It is a time to get together with family and friends to celebrate Christmas and reflect on our memories of those who are no longer with us to share in the joys of the holidays. Here at Timothy Eaton s we are doing the same. Our halls are busy with Christmas party rentals. The kitchen is bustling while the cooks are preparing meals for the day as well as for catering events. Over the past year we have lost some members but cherish our memories of them. On behalf of the Board of Directors I wish you all the beauty, blessings and joy this season brings. THANKS DOREEN! Our Annual Members Christmas Banquet will be held on Thursday December 15th, in the XYZ Hall. Cocktails will start at 5:30p.m. and supper will be at 6:00p.m. The menu will be as follows: Turkey, stuffing & cranberries, mashed potato & gravy hot vegetable, jellied salads and Christmas pudding for dessert.

Get your tickets at Reception. Cost: $15.00 Non Members welcome! PANCAKE BREAKFAST One of our newest volunteers is Doreen Beisel. Doreen moved to Moose Jaw from Swift Current in the last year.

In no time at all she offered to do some volunteer work at the Centre. Doreen volunteers her time every Wednesday afternoon in the Kitchen doing dishes, cleaning tables, etc.

Her friend Bev Wilder suggested she come down to the Centre. So she came with Bev to check it out. She fell in love with the place! Doreen volunteers her time every Wednesday afternoon in the Kitchen doing dishes, cleaning tables, etc. She also actively volunteers at banquets. When asked what she enjoys the most about the Centre, she says it is the people. She has met many friends here and everyone is so friendly. She also loves the laughter that she sees here everyone is happy to be here. Thanks to Doreen for all of the hours of volunteer work she gives to the Centre and at the banquets! We are planning to have a bake table at the Christmas Luncheon on Tuesday December 13, If you have any baked goods you would be willing to donate, we would be happy to receive them. A sign-up sheet will be left at the front desk. Thank you to all who plan to donate. Also, you will find tables of knit and crocheted items made by our members. 4 Like MINI 500 TOURNAMENT Thursday December 8th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Card Room. Everyone welcome! FALL & WINTER FASHION SHOW A HIT November 5th we held our first ever Fall & Winter Fashion Show. It proved to be a real hit with everyone. We have done a spring fashion show in past years, and they were so well attended we decided to try a fall and winter one. The ladies modelled clothing from Alia N TanJay as well as footwear from Quarks and Gemmells. All the clothing was gorgeous and versatile. Thank you to the following ladies who modelled for us: Wendy McLaren, Beverly Ruehs, Laura Schultz, Violet Feazak, Darlene Fruson, Kathy Wienhiemer, Karen Trochimchuk, Colleen Iverson, Pat Cairns, Charolette Stickle and Denise Davidson. You all rocked the catwalk! The unique thing about our fashion show is the models mingle throughout the tables giving those in attendance a chance to feel the fabric as well as ask the models how the clothing feels and moves. This year the ladies were escorted to center floor by Keith Johnson. Thank you Keith for adding a touch of elegance to the show! Also, thanks to the ladies in the kitchen (Helen, Gloria, Doreen & Jeanette for the goodies and coffee, and to Betty for the decorations!

Any changes would take place after the new year. They will be posted in advance.

That is thanks to a wonderful group of volunteers who decorate for us each year.

5 NEW FEATURE IN OUR NEWSLETTER Starting in January we will have a monthly section that will feature the names of our members who are having a birthday that month. Of course we won t be giving away anyone s age, just honouring them with a birthday greeting. Café Prices The prices in the Café are currently under review. Any changes would take place after the new year. They will be posted in advance. It s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas If you have been down to Timothy Eaton s lately, you will notice that the Centre has got that homey Christmas feeling. That is thanks to a wonderful group of volunteers who decorate for us each year. Keith, Wendy and Betty decorated the XYZ Hall, with Keith up on a ladder and desk hanging all the decorations on the ceiling. Betty, Barb Eleanor & Bev decorated the Café area, while Vi & Audrey decorated the Card Room. Thank you to Eleanor Moodie, Barb Skrill, Betty Wilder, Bev Smith, Wendy McLaren, Keith Johnson, Vi Sapergia & Audrey Andrews for their many hours of hard work spent decorating. We are blessed to have such a dedicated bunch! Our Pickleball team get together every Tuesday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and Thursday from 11:00-1:00 p.m. for a fun and friendly game of Pickleball. It is a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time! Peter Clinkard moved to Moose Jaw a few years ago and one of the first things he did was to start up a Pickleball program at MJDS. The group has grown from 2 or 3 people to as many as 12 or 13 some days. Thanks to Peter for all his hard work organizing, providing instruction and expertise and encouraging people to come out and try the game! ONE TIME FISHER, NOW BOARD MEMBER George Bastell first came to Moose Jaw & District Seniors about three years ago after talking about it with a friend.

He worked on the Rigs for many years. He was a fisher, which meant it was his job when they got stuck in a hole or twisted off, to get them out.

He used to come in every morning and the table was full of people visiting. He was told one day that he talked too much and he should move down to the end of the table to sit by Mickey.

6 ONE TIME FISHER, NOW BOARD MEMBER George Bastell first came to Moose Jaw & District Seniors about three years ago after talking about it with a friend. His friend suggested he might enjoy some of the activities. So George came in to check the place out. He has been a member ever since. George hasn t always lived in Moose Jaw. He worked on the Rigs for many years. He was a fisher, which meant it was his job when they got stuck in a hole or twisted off, to get them out. He also worked as a supervisor for a core company for a time. You can usually find George at the end of the back table by the kitchen. In fact, this is where he met his wife Mickey. He used to come in every morning and the table was full of people visiting. He was told one day that he talked too much and he should move down to the end of the table to sit by Mickey. That is when he met her, and the rest is history. George loves the dances and playing shuffleboard. He enjoys helping Sandy out with the courts. This past year George joined the Board of Directors. Thanks to George for all of the time he volunteers. He is always willing to help! SHE MAY BE SMALL BUT HER CONTRIBUTIONS ARE HUGE! It was a sad day recently when Alice Small came to my door to tell me that she would be resigning from her volunteer position as a fitness instructor.

Through the years she slowly moved up each floor and March 31, 1986 when the Eaton s store closed it s door she was working on the top floor. She remembers the date well.

7 SHE MAY BE SMALL BUT HER CONTRIBUTIONS ARE HUGE! It was a sad day recently when Alice Small came to my door to tell me that she would be resigning from her volunteer position as a fitness instructor. Alice has lead a fitness program at the Centre for well over 20 years. Alice started work at Eaton s in Moose Jaw in 1955 and was responsible for the bargain basement. Through the years she slowly moved up each floor and March 31, 1986 when the Eaton s store closed it s door she was working on the top floor. She remembers the date well. That very date, she walked over to St. Andrews and joined XYZ where she eventually took over the fitness classes. When XYZ moved to the Moose Jaw & District Seniors, Alice moved with them. She has continued to provide fitness programs here since that day. Besides doing fitness classes, she has provided aqua fit classes in many pools around Moose Jaw including at the Harwood Hotel, Grant Hall, Kinsmen Pool, the Spa and up until three years ago when they tore down the pool, she was doing aqua fit classes at the pool at Prairie Oasis. Alice is an avid knitter and crochet-er. She knits anything and everything but has slowed down the last few years. She speaks proudly of some of the items she has done for people and organizations. One of her special creations was an afghan she made for the legion. It was white with beautiful red poppies with the black centers and green leaves against the white background. She donated it to the legion to raffle several years ago. She said it was funny that she never heard anything from them until just recently when they called to ask if she wanted the afghan back, because if she didn t, they would like to raffle it! She doesn t know if they didn t raffle it years ago when she donated it, or if the person who won donated it back, but regardless they are raffling it off again. We will miss Alice at Fitness classes on Mondays, but she assures me she will stop in regularly to visit. She also enjoys playing Nickel Bingo on Fridays and coming to the special events so she will still be around lots. Thank you Alice for your many years of service and helping many people over the years to live a healthy lifestyle. The gift you have shared with us for the last 30 years is one that we will always cherish! Elaine Parsons will be doing the fitness classes on Monday afternoons from 1-3.
