2 1. Register Online HOW TO REGISTER NEW USERS: To use our online registration program, you must have previously registered for an activity with the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department. If you are a new member, you will need to stop by one of our facilities to enroll. *Refer to #3, Walk-in. If this is your child s first time participating in a recreation activity, you must provide an original or certified copy of their birth certificate or passport. The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department does not retain a copy of birth certificates. Note: You may enroll as a new member at any point. We recommend that you enroll as a new member and have your login information ready and available prior to any registration period. RETURNING USERS: If you do not remember your username or password, click on Forgot Password and follow the directions. Your username and password will be ed to you in two s. If you are still unable to reset your password, please call the R.L. Jones Center at (843) GUIDELINES: We recommend looking through the brochure and choosing your activities prior to logging in. Note the activity number assigned to each activity, as it will be helpful when registering. Mount Pleasant Recreation Department only accepts VISA and MASTERCARD. No discounts are given online. Registration dates are set in advance and subject to change. Refer to our website, information sheets, or call for an update. How to register online: 1. Go to 2. Enter your username and password 3. Select category 4. Click on the cart icon next to the activity 5. Enroll Now (the button will appear at the very bottom of the screen) 6. Select a household member to enroll 7. Add to Cart 8. Enter your payment information MPRD POLICY: Anyone and everyone, regardless of ability, may register for a program through the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department. All Recreation Department buildings are accessible to all persons. Those needing special assistance should notify the center in advance. 2. Mail-In You can also register by mail by completing the registration form (Program and/or Youth Athletics) available online at Click on Registration Guidelines on the left-hand sidebar and download the PDF form. The form is a PDF and you will need Acrobat Reader to open it. 3. Walk-In Register in person at the R. L. Jones Center Monday-Saturday or at the G. M. Darby Building and Park West Programming Building, Monday-Friday. FAQs CHECK POLICY: A charge of $25 will apply for any returned check. Local address, South Carolina driver s license # and a date of birth are required on all checks received. SCHOLARSHIP: Scholarship forms and all documents must be turned in to a Recreation facility ten (10) days before open registration. CANCELLATION: We reserve the right to cancel any activitiy/ program in which we do not receive the minimum number of participants. Refund Policy If an activity or program is canceled by the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department, the patron will receive a 100 percent refund within two weeks of the activity or program being canceled. A processing fee will be charged for each participant s request for a program refund or transfer, as follows: Activities/programs with a fee of $16 or higher will be charged $10. Activities/programs with a fee from $11 to $15 will be charged $5. Activities/programs with a fee of $10 and under are non-refundable and non-transferable. Refund requests will be considered with at least five business days notice prior to the start of the class. Transfers must be requested at least three business days prior to the start of the class. 4 YOUTH ATHLETICS FUNdamentals In Fundamental sports, special requests for team assignment, coach or teammate are not considered. The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department places participants on teams based on side of town/school. However, there are no guarantees. Team assignments are completed after registration ends. NO AGE WAIVERS WILL BE CONSIDERED. LACROSSE 5-8 Age groups U7 and U9 as of Aug. 31, Practice begins in February. Games begin in March. Practices and games are scheduled at various locations throughout Mount Pleasant. Ten games scheduled but only 8 guaranteed. The first two rainouts are not rescheduled. U7 Participants are responsible for their own equipment, stick, gloves and mouthpiece. U9 Participants are responsible for their own equipment. Boys = helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, stick and mouthpiece. Girls = helmet, goggles, stick and mouthpiece. ACTIVITY # SOCCER Ages U5/U6/U8 coed as of Sept. 1, New teams formed in the spring. Practices/games begin in February and conclude in April. Ten games scheduled but only 8 guaranteed. The first two rainouts are not rescheduled. All practices/games played Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday, 5:30 or 6:30 pm at either Cheryll Woods-Flowers or Park West Complex Shin guards required. ACTIVITY # NEW! T-BALL AND COACH PITCH 4-7 T-Ball ages 4 & 5 as of April 30, 2019 COED TEAMS Coach Pitch ages 6 & 7 as of April 30, 2019 coed teams Practice begins in May. Games begin in June and continue thru July. GAMES WILL BE PLAYED THE WEEK OF JULY 4TH. MPRD provides game jersey and cap. Helmet with side-face guard or face mask required for Coach Pitch. Cleats can be worn but are not required. Players must supply their own glove and helmet for Coach Pitch. T- BALL # COACH PITCH # YOUTH ATHLETICS MT. PLEASANT TRACK CLUB 7-18 Track Club is a program that encompasses a variety of Track and Field events and is appropriate for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Team competes in USA Track and Field (USATF) Junior Olympics program. Practice is Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 6:00-7:30 pm at the Park West Track beginning in April through July. Additional Booster Club fee is required and must be paid separately to the club no later than 2 weeks after the first practice. Limit 300 participants. ACTIVITY # PRE-SEASON FOOTBALL 8-14 This is a six (6) week instructional program without pads to prepare players for upcoming fall 2019 football season. Participants will go through drills and conditioning by college coaches and players. Monday and Wednesday, 6:00 7:30pm at the Park West Football Field. ACTIVITY # LACROSSE Practices and games are held at various locations in Mount Pleasant. Practice begins in Feb. Games start in March. Participants are responsible for their own equipment. Boys = helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, stick and mouthpiece. Girls = helmet, goggles, stick and mouthpiece. Teams formed by schools. ACTIVITY # SOCCER 8-17 RECREATION SOCCER PROGRAM SOUTH CAROLINA ATHLETIC PROGRAMS For ages 8-17 as of September 1, No other age waiver allowed. U10 Boys/Girls separate (8-9 yr. old) U12 Boys/Girls separate (10-11yr. old) U15 Coed (12-14 yr. old) U18 Coed (15-17 yr. old) U10 play 6v6 format, U12 and U15 play 8v8 format and U18 play 7v7format. Maximum 2 games per week, Mon - Sat. Practice and games scheduled at any MPRD facility. Mandatory evaluation and league draft will determine teams. Coaches will call with practice dates, times and locations. Season begins in March and ends in May. There is no All-Star program in the spring. 5 SOFTBALL 8-16 This league is perfect for those looking for competitive local play without extensive travel obligations Teams are formed according to the schools the players attend. Schools with enough players to form more than one team are required to attend evaluations. Coaches will call players with time and location of practices beginning in March. Games begin late March. 12U play on Monday & Wednesday. 10U and 16U on Tuesday & Thursday with occasional Friday and/or Saturday. Games played throughout Charleston area (St. Andrews, James Island, North Charleston, etc.). MPRD provides a shirt and visor. ACTIVITY # (843) BASEBALL 5-13 FATHER/SON CLINIC Fathers and sons are invited to join us for two funfilled sessions of baseball training and games. Instructors: Under the instruction of John Rhodes, Head Coach and founder of the Diamond Devils baseball program and David Beckley, former Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Citadel baseball program. Park West Fields NEW! DAY DATE TIME SAT 2/16/19 9 am - 3 pm SUN 2/17/19 12 pm - 5 pm $85 resident / $115 non-resident ACTIVITY # BASKETBALL SUMMER RECREATION LEAGUE 9-17 Players may request to play on a specific team. Games played weekday evenings at various Mt. Pleasant, Charleston, Hanahan and North Charleston locations. Practice begins in late May. Games are played June and July. All coaches are volunteers. Coaches needed! No post season tournament. Ages 9-17 as of Sept. 1, 2019 ACTIVITY # (09-28) BASEBALL RECREATION AND DIXIE LEAGUES 8-18 Practice begins in March, games played Monday - Thursday with occasional Friday- Saturday for rainouts. Participants receive a shirt and hat. Post-season tournaments scheduled at end of regular season. All Stars selected in all leagues. No games during spring break, however, practice is permitted. HOKE SHULER CATCHING CLINICS 8-18 For ages 8-18 as of April 30, Instruction on framing, illusion framing, FLOW, reading batter for weaknesses, observed velocity, blocking, transfer, arm strength and improve pop times. Duffy Complex SEASON DATES TIME ACTIVITY # 8-11 Winter 1/5,12,19 Summer 7/6,13,20 $60 resident/$90 non-resident 9 am - 11 am SUMMER PALMETTO LEAGUE GRADES 6-12 Palmetto League is for teams that participated during the winter season in the Lowcountry, Trident, B-team, JV or Varsity basketball leagues. Practice begins in late May. Games played in June and July. No post season tournament. 6 THERAPEUTIC RECREATION (SPECIAL OLYMPICS) Therapeutic Recreation - Unified Sports was developed to provide year-round sports for youth and adults with and without disabilities. Through these activities, athletes learn skills, improve self-esteem and build new friendships while increasing inclusion in our community. MPRD offers year-round sports and programs including basketball, swimming, golf, kickball, softball, soccer and many social activities. Athletes can compete locally as well as internationally through Special Olympics. UNIFIED SWIM 8+ UNIFIED BASKETBALL ALL Participants meet at the R.L. Jones Center Pool Friday, 5:30-6:30, January 11 May Ages 8+/All abilities $40 Athletes must be 8yrs+ and able to swim without a partner/ volunteer. Peers must be 10yrs+ and be able to swim laps with athletes. There may be a limit of participants (due to pool size) so please sign up quickly. MPRD swim instructors work with special needs athletes. Contact Molly Hubbard, mhubbard@tompsc.com, if you would like to sign your child up for swim lessons. ACTIVITY # Participants meet in the R.L. Jones Center Gym Saturday, 9 11am, January 12 April, All ages/all abilities $20 This program accommodates all skill levels! Whether your child is learning the fundamentals or ready to take on the Miami Heat, they will have a spot on the team. Team competes at the local and state competitions in early spring! ACTIVITY # UNIFIED HIP HOP ALL UNIFIED GOLF 10+ Participants meet at the R. L. Jones Center Saturday, 11:30 am 12:30 pm. All ages/all abilities $30 DATES ACTIVITY # 1/12-2/ /2-4/ /27-6/ Participants meet at Patriots Point Links Tuesday, 4:30-6:00pm Begins late March 2019 Ages 10+/ All abilities $15 Your athlete CAN play golf! This program accommodates many skill levels. If new to the sport, participants will learn the basics of driving, chipping, putting, etc. As they begin to understand skills, they will work their way on to the golf course.
