From the Newsletter Committee By now you ve noticed the new look of your Saddle Oak Club Newsletter cover. The newsletter committee names have been moved to this page, and that has allowed us to prominently feature upcoming events and dates on the cover. You ll also notice the large number of new residents we have listed in this newsletter. Counting back in previous newsletters, we have more new residents listed this month than in the rest of Many, many thanks go to Kathy Simmes and Vi Simmes for their efforts in interviewing people for the newsletter and keeping us all informed of our new neighbors. And we can t forget Bonnie Leahy who is making all of the new name tags! We ve got other changes in store, and would like to get your comments as the new Newsletter is developing. Are we going in the right direction? Are there other things you d like to see changed? How can we improve the newsletter? 3 OCTOBER, my favorite time of year. The season starts to change and residents start to venture out of the homes more often. "WELCOME BACK" to those friends and relatives that are returning for the winter. Please remember to stop by the office and let us know that "You're Back" so we can notify Crime Watch and update our records. If you need any assistance we have a "Helping Hands" Flyer in the office and Beth & I are always here to assist with whatever we can. Well that's all this month, hope to see you when I am out & about!! Quote of the Month To achieve something I never have, I have to do something I've never done. Keeping the Community Beautiful In September we focused on "Keeping the Community Beautiful" and went around and did our 4-sided inspections. I am very PROUD to say that we had 207 residents that received a "Blue Ribbon Award". Plus 24 in April. Total 231 out of 375 homes. I am confident that the residents that did not receive the award will receive one next month. Several residents have been outside taking care of the appearance of their home. Keep up the hard work, and thank you. Visitors always tell me how beautiful the community is, they are not talking about the entrance or the office, they are talking about how beautiful the residents keep their home sites. Residents take Pride in their community/home and are Proud to call Saddle Oak Club their home. Let's keep it that way. Great Job! Registering Guest Reminder, please register your guest in the office when they are here more than (1) day. I have had several reports that there are unregistered children visiting, as well as adult children. Some have been here for a long time. Our Rules & Regulations state that no one can stay at a resident's home more than 30 days a calendar year. If you have a special situation, like if you are ill and need someone to take care of you, please notify our office. REMINDER: Violation of the rules can lead to eviction. Renting Your Home Reminder, when renting your home for the season please remember that everyone living here short term or long term must come to the office and fill out an application. There is a $40.00 fee. Also, a copy of their ID. We do a Criminal Background check on every person living in the community. Please help us keep our neighbor safe and register all renters with the office.

Are those emergency contact numbers you gave still good? What about your phone number or cell number? Vehicle change? Did you have a spouse pass away in the last 10yrs? Did you bring the death certificate tot he office? Do you have a different mailing address? If you have a FL License now, stop by so we can make a copy for our Age Requirement records. 13 CAREGIVING by Fran Fritz Are you a caregiver for someone in your home? If so you may feel like I do. I wish those of us who are caregivers could get together and compare notes, exchange ideas, support each other and help each other. My idea is that we could meet once a month and talk about our situations, things we have read or heard about, new or old ideas and maybe our doctor's points of view. Sometimes it helps to know there are others going through the same things you are dealing with. This is a very touchy situation and we all may feel trapped and afraid to open up, but who knows, it may turn out to be something good for all of us. Of course this is a subject we would have to be discreet about and not a subject for general conversation or for using group members names. If you are a caregiver and this is something you would like to try, please call me at and I'll set up a date and time to meet and talk about starting a group. A TRIBUTE TO MY WONDERFUL BRIDE by Tom Pollom Thirty years ago, I met someone who changed my life; someone who was the most honest and caring person I had ever met. Three years later, we were married. Over the next twenty-seven years, we traveled extensively, made tons of new friends, shared both happy moments and sad times, and never once did she change her love of life and this makes me love her more, if that s possible. We moved here two and a half years ago, and she brought that endless spirit of truthful caring. She was particularly interested in making new friends and getting involved in this community. She is the same sweet person now that she was all those years ago, and I look forward to many more years with her! Happy Birthday!!! My dear sweet Nancy with the smiling face!

BOX TOPS for EDUCATION Since 1996, the Box Tops for Education program has helped schools across America earn extra cash for needed items that are frequently cut from school district budgets. We can help our local Saddlewood Elementary School, on the road behind Sam's Club. Each Box Top coupon is worth 10 to your school and this money can be used for anything it wants. Some schools have chosen to get computers, books, or playground equipment with the funds raised through Box Tops for Education. Please help by collecting these box tops. Products that have the coupon include: Hanes, Betty Crocker, General Mills, Ziploc, Green Giant, Progresso soups, Old El Paso, Scott, Kleenex, Cottonelle, Hefty, Hamburger Helper, Pillsbury, YoPlait, Land O' Lakes, and many more. Just look for the PINK coupon, clip it off of the package and turn them in to Kathy Smith at Bingo, Saturday Social, or anytime actually. She will turn them in to Saddlewood Elementary School office. BAKE SALE TIPS We would like to enhance the Bake Sale for our upcoming annual Craft Show. Here are a few tips that will help make your donated items more appealing and generate interest which will result in more sales. If you are baking a cake please get small foil pans (available at most dollar stores) and make 2 or 3 small cakes. Big cakes with big prices usually do not sell as well as smaller cakes. Use plates and containers you do not expect to get back. Better sales always come about when you make it easier for the potential buyer to take your donation home. Depending on size, two to eight cookies or brownies can be put in a ziplock plastic bag or covered well on a give-away or paper plate. Cookie tins are a great way to make your donation as decorative and appealing as possible. All items must be covered well and prepared to sell. Plastic wrap must cover tightly and not be falling off. No loose items please. Muffins and cupcakes cannot be sold individually from an open container so group 2 or 4 in a package. A label is a great way to identify the item and the name of the great chef. Also, the label can show the item s price or we will do so when you bring them in. Any questions? Call Joann Barber

What a wonderful Labor Day at Saddle Oak. First a very festive parade led by Jim McCourry of the Crime Watch, followed by a luncheon cooked and served by the Party Chicks of Saddle Oak. Thank You to Marge Glass, Donna Shaver, Toots Lobe, Judy Miller, Judy Lott, Suzanne May and Denise Donofrio. Thanks to Jim Hanoian for taking tickets at the door and to Paulette for taking photos for the newsletter. Without all of the great volunteers we could not hold the great functions we do. Linda Otto I would like to thank everybody who had a part in making my birthday special with all the cards and the cakes at the clubhouse. ChandraMa Hanoian I would like to thank all of you who came to my 80th birthday party on Aug. 11th, 2013 and brought cards and other tokens of friendship. I so appreciated it. Thanks to Linda Otto who worked with my daughter-in-law in Utah to arrange the party and Marge Glass and Donna Shaver for setting things up and cleaning up. Also, to Paulette McNally for the nice pictures and article in the newsletter. I also want to thank Jaunita and Jack McCague for the gift card they sent from Ohio and to Bob and Kathie Breiten, our neighbors, for the beautiful flowers they brought to the house. I can't even put into words how happy all of you made me. I'll let all of you know how the hot air balloon ride was after I've taken it. What a great family we have and what wonderful friends and neighbors make living in Saddle Oak a blessing. Fran Fritz Saddle Oak Club Neighbors and Friends: By now, many of you have heard that we have moved into a home located in Cherrywood. With its 2 car garage, larger office space, and large back yard that we can fence in for Luke, our Golden Retriever. It has been an emotionally hard decision to make moving out of Saddle Oak Club, because it is such a wonderful community and a lot of great people living here. But Cherrywood is only 10 minutes away, so we plan on keeping in touch with the many friends we have made here in Saddle Oak Club. We will continue to be a part of the sales team for Florida Real Estate Outlet. We have been very successful in selling homes in Saddle Oak Club as well as other communities. Our home building experience, our knowledge of manufactured homes, and our honest upfront approach to selling have been some of the biggest reasons for our success. We will continue that approach. See ya around the park, Max & Sandi Russell

Oh, the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer; those days of soda, pretzels and cheer. We played Florida Trivia with plenty of prizes for the winners, and enjoyed a brief compilation of local Florida lore. Martha Smith, Carly Wells and Bob Lobe were the lucky winners of the entry ticket drawing. Marge Glass, Denise Donofrio, Donna Shaver, Judy Lott, Toots Lobe, Judy Miller, Linda Otto and Gloria Paige volunteered for this event, serving up traditional Labor Day fare of potato, macaroni and spaghetti salads, raspberry tea and cold cuts on croissants. That was topped off with ChandraMa s birthday cake, along with a birthday serenade by sweet little Annemarie.

The SOC cheering section. Labor Day is a family day! Can you guess who these Party Chicks are? One hint for sure: they are SOC volunteers! Drive-in lunch? And there were folks who were actually laboring.

SADDLE OAK STITCHERS Ice Cream Social -Ice Cream Social Isn t she a beauty!!!!!! The SOC Stitchers are so grateful and thrilled that fund-raising efforts enabled them to procure a new quilting machine, and subsequently an additional part. Within approximately a year, they are back in business just in time to make even more quilts for the upcoming SOC Craft Fair. Typically, most of their handiwork is donated to Child and Family Services, where displaced children receive their own, personal quilts, made to last a lifetime. Now the Stitchers are discussing a donation to a local women s shelter, paying the blessings even further forward. At our recent Ice Cream Social, Bob Burns won the quilt raffle and Vi Simmes won the wonderful basket. Oh, and let s not forget the assorted ice creams, whipped cream, fixin s and fruit toppings, all with a cherry on top. Summer sweets: so, so very good. SOC volunteers rule!!!
