2 WANTED! CAN YOU HELP? - URGENT We need a volunteer to take the minutes for our next BSG meeting on Tuesday September 11 as our secretary is unavailable. Meeting starts at 7.30pm and finishes about 9pm (waffling on strictly not permitted!) All you need is a laptop (or pen and paper) to take notes and a bit of time to edit them afterwards. If you can do it please contact bsgsecretary@ths.community Thanks in advance! Regional Tour The Regional tour to Tasmania was an absolute success! The students all had some great opportunities to perform and to see some amazing parts of Tassie. Many thanks to the tour committee for pulling together such a great tour. The Turramurra High School Facebook page has more photos! There will also be an opportunity for the families of the tour students to hear them play. Date in the events calendar! Page 2 of 6

3 THS International Band Tour 2019 Turramurra High School bands will be offering an International Tour at the end of next year, to the USA. The itinerary was planned around the 73rd Annual Chicago Midwest Clinic, a world-renowned big band festival. The tour will visit Washington DC, New York City and Chicago, and activities will include band workshops, performances, concerts and sightseeing, all in the context of the fun of the tour! Tour dates will be December 8-22, We estimate that total cost per head will be between $6500-$7000. Further information and expression of interest forms will be published before the end of term 3, but now is the time to start thinking about whether this is something for you. We will be looking for more volunteers to help organise the tour, so please let one of the band committee know if you are interested. Page 3 of 6

4 A reminder about availability Please note that if you are going to be away for a performance or competition you are obliged to give as much notice as possible - preferably four weeks - via to your band manager. Music pieces for performances are chosen by the band conductor based on the number of instruments in each section, so if a number of students in a particular section are suddenly unavailable there's a significant impact on the remainder of the band, particularly that section, and the quality of the performance. Please show respect to your fellow band members and the conductor and advise well in advance if you are not going to be able to participate in any performance or rehearsal. Thank you. Masterclass Please see below and attached information on the Masterclass! All kids, not just Sax players are encouraged to attend! We need you! Our presidents, vice president and secretary will all be completing their terms on the BSG committee this year. If you are interested in taking on one of these rewarding positions and would like to find out more, please either the president or secretary through our contact list at the end of these notes.
