark and I do not know that area. Once we got to the site there were six other balloons firing up. My daughter (Brenda) and her i8 year old son (Cameron) who had come with her, each held a side of the mouth of the balloon open while Pat fired it and Adam kept it straight. I ask Pat if Cameron could make the trip with us since my daughter and I were the only passengers and how much would it cost. Since our basket was small, Pat waited till Brenda, me and he were in the basket before he said yes. The tickets the kids got me were $ each. Pat said $ so I paid that and gave both Pat and Adam a $20.00 tip when we landed. What a beautiful site as one balloon after another took flight, Once up we could see each of the other balloons dotting the sky here and there just after day light. The ride was smooth, almost as if we were not moving, I felt as if I were in a little corner of heaven, We had covered 11 miles at 22-25mph and traveled 56 minutes before landing. The landing was slightly bumpy as we were told it would be. In the van with Pat and Adam heading back to Publix where we were parked Pat pulled over into a clearing at the side of the road. We all got out and Pat sat up a table and put a balloon tablecloth on it. He and Adam put out small muffins, granola bars, etc. and poured each of us a glass with a little champagne and some orange juice and we toasted the ride. My daughter and grandson did not like their mimosa so I drank theirs too. Once we were in our van and on our way home with Brenda driving, I laid my head back and slept till we got home. This was a beautiful adventure like floating on a cloud that will not let you fall.

12 On June 14 th SOC residents attended a Flag Day ceremony at the Clubhouse, hosted by Lee Justice and Jean Dugas. We all pledged our sincere allegiance to Old Glory, and were moved by a touching tribute presented by Gloria Paige. Soon after, little by little, the neighborhood began sprouting the American flag in the early summer sun: fresh flags tilted from the houses, smaller models in planters and flower beds. Flag Day, held a little while after Memorial Day, was the precursor event to our Fourth of July parade and amazingly successful pot-luck lunch. There were no left-overs!! SOC resident Anne Panasuck is seen here in a vest commemorating her husband, Walter Joseph Panasuck. Of Polish descent, he had joined the Army Air Force in World War II and was aboard a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber plane when it was blown up and went down in Germany on Walter s 32 nd mission. As a result, he became a prisoner of war until the war ended. He has since passed on, but the adage has once again proved to be true: different holidays mean different things to different people for many different reasons. Anne was proud to attend the Flag Day event, and she also rode the 4 th of July parade in her husband s honor: Walter s birthday is July 4 th.

Also, there will be NO BINGO on August 26. CHALK ONE OFF THE BUCKET LIST by Linda Otto Congratulations Fran Fritz on completing another To- Do on her bucket list. She completed a hot air balloon ride. Way to go Fran! COMMUNITY WATCH REPORT by Harry Fillmore Community Watch just completed 5 weeks of service to the community. The first 2 weeks were a learning curve for us. We learned that to avoid he said, she said - we had 2 people in the cart at all times (and this worked). We gained another volunteer. Bob Gearin will ride with Harry S. on Tuesday nights. For June, the Community Watch logged 108 hours in Saddle Oak Club and Crime Watch logged 72 hours. Soooo, for 180 hours, SOC was protected. Also, when the team is not on duty (with the white shirts on), they still are on the lookout for potential problems. Like Gloria said, she was only hollered at three times - not too bad (only kidding)! Most of the problems were: Lamp post lights not working (31) Shed doors open (6) Debris in driveways (several) Large bee or hornet hive Sleep well tonight - your Community Watch is always there for you. MYRTLE BEACH TRIP The final payment for your trip to Myrtle Beach is due on Sunday, August 10th. ~ Toots

That way the help gets out of the kitchen to also enjoy the games. MY TRAVEL PLANS FOR 2014 I have been in many places, but I've never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can't go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone. I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there. I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there thanks to my children, friends, family and work. I would like to go to Conclusions, but apparently you have to jump there and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore. I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go. I try not to visit there too often. I've been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm. Sometimes I'm in Capable and I go there more often as I'm getting older. One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age, I need all the stimuli I can get! I may have been in Continent, I don't remember what country I was in. It's an age thing. They tell me it is very wet and damp there. You can do your bit by remembering to send this to at least one unstable person. My job here is done! From one unstable person to another...i hope everyone is happy in your head - we're all doing pretty well here in mine!
